Blue Bell Just Announced a Big Change to Its Ice Cream
On January 15, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a ban on Red No. 3, a move that affects a large number of items across the food and beverage industry. The artificial additive is used in a number of popular grocery items, including candy and desserts, to achieve a bright red color. To be compliant with new federal guidelines, companies must phase it out completely by 2027.
Ahead of the deadline, many industry giants have already announced plans to remove not just Red No. 3, but all artificial colors from their products. In June, Kraft Heinz announced that it will not launch any new products containing Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic (FD&C) colors in the U.S. Additionally, it will remove all remaining artificial dyes by the 2027 deadline. Hershey and Nestlé have also made recent statements about how their products will be modified to comply with new guidelines.
Now, Texas-based creamery Blue Bell is the latest to share its plans for the upcoming transition.
Blue Bell Announces Plans To Remove Artificial Colors From Its Products
On July 14, the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) announced that dozens of U.S. ice cream companies have committed to removing artificial colors in their products. In a recent statement on X, Blue Bell said that it is proud to be part of the IDFA commitment to eliminate certified artificial colors from its products, a list that includes Red No. 3, Red No. 40, Green No. 3, Blues No. 1 and 2, and Yellows No. 5 and 6.
The post also contains an image with a list of Blue Bell flavors that are already free from artificial colors, such as Bride's Cake, Java Jolt, and Homemade in the Shade, which recently returned to stores after more than a decade-long hiatus.
Many of the ice cream flavors that already meet dye-free guidelines are vanilla or chocolate-based. But what about flavors such as Christmas Cookies and Cotton Candy, which use artificial color blends to achieve their vibrant hue?
Blue Bell told Allrecipes that customers can expect the revamped ice cream to maintain the flavor fans love. "The taste, texture, and fun of our ice cream will remain the same—the ingredient list is getting a refresh," the brand wrote in a recent email.
At this time, it's not clear which Blue Bell flavors will be introducing a new ingredient label this year, but the brand advises fans to stay up-to-date by following its social media accounts for information on new and returning flavors.

Firefly Aerospace to price US IPO as it sets sights on a positive liftoff
By Pritam Biswas and Arasu Kannagi Basil (Reuters) -Northrop Grumman-backed Firefly Aerospace, the buzzy space technology startup that put a lander on the moon, is set to price its U.S. IPO later on Wednesday. In a nascent but rapidly growing commercial space industry, Firefly's IPO has attracted investor attention because it successfully landed its uncrewed Blue Ghost spacecraft on the moon in its first attempt in March. Cedar Park, Texas-based Firefly Aerospace is set to sell 16.2 million shares of its stock, priced between $41 and $43 apiece. This range was raised earlier this week, signaling strong demand. U.S. President Donald Trump's focus on commercializing space technology and safeguarding the national interests in space has attracted venture capital firms and billionaires. Elon Musk's SpaceX — the most valuable private company in the world — has become a critical part of the U.S. satellite network, even prompting a need across the government to look for more contractors. The U.S. government is betting that diversifying its contractor base will foster innovation and cut the huge costs of sending rockets to space, as well as reduce over-reliance on a single provider for critical missions. NASA's procurement process now includes new entrants such as Firefly Aerospace and Sierra Space, alongside legacy companies, leveraging commercial partnerships for lunar landers, space station modules and cargo deliveries. While space-related IPOs have been scarce in recent years, the tide is starting to turn in 2025. Firefly's listing comes on the heels of the successful New York flotations of space and defense firms Karman, AIRO Group and Voyager. As of Tuesday's close, shares of Karman have more than doubled from their offer price, while Voyager has gained 10%. "Given Firefly and the success of Voyager, I think you are going to see several more space-related companies test the waters of a public offering," said Ross Carmel, partner at law firm Sichenzia Ross Ference Carmel. TO THE MOON Formed in 2017, Firefly designs and manufactures small- to medium-lift launch vehicles, lunar landers and orbital vehicles. It had a backlog of roughly $1.1 billion and over 30 planned launches under contract as of March 31. While Houston-based Intuitive Machines' Odysseus lander was the first private lander to reach the moon last year, it made a lopsided touchdown, landing mostly intact but dooming many of its onboard instruments. Firefly's was the second, but its Blue Ghost spacecraft landed safely, reaching the moon's surface a month and a half after launching atop a SpaceX rocket from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Last month, Firefly secured a $176.7 million contract to deliver five NASA payloads to the Moon's South Pole in 2029. Firefly was valued at more than $2 billion in a 2024 funding round. The company's backers include aerospace-focused private investment firm AE Industrial Partners. U.S. defense contractor Northrop Grumman, which invested $50 million into Firefly to aid the production of their jointly developed rocket, is one of three suppliers of solid rocket motors (SRMs) to the United States. Firefly is expected to begin trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol "FLY" on Thursday.

Mckesson lifts annual profit forecast on robust demand for specialty drugs
(Reuters) -U.S. drug distributor McKesson raised its annual profit forecast and beat Wall Street earnings estimates on Wednesday, banking on robust demand for specialty medicines. High profit margins for specialty medicines, which treat complex conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and cancer, have encouraged companies to expand in the market. Texas-headquartered Mckesson expects per-share profit in the range of $37.10 to $37.90 for fiscal 2026, compared to its previous expectation of $36.90 to $37.70. Analysts on average expect a profit of $37.41 per share, according to data compiled by LSEG. Earlier in the day, peer Cencora also raised its annual profit forecast and posted quarterly earnings that topped Wall Street estimates. Mckesson reported first-quarter revenue of $97.83 billion, beating analysts' average estimate of $96.08 billion. The company said it benefited from increased prescription volumes from retail national account customers, growth in the distribution of specialty products and contributions from acquisitions. On an adjusted basis, McKesson earned $8.26 per share, compared with estimates of $8.15. The drug distributor's U.S. pharmaceutical unit — its largest segment by revenue — recorded sales of $89.95 billion. That was 25% higher than the year earlier and beat analysts' estimate of $89.52 billion. Last quarter, Mckesson said it would spin off its medical-surgical solutions unit into an independent company to focus on its core drug distribution business.
