Paris Saint-Germain signs goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier

Contract until 2030 Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi expressed his delight on the club's official website, stating: "Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to welcome Lucas Chevalier to our family." The 23-year-old goalkeeper has signed a contract that runs until 2030. Chevalier: "A boy living his dream" Chevalier, for his part, said: "I'm a boy living his dream," expressing his pride in joining one of Europe's top clubs. Chevalier shone with Lille last season in both Ligue 1 and the UEFA Champions League, helping the team secure a fifth-place finish and a spot in the Europa League. Nominated for the Yashin Trophy Chevalier was also among the nominees for the Yashin Trophy, awarded by France Football magazine to the world's best goalkeeper during the Ballon d'Or ceremony. Donnarumma's future in question The signing raises questions about the future of PSG's current first-choice goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, especially after both parties failed to agree on a contract extension. His current deal runs until June 2026. Despite playing a key role in PSG's treble last season — including a dominant 5-0 UEFA Champions League final win over Inter Milan — Donnarumma has reportedly attracted interest from several Premier League clubs. Chevalier set to be first choice Sources close to the club revealed that PSG's sporting director Luis Campos assured Chevalier he would be the team's starting goalkeeper. Expected to feature in UEFA Super Cup Chevalier is expected to be included in PSG's squad for the UEFA Super Cup final against Tottenham, scheduled for Wednesday.

Chelsea defender Colwill out of action with ACL injury

Chelsea centre back Levi Colwill suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in training, the Premier League club said, with the 22-year-old expected to miss much of the new season. The England international underwent successful surgery on the injury, Chelsea added. It typically takes some six to nine months for a player to recover from an ACL injury and return to action. "The 22-year-old had reported back to Cobham for pre-season at the start of this week, before unfortunately sustaining the injury in training," Chelsea said in a statement. "Medical assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action. "Levi will now begin his recovery and be supported by the club's medical department at Cobham during his rehabilitation phase." Colwill made 43 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea last season and helped the West London side win the Club World Cup in July. Chelsea, who finished fourth last season, open their 2025-26 Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on August 17.

Paris Saint-Germain dominate list of men's Ballon D'Or nominees

For the second straight year, the 2025 Ballon d'Or will have a new winner after Rodri failed to make the list of 30 nominees dominated by Paris Saint-Germain released on Thursday The Manchester City midfielder had already suffered a knee ligament injury ending his season by the time he won the 2024 award last October. Lionel Messi, who won the last of his eight awards in 2023, is not on the list, nor is five-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo. PSG, who claimed the Champions League in commanding fashion, have nine nominees. Barcelona, who won a Spanish league and cup double, are represented by four players including the youngest, Lamine Yamal, who has just turned 18, and the oldest, 36-year-old Robert Lewandowski. Real Madrid, who boycotted last year's ceremonies claiming to be outraged that Rodri was prefered to Vinicius, have three nominees, including the Brazilian. Napoli are rewarded for winning Italy's Serie A with one selection, Scott McTominay, who becomes the first Scottish nominee since Ally McCoist in 1987. Should he win he would become the first player from Diego Maradona's former club to win the award and only the second Scot, after Denis Law in 1964. The winner will be unveiled on September 22 at the Ballon d'Or ceremony.
