Lauren James' stoppage-time winner ensures WSL leaders Chelsea beat Everton
Lauren James grabbed a stoppage-time winner as Chelsea battled from a goal down to beat Everton 2-1 at Kingsmeadow and maintain their seven-point lead at the top of the Women's Super League.
The visitors threatened to cause an upset when Kelly Gago burst down the left wing in the 51st minute and unleashed a fine effort into the top corner against the run of play.
But Sonia Bompastor 's side rallied with Mayra Ramirez equalising just after the hour mark in what was the leaders' first real chance of note.
Everton looked good value for a point until the third minute of added time when James unleashed a long-range effort with her left foot that clipped the post and found the back of the net.
Elsewhere, Chloe Kelly marked her return to Arsenal by featuring in a crushing 5-0 win over north London rivals Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium.
Lionesses winger Kelly, who rejoined her first club on loan in January, came off the bench as Renee Slegers' team cruised to victory in front of over 56,000 fans.
Clare Hunt's 15th-minute own goal set the Gunners on their way and Mariona Caldentey added a second 10 minutes before half-time.
Frida Maanum and Alessia Russo doubled the hosts' lead before the hour mark and Emily Fox rounded off a big win in style with a spectacular fifth in the final minute.
Elisabeth Terland bagged a brace as Manchester United beat bottom club Crystal Palace 3-1 to seal their sixth straight win.
Terland's early opener was cancelled out by a composed finish from Mille Gejl for the struggling Eagles, but United moved up a gear after the break with a second for Terland before Grace Clinton confirmed the points with a brave header.

David Moyes' dad reveals pride at his son's OBE that comes on the back of his own MBE – and an Icelandic knighthood

Moyes senior was a guest of the Icelandic FA at last weekend's Hampden friendly against Scotland, where he was given another presentation salver by the country grateful for his help in establishing them as a footballing nation. Moyes snr. may be 89 years old but he has a hectic lifestyle that would exhaust a man half his age. In the past few weeks he's been at Everton's final match at Goodison Park against Southampton. Days later he was down south again to a Park Lane hotel to see son David - already a three-time Manager of the Year - inducted into the League Managers' Association's elite 1000-game Club. That was followed by a family trip to Windsor Castle last week where Everton boss Moyes was presented with an O.B.E. for services to football. Moyes senior told Sunsport: 'Everywhere I've gone recently, I was getting a glass of champagne stuck in my hand. 'I don't even like the stuff. I'd rather have a whisky! 'The trip down for David to get his OBE was a proud moment. 'You only get four invitations and he obviously took his wife Pamela and his children David and Lauren. 'Back when I got mine, you were lined up to receive your honour in alphabetical order. I had Lulu in front of me and Michael Parkinson behind me!' He's also the only non-Icelander to be given an FA gold medal - normally reserved for players who have reached 50 caps. Moyes worked at juvenile outfit Drumchapel Amateurs for 29 years, where his links with Iceland were forged. He said: 'Every time I see Sir Alex Ferguson we end up talking about Drumchapel because he started out there. 'We played in a tournament in Austria in the early 60s and there was an Icelandic team there. 'We invited them to Scotland and they sailed from Reykjavik to Leith. 'I used to go across a lot and sent coaches and players. 'The Icelandic FA were kind enough to put me forward for a Knight of the Falcon - their knighthood - for services to football in Iceland in 1989. 'When I went over for the ceremony to receive it there were banners saying, 'Welcome Sir David'! 'I knew all the best Icelandic players. 'They came from an amazing street in the town of Akranes. 'There were six houses in the street. The brothers lived in one, Siggi Jonsson's family lived in another. He went on to play for Sheffield Wednesday and is regarded as one of the best Icelandic players of all time. 'Siggi played for Rangers in a youth tournament in Dusseldorf. Barcelona beat Rangers in the final but Siggi was voted Player of the Tournament - and wouldn't accept it because Rangers hadn't won! 'And further along the street in Akranes was where Petur Petursson's family lived. Petur played in Rangers' youth system but signed for Feyenoord instead.' Moyes is now looking forward to Drumchapel Amateurs' 75th anniversary celebrations this October and more trips to watch his son's side in action. He said: 'I go all over to see his teams, I always have. Even when he was in Spain at Real Sociedad I went over regularly. 'When West Ham reached the Europa Conference League Final in 2023 they played 15 ties and I only missed one of them - the first one, against Viborg in Denmark. 'Football keeps me active - on one trip down to London recently I walked 10.2 miles in one day. 'I've still lots of referees to shout at and loads of games to go to!' Enzo Maresca told harsh reality of Chelsea transfer pursuit and total cost
Chelsea have been told to prepare to spend more than expected if they want to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, who is also being tracked by Manchester United Chelsea legend Florent Malouda has warned that the club could end up paying a hefty sum for Hugo Ekitike. The west London club are interested in the striker, who has shone at Eintracht Frankfurt. In a quick move to rejuvenate their attack, Chelsea have already signed Liam Delap after forking out £30million to activate his Ipswich Town release clause. With plans to pit the young striker against Nicolas Jackson, Chelsea also remain interested in Ekitike but any deal will be expensive for Enzo Maresca's side. After notching up an impressive tally of 22 goals and 12 assists across all competitions this season, the French forward's price tag could rise above £100m. That's according to Chelsea icon Malouda, who has admitted that Ekitike has what it takes to succeed at Stamford Bridge. Despite welcoming Delap aboard, Chelsea remain interested in Ekitike, with the German club placing an £85m price tag on their star striker, as per While Chelsea are unlikely to meet Frankfurt's valuation, Malouda wouldn't be shocked if Ekitike's price climbed even higher. "Hugo Ekitike would be a good option for Chelsea because, even though he didn't play much for PSG, he has experience of competitive squads," Malouda said to bet365. "He has potential to score 20-plus goals in the Premier League. It just comes down to price. When German clubs see Chelsea, the price tag will be £100million plus. It's a question of price." Chelsea hold the 22-year-old forward in high regard but are not expected to cough up the massive £85m asking price set by Frankfurt, despite other clubs monitoring the striker. Ekitike has also reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United. However, the Bundesliga outfit will not mind clubs being put off by Ekitike's price tag. Frankfurt achieved Champions League qualification after finishing third this season and are not in a rush to sell their prize asset. Eintracht Frankfurt's CEO Markus Krosche was clear regarding the potential sale of Ekitike. "If the price isn't right, then he'll just stay with us. We don't have to sell Hugo," he said. Having started off at Reims, Ekitike caught the eye and secured a move to PSG but struggled for game time. A loan to Frankfurt in February 2024 saw his fortunes change for the better. Chelsea's interest in Ekitike is not thought to harm Jackson's future at the club. The 23-year-old forward scored 13 goals across his second season at Stamford Bridge. On the other hand, Christopher Nkunku, once on the radar of United and Bayern Munich, is likely to leave this summer. Despite his future potentially being elsewhere, Chelsea have named the forward in their Club World Cup squad.
