Thrikkakara municipal chairperson defends council, says audit report false
KOCHI: On the defensive after the audit report for 2023-24 revealed major financial discrepancies in Thrikkakara municipality, chairperson Radhamani Pillai on Wednesday alleged that it was an election gimmick to defame the council as the local body election is nearing.
Addressing the media, Radhamani said the municipality had submitted documents of every transaction to the Kerala State Audit Department (KSAD) but were not accepted.
There is no corruption involved, she claimed. 'These cheques are handled by the secretary. Councillors are not involved in these matters. Also, the documents and files are moved through K-Smart. The false report is an attempt to defame the current council,' Radhamani said.
The audit report released by the KSAD on May 9 flagged serious financial discrepancies in the municipality, pointing to corruption and lapses in financial dealings, and revealed that cheques for Rs 7.5 crore, collected and deposited, were not credited to the bank account.

For me, PM Modi is god incarnate: Padma Shri awardee Kanubhai Tailor
New Delhi: On the occasion of Narendra Modi completing 11 years in office, Padma Shri awardee Kanubhai Hasmukhbhai Tailor on Monday stated that for him the Prime Minister is the incarnation of god and thanked him for the immense support and recognition he received under his leadership. In a conversation with IANS, social worker Tailor credited PM Modi for transforming not only his life but also the lives of countless differently-abled individuals across India. 'For me, Narendra Modi is god incarnate,' said Tailor. 'Since the time he became Chief Minister of Gujarat, he has worked tirelessly to bring differently-abled children and people into the mainstream. The credit for this change belongs to him alone.' Tailor, who runs a school for differently-abled children in Surat, Gujarat, was awarded the Padma Shri in 2018 for his outstanding contributions to social service and disability welfare. He praised the Modi government for its transparent and inclusive award selection process and for prioritising disability welfare. He recalled how PM Modi personally supported the establishment of his school. 'With his help, we received land in Surat to build the school. Modi ji even inaugurated a hospital for the differently-abled. Once, he told me, 'Start teaching the children from tomorrow morning.' That inspiration led us to launch a BCA college for the differently-abled, which has now received university recognition.' Tailor also highlighted the dire condition of disabled beggars in India. 'Many of them are forced to live on railway platforms and streets. After they die, their bodies remain unclaimed,' he said with emotion. To address this, he has initiated the construction of an old-age home in Bharuch's Uchedia village along the Narmada river for 12 disabled individuals. 'This will be like a resort and will cost around Rs 20 crore,' he shared. Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel laid the foundation stone of the project, and KP Group Chairman Faruk Patel has taken responsibility for the home. Praising PM Modi's eye for talent and commitment to recognising real social heroes, Tailor said, 'Modi ji travels across India and notices people who are genuinely working for society. He immediately understands their character and ensures they are recognised. For those who receive the Padma awards, it's often a complete surprise. Modi ji comes as a blessing and lifts ordinary people to national recognition.' He also applauded the post-2014 changes in the Padma award selection process: 'Now people from rural areas and diverse fields like handicrafts, agriculture, education, and social work are being honoured. The process is transparent and inspiring. The government is recognising the unsung heroes.' Tailor concluded with deep gratitude: 'I was just an ordinary man. PM Modi gave me recognition in India and abroad, helped me build a school and a hospital, and brought differently-abled individuals into the mainstream. His vision and dedication are giving a new direction to India. I have immense respect for him.'

Kim Sae Ron listed as creditor in father's bankruptcy while carrying $900,000 debt — new details emerge amid Kim Soo Hyun scandal
Almost four months after Kim Sae Ron's heartbreaking death, new reports are shedding light on the financial struggles she faced as the sole breadwinner for her family. These revelations come just as dating rumours linking her to actor Kim Soo Hyun have resurfaced, sparking widespread speculations about her past. Kim Sae Ron was listed as a creditor in her father's bankruptcy According to court filings, as reported by multiple K-media outlets, Kim Sae Ron was registered as a creditor in her father's personal bankruptcy case. She was owed over 250 million KRW (180,000 USD)—money she had used to repay her father's debts after he defaulted on loans from more than 20 creditors. Her father, identified only as 'A,' filed for bankruptcy in December 2020 and was officially discharged by the Uijeongbu District Court in March 2023. Kim was just 20 years old when the bankruptcy was finalized. Failed restaurant investment added to financial burden After her father's bankruptcy, Kim tried to help her family bounce back. In May 2021, she reportedly invested in a family-run restaurant, registering it under a friend's name. She poured financial resources into the business and promoted it using her entertainment industry contacts. But despite her efforts, the restaurant shut down in 2024 due to unpaid rent and operational fees, causing her to lose even more, including the security deposit. The DUI incident that changed everything In 2022, Kim was involved in a drunk driving incident, crashing into a transformer in Seoul. The case quickly spiralled into a public controversy. More than just a reputational hit, the crash reportedly impacted multiple nearby businesses, leading to civil compensation claims and a wave of legal expenses. During her DUI trial in 2023, her legal team stated that Kim had been the family's sole breadwinner, citing ongoing financial strain. They described her as taking on significant monetary responsibilities for herself and her relatives. Over 1.2 billion KRW in confirmed debt Reports from Money Today, bnt News, and allkpop detail the extent of the former child actress' financial struggles, with public records showing her confirmed liabilities totalled over KRW 1.2 billion (around USD 900,000). This included KRW 100 million each borrowed from two idols and one singer friend, a KRW 60 million loan from her agency to cover medical expenses, and a massive KRW 700 million owed to her former agency, Gold Medalist, as repayment for pre-paid breach-of-contract penalties following her 2022 DUI incident. Despite the staggering total, it remains unclear how exactly these funds were used—whether for personal needs, legal fees, or to support her family. Family disputes posthumous claim In April 2025, a month after Kim's death, her family's legal team released a statement denying the narrative that she had been the family's sole provider. They dismissed the reports of financial mismanagement and wealth being squandered as 'unworthy of attention.' Still, the court filings and business records tell a different story—one where Kim appeared to be taking on a role far heavier than her age. Exclusive: Driver's injury is self-inflicted. This is a false FIR, filed to extort money, says Manish Gupta
An FIR was filed at the Versova police station on June 6 against filmmaker-writer . He is known for writing films like Sarkar and SECTION 375, while directing Rahasya, The Stoneman Murders, 420 IPC and One Friday Night. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Gupta was booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections for allegedly stabbing his driver Mohammed Lashkar with a kitchen knife. According to Versova police, the incident occurred after an argument over the latter's salary at Gupta's Andheri (west) office at 8.30pm on June 5. According to a report in TOI, Lashkar, who served as Gupta's driver for three years until his May 30 termination, said his Rs 23,000 salary remained outstanding. His statement reads: "There has been instances when the film director used to indulge in fight whenever I asked for my salary which was never paid on time. This time he removed me from the job when I asked for my April month's salary which was yet to be paid." Gupta has categorically dismissed the allegations. In an exclusive interview with Bombay Times, he said, 'It's a false FIR, filed with an intent of extorting money, systematically played out under the guidance of a criminal lawyer.' He added, 'We are going to initiate criminal proceedings against Lashkar and put him behind bars. I want to expose these false FIRs racket.' Ahead of narrating the incident, Gupta shared a CCTV footage of the driver leaving the building premises (his back facing the camera) with Bombay Times and documents that reveal his advance salary claim to Lashkar as well as the driver's speeding tickets for rash driving. Gupta explained, 'He has been working for me for three years. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now On June 5, around 8.30 pm in my office, he started this bawaal to provoke me. It was very illogical. He wanted to quit my job. I had paid him an advance (Rs 41,500), which was much more than his monthly salary. This has been acknowledged by him on paper. I told him, if you're quitting, obviously the advance is going to be deducted from your salary. That didn't go down well with him, and this was his way of extorting money from me. I asked him to drop my car keys and leave. He left in a lift and while exiting the lift, held his hand over his stomach as if he was covering a wound, no blood stain is visible in the CCTV footage. The other footage which captures him walking away, shows how normal he seems while walking away. I am sure he went to his people, inflicted a harmless injury to himself and then went to the cops at 2 am. Why didn't he go to the cops directly? He tried to create this chain of events. When the cops came over to my office the next day to investigate, they also called him, he's walking, holding his stomach, taking the support of some other guy, and he's walking half a step at a time. His actions looked staged. The cops didn't find any kitchen knife because I don't have a kitchen in my office. You just get tea, coffee, biscuits. He needed the money badly for his house and daughter's education and on humanitarian grounds, I gave him the advance, and this is how he repays me.' Gupta concludes, 'I have given my statement to the police. The evidence that I showed you, has also been given to the police. In a nutshell, this is a false FIR, filed with an intention of extorting money. It has been systematically played out under guidance of a criminal lawyer. My lawyer is , and we are going to initiate criminal proceedings against this person. The CCTV footage of seconds after the incident clearly shows he is walking very normally, very casually and not at all like a person who has been attacked with a knife as he is claiming. It is very clear evidence of his lying, and he has inflicted this injury later on himself in order to build some sort of circumstance to file a false FIR. I want to expose this false FIRs racket. '
