Carer faces manslaughter charges over alleged ‘intentional' crash killing elderly Gympie siblings
A carer accused of deliberately crashing a car to kill his elderly passengers will remain in custody after being charged with manslaughter.
Stuart Daryl Gray, 61, faces two counts over the deaths of his client, Clive Millers, 83, and Clive's sister, Norma Dutton, 85, who both died at the scene of the crash in Brooloo, Queensland, on Monday.
The single-vehicle crash occurred just before 2 p.m., when the Suzuki Kizashi driven by Gray slammed head-on into a tree at the intersection of Callemonda Road and Mary Valley Road in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, about 60 km northwest of Nambour.
Acting Superintendent Brad Inskip confirmed that the two victims were related and that Gray was employed as their carer.
Police allege the crash was intentional.
Norma's neighbour, Lee Hurren, said she was a popular Gympie local.
'Very active for an 85 year old.
'She does her mowing twice a week of her yard, plus the gardening.
'Active in the social areas of Gympie.'
Gray remains under police guard in hospital after suffering serious injuries in the crash and was mentioned in Gympie Magistrates Court on Thursday.
He did not apply for bail.
Police are continuing their investigation and urging anyone with information to come forward.

Elderly siblings allegedly deliberately killed by carer driving into tree
Elderly siblings Norma Diana Dutton, 85, and Clive William Millers, 83, have been identified as the victims of a double fatal crash on the Sunshine Coast hinterland earlier this week. Both were residents of the Gympie region and are being mourned by their extended family, friends and neighbours. The pair died when the car they were passengers in ploughed into a tree at the intersection of Callemonda Road and Mary Valley Road at Brooloo on Monday afternoon. Police have charged driver and carer Stuart Daryl Gray, 61, with two counts of manslaughter. Mr Gray sustained leg injuries in the crash and was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital where he remains under police guard. His matter is listed for mention in the Gympie Magistrates Court later this week. Speaking on Tuesday, Acting Superintendent Brad Inskip said investigations into the crash were continuing. He said he was unable to speculate on the motive and it would be part of the investigation. Acting Superintendent Inskip told reporters Mr Gray had been employed in a "professional" capacity as a carer. Court documents listed him as a company director. Police are urging anyone with information or dash cam footage to contact them. Ms Dutton's neighbours Jennifer and Lee Hurren said the 85-year-old had been the best kind of neighbour to have. Mr Hurren said he could not believe it when he heard Ms Dutton had died. "No, that's not right," he said was his first reaction. "For a person like that. She's adorable, very loving, [a] very caring person and very active." Both recalled how active in the community she had been. A close friend of the family said Mr Millers, who lived in Kandanga, worked at a sawmill for 10 years in the town before spending the rest of his working life on family pineapple farms.

Man charged with manslaughter after car crashes into tree and kills two elderly people at Brooloo, west of the Sunshine Coast
Police have charged a man with manslaughter after two elderly people died in a car crash near the Sunshine Coast. Officers were called to Callemonda Road and Mary Valley Road at Brooloo about 2pm on Monday, following reports a Suzuki Kizashi allegedly crashed into a tree. An 83-year-old Kandanga man and an 85-year-old Gympie woman who were in the car at the time of the accident were declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as a 61-year-old man who has since been charged with two counts of manslaughter. He currently remains under guard in Sunshine Coast University Hospital with serious injuries. The 61-year-old is also expected to appear in Gympie Magistrates Court by way of bedside hearing on Tuesday. Police appealed for anyone with dash cam footage or other information to come forward.
