Coca-Cola confirms a cane-sugar version of its trademark soda will be sold in US

Coca-Cola said on Tuesday it will add a cane-sugar version of its trademark cola to its US line-up this fall, confirming a recent announcement by US President Donald Trump.
Trump said in a
social media post last week that Coca-Cola had agreed to use real cane sugar in its flagship product in the US, which has been sweetened with high fructose corn syrup since the 1980s. Coke did not immediately confirm the change, but promised new offerings soon.
On Tuesday, Coca-Cola Chairman and CEO James Quincey said Coke will expand its product range 'to reflect consumer interest in differentiated experiences'.
'We appreciate the president's enthusiasm for our Coca-Cola brand,' Quincey said in a conference call with investors on Tuesday. 'We are definitely looking to use the whole toolkitkit of available sweetening options.'
Quincey noted that Coca-Cola uses cane sugar in some other US drinks, such as its Simply brand lemonade and Honest Tea. Coca-Cola has also sold Mexican Coke, which is made with cane sugar, in the US since 2005.
'We're always looking for opportunities to innovate and see whether there's an intersection of new ideas and where consumer preferences are evolving,' Quincey said. 'It's a good sign that the industry, including ourselves, is trying lots of different things.'

Li had allegedly conspired with two then senior executives, Che Hanshu and Zhang Yaohui, to defraud shareholders and the Hong Kong stock exchange, by inflating the profit and assets of the developers through fraudulent transactions, according to a statement from ICAC. Warrants for the trio were issued in February 2011 by a magistrate, but by that time they had already left Hong Kong, ICAC said. Li, Che and Zhang had conspired with the company's secretary and financial controller to defraud shareholders between November 2003 and July 2007, it added. Li, 59, faces two common law charges of conspiracy to defraud. He is scheduled to appear at Eastern Magistrates' Courts for a mention hearing on Wednesday. For all the continued dizzying headlines about global tariffs and strategic pauses, one thing remains true: the United States is deploying trade policy not just as economic leverage but as a tool of diplomacy and power. The August 1 deadline for countries, including several in Asia, to negotiate a trade deal or face steep tariffs is no exception. Markets throughout Asia – a region home to some of the most export-reliant economies in the world – are in the crosshairs of US President Donald Trump's 'America first' doctrine. The topic was top of mind at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations regional forum in Kuala Lumpur earlier this month. During the first Trump administration, China faced tariffs that affected a broad range of industries. These continued through the subsequent Biden administration and became embedded in business processes, pricing and distribution. Things are different this time, and the stakes – and the tariffs – are much higher. Trump's constant policy changes related to tariffs offer little relief, and his administration continues to stoke great uncertainty and frustration in global markets and in company boardrooms. For nations whose prosperity depends on steady access to global markets – especially in automobiles, agriculture, manufacturing, textiles and fisheries – tariffs have made conducting business persistently unpredictable. Chinese official media reported details of a crackdown on a money-laundering operation involving cryptocurrencies , shedding light on the mainland's underground crypto landscape and increased efforts by authorities to seize crypto assets. According to a report last week by the People's Daily, which cited the Beijing Haidian People's Procuratorate's ruling, a former executive surnamed Feng embezzled 140 million yuan (US$19.5 million) from his employer, a tech firm. He then used eight overseas virtual currency trading platforms to convert the funds into bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Feng and his accomplices employed a so-called coin mixing strategy to obscure the origin of their money, converted portions of their cryptocurrencies back into yuan, and then transferred the funds into their mainland bank accounts. During the investigation, prosecutor Li Tao from the hi-tech crime division of the Haidian People's Procuratorate, reconstructed the entire process of how the funds were embezzled, transferred, laundered, and divided to build charges against Feng and his associates, according to the report. Feng was ordered to surrender 90 'hidden' bitcoin valued at over US$11 million based on current prices. He was convicted and sentenced to more than 14 years in prison. The case highlighted the rising use of cryptocurrencies for money laundering in China, where authorities maintain a stringent ban on crypto trading and prohibit its banking system from engaging with these virtual assets.
