Hot, dry weather persists in Utah into next week
SALT LAKE CITY () – Happy Thursday, Utah! Temperatures drop a few degrees today, but it'll still be toasty!
The bottom line? Hot, dry weather persists into next week.
Daytime highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s, and upper 90s to low 100s for warm spots in southern and eastern Utah. Dry conditions are expected for today, but we can't rule out a shower or dry thunderstorm in the northern mountains and the West Desert.
Dry thunderstorms can bring periods of gusty, erratic winds and cloud-to-ground lightning. Given the dry, hot, windy conditions and dry vegetation, there's a decent chance that we see an elevated fire risk.
There's no end to the heat and not much moisture for the foreseeable future. On Friday, temperatures return to the mid-90s for most Utahns and triple-digits again for St. George. 90s and 100s are expected to hold on through the weekend and into the beginning of next week.
A prominent high-pressure ridge is in place, which is keeping us hot and acting as a storm block. Given the hot, dry weather over the next week, it's important to stay mindful of sparks, outdoor fires, dragging chains, or anything else that could spark up a flame.

Bristol to repaint 4th of July parade route lines red, white and blue
BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — The town of Bristol is getting ready for the historic Fourth of July parade that is just three weeks away. The red, white, and blue stripes that mark the parade route on Hope and High streets will be repainted next week. They get repainted every year since it's water-based paint, unlike traditional street paint. Bristol police said temporary parking restrictions will be in place on Hope Street between Washington and Union streets starting Sunday and continuing through Monday, June 23. Restrictions will be in effect nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Hope Street is the only state highway in the country that is legally allowed to have patriotic tri-colored stripes all year round. Bristol, home of America's Oldest Continuous Fourth of July Celebration, doesn't observe the holiday on just one single day. The celebration officially starts on Flag Day, June 14. Over the next few weeks, the town will have free outdoor concerts, a firefighters' muster, the Fourth of July Ball, a carnival, fireworks and many other events. The celebration ends on July 4 with the Military, Civic and Firemen's Parade, which draws about 200,000 people to a town of roughly 22,000 people. Drying out Father's Day after showers early Saturday
Happy Friday, friends! We have a chilly, crisp, yet refreshing start to our day. Temperatures are in the 40s/50s alongside clearing skies and northwest breezes of 5 to 15 mph. Roadways may be a little damp here and there but overall, no big travel hazards are expected for your morning drive outside of a patch or two of fog. Highs will climb into the upper 60s to near 70 this afternoon which is a bit below average for this time of year. Northwest winds will persist along with partly sunny skies. However, increasing clouds are likely overnight into Saturday morning. Lows will dip into the mid 50s by daybreak. Scattered showers and embedded downpours will drive in from west to east early Saturday morning. The forecast will begin to improve after lunchtime with continued mostly cloudy skies and drier slots of weather. Highs will manage the upper 60s before dropping back into the mid 50s overnight into Sunday morning. Father's Day will feature partly cloudy to partly sunny skies. The dry weather will help us out after collecting 0.25 to 0.5 inch of rain through the first half of the weekend. Warm, humid pattern holds steady ahead of Father's Day Weekend
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Good Friday morning! We're starting off with another cloudy and humid morning, with temperatures dipping into the low 70s. Light fog may once again settle in across parts of the region following some overnight showers. By midday, temperatures will climb into the mid-80s, with some areas pushing toward 90° by late afternoon and early evening. Isolated showers or a rumble of thunder remain possible later in the day, though most areas should stay dry. Looking ahead to Father's Day Weekend: We're watching a better chance for scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms. A surge of Gulf moisture combined with a passing shortwave will help spark activity through the day. Despite the rain chances, highs will remain seasonable, hovering around 90°. Next week brings a shift: The Bermuda High begins to build in across the Southeast and East Coast. This will keep daily chances for pop-up afternoon showers and storms in play.
