Rafizi to get stern warning over ‘cai' list ahead of PKR polls
PKR election committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the complaint against Rafizi Ramli will be referred to the party's disciplinary committee.
PETALING JAYA : PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli will only receive a 'stern' warning from the party's central election committee for openly announcing his preferred lineup of candidates ahead of the internal elections tomorrow.
Election committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa said Rafizi's move to issue 'cai' (list of preferred candidates) violated the party's 2025 election guidelines, Berita Harian reported.
'We have made it clear at the central leadership council level that we would take action on any complaints,' Zaliha was quoted as saying at a media briefing today ahead of the PKR national congress in Johor Bahru.
'For now, the election committee will issue a stern warning to those involved. The complaint will then be referred to the party's disciplinary committee,' she said.
Rafizi had released a Facebook post naming his preferred candidates for the four slots of vice-presidents out of a total of 12 contenders. His picks were Chang Lih Kang, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Aminuddin Harun and G Manivanan.
While limited digital promotion of 'cai' lists is permitted under the current rules, Zaliha said Rafizi's 'public and aggressive' announcement on Facebook amounted to group campaigning, which is strictly prohibited.
She also ordered the removal of campaign banners found near polling centres in Johor Bahru.
'We inspected the congress venue and found several banners at voting areas and we have ordered their removal.
'Candidates have also been instructed to take down any campaign materials from polling areas,' she said.
The party's central leadership committee elections are set to take place tomorrow.

M'sia-Russia ties to deepen with upcoming joint meeting, says Zambry
KUALA LUMPUR: Bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Russia will be strengthened through the two countries' Joint Commission Meeting on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation (JC-ESTC) to be held in Malaysia this year, says Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir (pic) . The Higher Education Minister said the meeting in November would, among other things, discuss proposals to expand scholarship programmes and developments in various initiatives under the JC-ESTC. "Special focus will also be given to preparations for the Malaysia-Russia Mineral Resources Dialogue and the Higher Education Forum, two key platforms to be held concurrently with the JC-ESTC Meeting. "These events are expected to bring together industry leaders, academics and researchers from both countries to enhance bilateral cooperation,' he said in a Facebook statement on Wednesday (June 4). ALSO READ: Malaysia and Russia to expand cooperation in science, higher education The meeting follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visit to Russia last month, during which he tasked several ministries, including Higher Education, with following up. Zambry said the plans were discussed during a courtesy call by Russian Ambassador to Malaysia Naiyl Latypov on Tuesday (June 3) evening. "I believe that cooperation between Malaysia and Russia will continue to be explored to build more networks across various fields, thereby creating greater opportunities and successes for the people of both nations. "The strong commitment shown by the Russian government, which also recognises Malaysia's education system as one of the best hubs in the region, underscores the need for local institutions of higher learning to continuously improve their performance,' Zambry added. – Bernama

Loke: VEP enforcement for Singapore vehicles to start July 1, JPJ to issue summonses
PUTRAJAYA, June 4 — The Vehicle Entry Permit system for Singaporean vehicles entering Malaysian borders will take full effect starting July 1, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced today. The VEP, introduced on October 1 last year, was initially enforced in phases, starting with reminder notices to Singapore-registered vehicle owners who had yet to register for the permit. '[Starting July 1] the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will issue summonses to foreign vehicle owners who have not registered or activated their VEP,' Loke said. Currently, motorcycles are temporarily exempt from the VEP requirement, though the government plans to make it mandatory in the future. To note, Malaysian vehicles do not require a VEP. Vietnam axes two-child limit amid population concerns
HANOI, June 4 — Vietnam has scrapped a long-standing policy of limiting families to two children, state media said Wednesday, as the communist-run country contends with a declining birth rate. The decision on the number of children is now a decision for each individual couple, Vietnam News Agency said. The country has experienced 'historically' low birth rates during the last three years, with the total fertility rate dropping to just 1.91 children per woman last year, below replacement level, the ministry of health said this year. The decline in birth rates was from 2.11 children per woman in 2021, down to 2.01 in 2022 and 1.96 in 2023. Tran Minh Huong, a 22-year-old office worker, told AFP that the government regulation mattered little to her as she had no plans to have children. 'Even though I am an Asian, with social norms that say women need to get married and have kids, it's too costly to raise a child.' — AFP
