Sachin Tendulkar puts full stop to 'India win when Jasprit Bumrah doesn't play' narrative: ‘People are discussing…'
The premier pacer has been put under the scanner for picking and choosing matches on the crucial tour. His impact on the matches he played is also making things worse for him.
Bumrah made a brilliant start to the series by taking a five-wicket haul in the first innings at Headingley. However, he couldn't make the same impact in the second innings and went wicketless as India tried—unsuccessfully—to defend a target of 371. At Lord's, Bumrah added his name to the honours board with another five-wicket haul in the first innings. But in the second innings, his influence waned, picking up just two wickets as India slipped to another defeat.
Tendulkar also highlighted Bumrah's two five-wicket hauls in the series and dismissed the narrative that India lose whenever he plays, calling it nothing more than a coincidence.
'Bumrah started off really well, got five wickets in the (first innings of the) first Test. He did not play the second Test, but (played in) the third and the fourth. Again, in (one of) those two Tests, he got (a) five wickets (haul),' Tendulkar said in his video analysis of the series on 'Reddit'.
'Of three Test that he played, he picked up five wickets twice. I know that people are discussing a number of things, that we won those Tests in which he did not play. To me, that is just a coincidence," he added.
'Quality of Bumrah is exceptional'
The batting great further heaped massive praise on Bumrah and said he has been the top performer for India over the years and shown consistency across the formats.
"The quality of Bumrah is exceptional. What he has been able to do is just unbelievable so far. He has been a consistent performer without any doubt (and) I would put him right at the top with anyone else,' he added.

India pacer Jasprit Bumrah 's workload became a huge a topic of discussion during the recently-concluded five-match Test series against England, which ended in a 2-2 draw earlier this month. While it was pre-decided that Bumrah will play only three matches during the tour, calls were made to include him in the playing XI for the fifth and final Test with India trailing 1-2 before the game at The Oval. In his absence, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna rose to the occasion, bagging five and four wickets respectively in the second innings as India won the match by six runs to draw the series. Interestingly, India won both the games in England in which Bumrah was rested. Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan is the latest to weigh in on the workload debate, but didn't mention Bumrah's name directly. While Irfan acknowledged that fast bowling comes with a set of challenges, he also insisted that once a player gets out on the field, the key is to give their 100 per cent out there. "I believe that technology and recovery should go hand in hand. You should also listen to your body. But once you step onto the field, workload shouldn't be a consideration anymore. Then it's just a battle. One team against another. You have to win. It's a battle, and your only focus should be on winning by any means," Pathan said during a chat on Lallantop. "Recovery and field technology are fine. But once you step in, you're wearing the Indian jersey. After that, don't look back. You can't say, 'I'll just bowl four overs' or 'I'll bowl three overs'. People don't just say this, they do it. That's how it works these days," he added. Irfan re-iterated that while his comments weren't directed towards a single player, he gave the example of Siraj, whose workload isn't taken too seriously. "I'm talking about everyone, not just one player. Everyone. Siraj, on the last day of the last Test, was bowling at 145 km/h. He has a workload too, right? This applies to everyone. But once you step in, you give it your all," Pathan highlighted. Siraj bowled tirelessly in the series, rolling his arm for 109 overs. Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the second Test due to workload management, has bowled 86.4 overs, Prasidh Krishna 62 overs in two games and Akash Deep 72.1 overs in two games.

Messi's teammates Emiliano Martinez, who helped lift the 2022 FIFA World Cup for Argentina, and Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho had both arrived in India last year for similar events organised by Dutta. As per the promoter, asking them to get a word in edgeways with Messi was the only way. 'The football world is a small circle. When I got Emi Martinez and Ronaldinho to Kolkata, I told them that I am trying to bring Messi to India and your review will matter,' he explained to the Indian Express. The renamed trophy was contested for the first time in July-August this year, with the series ending in a 2-2 draw. Ghavri questioned how such a move was cleared in the first place and labelled it a disrespect to the memory of the Nawab of Pataudi, whose name had been synonymous with the contest for decades. The Pataudi Trophy was renamed to Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy before the start of the series in June(PTI) 'That is very wrong. Number one, the Australia-West Indies series is always called the Frank Worrell Trophy. The India-Australia Trophy is always called the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. If its name changed, Gavaskar poore India ko hila ke rakh dega (Gavaskar will shake the whole of India),' Ghavri told Vicky Lalwani on the latter's YouTube channel. Ghavri squarely held the BCCI responsible for failing to oppose it. He questioned how the board could stay silent when the Pataudi Trophy's name was removed. Ghavri criticising Tendulkar While Sachin Tendulkar did object to the decision at first, Ghavri was unimpressed with the cricketing great for not being firm enough on his stand. 'In the same context, when it came to Sachin Tendulkar, that this trophy would be changed, and this trophy would be named after you and Anderson, Sachin should've said no. Objection is different,' said the former all-rounder, who represented India in 39 Tests. 'In the first place, you should've put your foot down and should've said 'No, I don't want to use my name because Tiger Pataudi's name is already there. He's a legend of Indian cricket. If you want to give medals, use our name. Trophy's name should remain the same'. 'First of all, this question should've never been raised. You're degrading somebody of a great stature.' The first Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy saw an excellent display of cricket from both sides, with Shubman Gill, leading in his maiden series, showcasing incredible form to smash 754 runs in five Tests, while Mohammed Siraj leading the pace attack with a series high 23 wickets in nine innings.
