Memorandum of Understanding Between the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions and Adaleh Center to Strengthen Labor Rights Protection

The General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU) and the Adaleh Center for Human Rights Studies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening the protection of workers' rights—whether Jordanian or migrant—and unifying efforts to ensure a decent and fair working environment for all. اضافة اعلان This memorandum stems from a shared belief that workers deserve equal opportunities and safe working conditions, and that cooperation between trade unions and civil society organizations represents a powerful force in defending human rights within the Jordanian labor market. Khaled Al-Fanatsah, President of the GFJTU, stated: 'Signing this memorandum with Adaleh Center is not merely symbolic—it reflects our joint will to build a genuine partnership that promotes a decent working environment for every worker. We believe that protecting workers—whether Jordanians or migrants—starts with facilitating their access to justice and providing them with legal support, which this memorandum aims to achieve. We also view this partnership as an opportunity to build the capacities of unionists and workers, and to launch advocacy campaigns that contribute to the development of labor policies and legislation, in a way that achieves social justice. This step is, above all, an investment in people and in the dignity of work, which we consider the essence of sustainable development.' On his part, Asim Rababa'a, CEO of the Adaleh Center for Human Rights Studies, affirmed: 'We are proud of this partnership with the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions because it opens up practical avenues to enhance access to justice for all workers—Jordanian and migrant alike—through direct legal support and case follow-up. We believe that social justice can only be achieved through collaboration between trade unions and civil society organizations. This memorandum will lead to field research, training, capacity building, and joint advocacy initiatives that contribute to improving the working environment in Jordan. What unites us is a shared commitment to every worker's right to dignity, protection, and justice.' Areas of Cooperation Include: Legal Support & Referral: Receiving labor-related cases, particularly those involving migrant workers and non-unionized workers, and providing appropriate legal advice and support. Training & Capacity Building: Organizing workshops and training sessions for unionists, workers, and employer representatives. Research & Studies: Conducting field and analytical studies to better understand the labor landscape in Jordan and propose practical solutions. Advocacy & Policy Influence: Launching joint campaigns to influence labor policies and legislation. Joint Project Development: Submitting initiatives and projects to donors in support of workers' rights and to strengthen the partnership between both parties. Through this collaboration, both parties affirm that workers' rights are not merely a union issue, but a human and societal cause, and that upholding these rights is the foundation for any fair and sustainable development in Jordan.

Al-Hayari: JD 100 Monthly Allocated for Each Conscriptee During National Service - Jordan News

Government Communications Minister and official spokesperson Mohammad Al-Momani confirmed that, under the guidance of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, the government has been working for nearly a year with the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army to launch the National Service program. This program represents a key step in realizing the Crown Prince's vision of investing in the most important and largest segment of Jordanian society: the youth. اضافة اعلان During the press conference, Al-Momani explained that the Prime Minister has been following the program's details for about a year and has received periodic briefings from a committee chaired by the Minister of Interior. He added that the necessary resources for preparation will be allocated from this year's emergency expenditures, as well as the 2026 budget. Al-Momani said that the National Service program aims to strengthen Jordanian national identity, develop youth physically, intellectually, and culturally, instill discipline and work values, and will include two tracks: a military track forming the majority of the program, and a theoretical knowledge track, under the direct supervision of the Jordanian Armed Forces. He added that the next batch of conscripts will be the 54th, starting with 6,000 male Jordanians born in 2007 who will reach 18 years of age by January 1, 2026. They will be divided into three phases of 2,000 young men each, with plans to gradually increase the number to 10,000 conscripts. Al-Momani explained that selection will be conducted electronically through a neutral statistical lottery from a database including all Jordanian males born in 2007, taking into account population distribution across governorates, with 300 conscripts per governorate except Amman (1,500), Zarqa (900), and Irbid (900). He clarified that the program accommodates the needs of students and workers, such as counting service time toward university study hours, allowing postponements in exceptional cases, and exemptions for only children or those medically unfit, as stipulated by law. Meanwhile, Brigadier General Mustafa Al-Hayari, official spokesperson of the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army, confirmed that the Armed Forces will implement the National Service program according to the highest training and logistical standards at the Khow and Shweir camps, which are fully equipped for training, accommodation, and healthcare, following directives from the Crown Prince. Al-Hayari added that JD 100 per month will be allocated to each conscriptee during service. Summons will be conducted according to the conscription system through the Ministry of Interior and police directorates in the Public Security Directorate, as well as via the 'Sanad' app and SMS messages. He also noted that a dedicated online platform for inquiries about National Service will be launched after the completion of legal amendments and constitutional procedures. Al-Hayari emphasized that conscripts who fail to report for service will face penalties under the National Service and Reserve Service Law, including imprisonment for a minimum of three months and a maximum of one year, after which they will be required to serve.
