Conflict frontman Colin Jerwood dies aged 63 after 'short illness'
Formed in Eltham, South London, in 1981, the band's first release was 1982's The House That Man Built.
Two years later they set up Mortarhate Records label, which released their own records, as well as ones from other bands including Hagar the Womb, Icons of Filth, Lost Cherrees, The Apostles, and Stalag 17.
Since they started out, Conflict have been known for being outspoken regarding issues such as anarchism, animal rights, and the anti-war movement.
In the 1980s several of their gigs were followed by riots and disturbances.
Last year the band released the album Live in Dublin, their first new music in over 20 years. It was followed by This Much Remains, which was released last month.
However, the band has now announced the death of its lead vocalist Jerwood, who died after a 'short illness'.
'As you can imagine we are struggling to find the words to describe how sad and upset we feel upon hearing of the loss of our band member and dear friend Colin,' the statement began.
'We extend our deepest condolences to James, Georgia and the rest of Colin's family and friends. We ask that you respect their wishes and understand that we are all currently grieving a great loss. Thank you. Gav, Fi, Fran and Matt.'
His family also said that they shared the news 'with a heavy heart'.
'We know for his supporters that this is difficult news to hear,' they said.
Jerwood's family then shared details of an online memorial page (https://colinjerwood.muchloved.com/) and said fans could 'donate to charities in his memory'.
'We appreciate all your support for Colin and Conflict over the years,' they added.
They asked fans not to attend the funeral, but said they would be 'reading through any comments on the memorial page and your presence will be felt'.
Paying tribute, UK organisation Unite Against Fascism also wrote: 'Many anti fascists will be sad to hear that Conflict's Colin Jerwood has died. His Eltham roots & the poisonous racism at times locally meant he backed a/fascists for many a year & when it really mattered.' More Trending
Meanwhile Cherry Red Records said he was 'sharp, driven, and always pushing forward' and had 'left a mark on punk music that won't be forgotten'.
Before his death, Jerwood had been working on a memoir to document 'conflict, the movement, and me'.
Conflict's original line-up included Jerwood, Francisco 'Paco' Carreno, John, Steve, Pauline, and Paul, also known as Nihilistic Nobody'.
Former drummer Carreno died aged 49 in 2015.

Controversial star Lil Tay has prompted fierce backlash after revealing her staggering OnlyFans earnings with her 5.7 million Instagram followers - just hours after turning 18. The controversial influencer wasted no time launching an OnlyFans account - dropping the link just after midnight on her landmark birthday. She claimed the content was taken at exactly 12.01am, calling it 'freshly 18' content and adding in her bio: 'Please don't tell my mom.' Lil Tay promised fans glimpses of her 'birthday suits' and, within just two hours of joining the adult content platform, she had 100,000 subscribers. By the third hour, she had raked in over $1 million, posting a screenshot of her earnings with the caption: 'We broke the f**k out of that OnlyFans record.' But her announcement immediately prompted disgusted followers to brand the news as 'deranged' and slammed subscribers. 'You've been watching her since she was a child, and the second she turns 18, you're throwing money at her?' one user wrote. Another added, 'Whoever is paying y'all some f**kin creeps and weirdos.' Tay had been teasing the launch for weeks, conducting a public 'vote' on whether she should do it - tagging conservative commentator Michael Knowles, YouTubers like Jake Paul and Pearl Davis, and even Ben Shapiro. Knowles responded: 'No amount of money is worth your dignity.' But Pearl had a different opinion: 'You may as well do it because I don't think you have much else to offer to the world.' Even Lil Tay's half-brother Jason Tian seemed to be disturbed by her decision, as he appeared on her livestream yelling at her and taking her phone. Born Claire Eileen Qi Hope, Lil Tay first went viral in 2017 at age nine after posting videos full of foul language and violent behavior. It later came out that her brother Jason was feeding her lines off-camera, sparking concerns that she was being exploited by her family for money. Around the same time, her mom, Angela Tian, lost her job as a real estate agent for allegedly using her employer's properties and cars in her daughter's videos. After a brief hiatus her Instagram account suddenly went dark. Then, in 2018, the drama shifted to a custody battle between her estranged parents. Her father, Christopher Hope, wanted her to focus on music with more structure and oversight, while her mother and brother preferred her chaotic influencer persona. The situation escalated in 2019 and again in 2021 when Jason launched a GoFundMe and accused their father of abuse and stealing millions from Tay's earnings. Her father denied all allegations. Then in August 2023 a post from Tay's verified Instagram account claimed that both she and her brother had died. For 24 hours, fans believed it - though her father and ex-manager declined to confirm the news. A day later, TMZ reported that both siblings were alive. Lil Tay later alleged that the post was part of a hacking incident, though fans has suspicions that it was her father behind the hoax. Soon after, it was reported that her mother had gained full custody, and her father was ordered to pay $275,000 in child support. But the drama didn't stop there. In September 2024, Lil Tay's account announced she was in the ICU recovering from open-heart surgery after being diagnosed with a life-threatening tumor. The update included photos from her hospital bed and an echocardiogram. Now, less than a year later, she's back online, newly 18 and already stirring fresh controversy. While Tay seems to be excited about her 'comeback' - calling critics 'grown haters' and bragging, 'You can hate on me all you want, you can't say Lil Tay ain't winning.'

Rare 40th anniversary merch is a depressing reminder of how far they've fallen
Attempts by Rare to celebrate its ruby anniversary double as a tragic reminder of the state of the studio under Microsoft. Given how often game studios get shut down nowadays, it's almost a miracle for one to successfully stay open for 40 years. Case in point: Sea Of Thieves developer Rare. Although there's no exact date for its founding, Rare has chosen today to celebrate its ruby anniversary, complete with an unveiling of a heritage plaque in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, the English hometown of Rare's predecessor Ultimate Play the Game. The studio has announced a handful of ways for fans to partake in the celebrations, including a fancy new Xbox controller that's available for purchase alongside a range of other merchandise. The new controller, courtesy of 8bitdo, sports the same blue and gold colouring as Rare's logo. While its pattern appears to only reference Sea Of Thieves, you can spot puzzle pieces and feathers on the controller too, alluding to the old Banjo-Kazooie platformers. You can buy the controller from 8bitdo's website, which does ship to the UK, although it will set you back $89.99, which is roughly £68, and that's not including any potential shipping costs. Rare has also partnered with Fangamer on a new range of merchandise, and the Xbox Wire news post mentions plans for a 40th anniversary vinyl collection from iam8bit and an Evercade cartridge collection of 12 retro Rare games. Rare itself wasn't untouched by this, with its next game – Everwild – amongst those cancelled. A new Banjo-Kazooie was also rumoured to be in the works, but that's apparently been canned too. More Trending And while he wasn't laid off, Everwild and Sea Of Thieves director Gregg Mayles, one of Rare's longest running staff members, opted to leave the studio at that exact moment, missing out on the 40th anniversary. Even the new art is depressing to look at, since the majority of the characters featured haven't had a new game in years and likely never will. Seeing Perfect Dark protagonist Joanna Dark especially hurts since a Perfect Dark reboot was in the works at another studio, The Initiative, but that studio was completely shut down as part of the layoffs, with the reboot dying with it. With Everwild's cancellation, Rare doesn't have any new games on its schedule. I played the first-ever Traitors live experience – it was a heart-pounding world of lies and best friend-betrayal

But nothing could ever have prepared me for the chilling dread and simultaneous thrill of stepping into London's very own 'Scottish castle' for the new The Traitors live experience. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 8 There is a new Traitors live experience in the UK Credit: Cyann Fielding Little did I know, this was just the start of what was going to be two hours of lies, deception and brilliant gameplay. Alongside 10 other players, I made my way into the belly of the building. The basement's chill sent a shiver down my spine - very apt for the live experience of the iconic TV show. A door was opened and the round table revealed itself - with every detail meticulously recreated. I definitely didn't feel like I was in London anymore... As the door slammed closed, our host revealed himself - smartly dressed and fully in character. Claudia would have been proud - it was almost as if he were one of her disciples, which I'm guessing felt the same for the other seven rooms full of players in different stages of the experience. We begin with a message from the queen herself, followed by our first time going into complete darkness by popping on blackout goggles. This was the moment most viewers wait for - where the Traitors are selected. Before you enter the experience, you are required to fill out a form where you can express whether or not you are happy to be a Traitor or not. I went on the new Titanic immersive experience Having selected that I didn't mind, as soon as my goggles covered my eyes regret sank in. My palms became clammy, as I jigged my knee - I was now begging silently to not be chosen as suspenseful music echoed around me. The music then rose to a crescendo, increasing the fear as it bubbled through my chest. Then it was over - the Traitors had been chosen, and I had remained a Faithful. Thank goodness. With the experience progressing, players must complete five challenges to earn gold just as they do on the TV show. In between the challenges, there are 'nights' where players put on their goggles again and someone is murdered. There are also round tables, where you get to discuss players and ultimately vote to banish someone. 8 Located in London, the experience allows you to gain the thrill of the TV show in real life Credit: Cyann Fielding "I went to drama school," one player professed early on. That was his first mistake. The second came when he backtracked: "No I didn't go to drama school, I did drama and English at university. I can't act." It was too late - this early proclamation set him in stone for suspicions of many of the other players as a Traitor. The opportunity to get a shield (which protects you from being murdered for one night) in another challenge where you count to a set time blindfolded, caused some eyebrows to be raised at certain players. Clever insights from others seemed too well-thought out under the circumstances for them not to be a Traitor. This was my mistake. 8 Players even sit at a round table and have discussions Credit: The Traitors: Live Experience Accusations of piping up led to others being branded a Traitor and as a result, we failed to banish any real Traitors. With each 'night' brewing more anticipation, it was down to five players remaining including both myself and fellow travel reporter, Alice Penwill. Every second that my goggles were on for felt like an eternity and with each that passed I was chanting in my head 'please don't let it be me'. Then came the heart-plummeting moment: a pinch on the shoulder that sealed my fate. I had been murdered and was immediately escorted out to a second room where I met my previous rivals — the other murdered and banished players. Looking up to the screen, shock rippled through me as I discovered my friend and colleague was the one to murder me. I had been stabbed in the back - literally and figuratively. 8 There are also a number of challenges in the experience to complete Credit: The Traitors: Live Experience Yet the game wasn't fully over for me, nor had it been for the other Faithfuls murdered or banished. In the second room for the deceased and discarded, screens broadcast the game that is continuing at the round table. And challenges for remaining players are also a challenge for those in the second room, as we were given the chance to interfere or help the remaining players win gold. The room, which also felt like it had been dragged out of the Scottish castle itself, was the best of a bad situation. I was out alongside six other players, but that didn't mean we didn't get a full experience or waste our money. Perhaps for the first person murdered, 25 minutes or so of gameplay may feel stingy - especially then when you have to wait in the second room a while before another player joins you. But I suppose that is the name of the game - and you run that risk going in. In total, the experience lasts around two hours. 8 And opportunities to get a gold or earn a shield Credit: The Traitors: Live Experience After the experience, we were escorted to a second bar, with plenty of photo ops and merch to purchase. Here is where the debrief between strangers commences, which was an exciting reliving of what we all experienced moments before - but from a number of different perspectives. How to play like a Traitor - Alice's perspective When I was asked whether I wanted to be a Traitor from the beginning I ticked the box saying 'no' thinking it would be my worst nightmare. But in reality, it was absolutely thrilling. I entered the game as a Faithful, but during the very first roundtable found myself recruited as a Traitor by the chosen Traitor themselves. I had my blindfold goggles on and the host gently squeezed my shoulder. My first thought was 'oh no, I've already been murdered', and when I lifted up my goggles, I read from the interactive screen that I had been recruited to be a Traitor. 8 After the experience ends, you can have some fun with taking pictures Credit: Cyann Fielding Making sure to stay silent, I locked eyes with my fellow Traitor. Then, with a coy smile, I placed my goggles back on knowing the game of lying and deception, something I wouldn't say is my strong suit, had officially started. It's hard to stay on top of the challenges and act like a Faithful - but I had to say picking off fellow players one by one was pretty fun. It's challenging though when time for 'murdering' arrives because the room is completely silent. You're also very close to everyone so making no noise at all is crucial. When it came to kill off players, the Traitors had to take off their goggles and attempt to communicate in silence. This is fine when you agree, but tougher when you don't as there's no opportunity to have a lengthy conversation about who to get rid of. Through nothing but luck, I made it to the final four along with my fellow Traitor and two Faithfuls. And to complete the final challenge, we had to leave the game room and were taken through what felt like a maze of corridors, and down the stairs to a makeshift Traitors turret. 8 In total the experience lasts around two hours Credit: Cyann Fielding It looked very strikingly similar to the real location with a gloomy and castle-like feel. The four of us stood in a little circle around the well, but of course there was no plotting. There were lanterns along the wall, and even Traitors' cloaks hung up on the wall. In our game the Faithfuls were victorious, but I felt like the real winner really. At the end of the game, I asked the original Traitor why she decided to recruit me. What swayed her was that I had looked at her during the roundtable, and she thought she'd been made. So just be warned, people will pay attention to anything you do and say throughout the entire game. The experience costs from £29.50 per person - and is worth every penny. And rumour has it, new games will be added to the experience as it continues its stint in London. Plus, the new Squid Game experience feels like being in the TV show but there is a downside for families.
