Haryana to solarise all agricultural tube wells under PM-KUSUM

Haryana Chief Minister
Nayab Singh Saini
directed officials on Friday to connect all tube wells in the state's farming sector to solar energy in a phased manner.
Saini gave these instructions while chairing a review meeting organised under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) here. Energy Minister Anil Vij was also present at the meeting.
The chief minister said the Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) should identify five-acre plots for the solarisation of at least two agricultural feeders in every district, where solar panels can be installed and electricity supplied to
agricultural tube wells
.
According to an official statement, Saini suggested to the officials that a solar-power plant should be installed on about 300 acres of land in Ganni Kheda gram panchayat, near the 220-KV sub-station located in Raiwali village of Panchkula district.
This plant will make it possible to supply solar energy to all agricultural tube wells of the district. Also, solar panels should be installed on vacant land at places like colleges, deputy commissioners' offices, the Pinjore fruit and vegetable market terminus and bus stands in Panchkula district, the chief minister said.
He said in panchayats that provide land for solar power plants, the solar panel structures should be designed in a way that those can also function as "Kalyanam Mandapams", enabling the space beneath to be used for social and community functions.
It was also decided at the meeting that solar energy panels will be installed on the sheds of the "mandis" of the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board and warehouses of the Haryana Warehousing Corporation.
Electricity will be generated from these solar panels and supplied for agricultural purposes, in accordance with the requirement.
Additional Chief Secretary, Power, A K Singh informed the meeting that more than 1.58 lakh solar pumps have so far been installed under the
PM-KUSUM scheme
in the state, which is being implemented from 2018-19.
A target has been set to install 70,000 new solar pumps in the state in the financial year 2025-26, for which a budget of Rs 600 crore has been allocated.

Will check if existing building can be used for penguin park: Zoo official

Mysuru: The proposed penguin park, which was suggested after shelving a 15-year-old aquarium project at Mysuru zoo, is likely to be another tourist attraction in the city. After the efforts of the zoo authorities were unsuccessful in securing funds for the aquarium project and convincing the tourism department to take the project forward, it was decided to abandon it. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Now, there is a fresh proposal to establish a penguin park on the lines of Mumbai and Ahmedabad under the PPP model. And, this project requires approximately Rs 70 crore. Mysuru zoo executive director KN Rangaswamy said that the penguin park project is still in the preliminary stage. The proposal will be submitted after a feasibility study, he stated. The structural stability of the existing defunct building constructed for the aquarium project, where the Penguin Park is planned, will also be studied, he explained. Dead-end project However, tourism stakeholders see it as another possible dead-end project, suggesting that the govt provide facilities for tourists instead of making fresh proposals. Many projects have reached a dead end without serving the purpose, and the latest was the aquarium project. The building was constructed after spending crores of rupees, and now the govt is trying to use the defunct building, which requires huge amount of funds. Stakeholders claimed netas lack vision for tourism development in Mysuru, which receives over 4 million visitors annually. SKAL International, Mysuru chapter, president CA Jayakumar said a well-defined vision, coupled with measurable goals, ensures projects stay on track. The govt should focus on delivering value, he added. Meanwhile, KV Rajendra, director of Karnataka Tourism, said the Eco Experience Zone (EEZ) project aims to provide tourists with a better Mysuru experience. Under the Eco Experience Zone initiative, all three popular tourist spots–Mysuru Zoo, Karanji Lake, and Regional Museum of Natural History—situated adjacent to each other, will offer visitors single-entry access for a full day of nature-based activities. The tender process will be floated soon, he said.

Underground wiring plan to boost safety, aesthetics

New Delhi: Delhi govt has announced a city-wide rollout of underground electric wiring as part of a Rs 100-crore initiative. The move aims to ensure a safer, cleaner and uninterrupted power supply for residents across the capital, chief minister Rekha Gupta said on Saturday while launching the city's first pilot project of underground wiring in Shalimar Bagh. Gupta said the work at her constituency Shalimar Bagh would be completed in approximately three months. At least 5,500 families residing in BH block Janta flats of Shalimar Bagh will benefit from the scheme, which will also improve the aesthetic landscape of the area, she added. With a budget of Rs 8.07 crore, the pilot involves removing 5km overhead high- and low-tension wires and replacing them with 10km underground LT (440V) and 1.2km HT (11kV) network. Additionally, 23 new double-source feeder pillar boxes will be installed to enhance the reliability of the power supply. New GI octagonal poles and CCMS switches will also be installed for streetlighting, significantly improving night-time lighting. Once implemented, the project will ensure an uninterrupted 24x7 power supply in all seasons. This underground initiative by Tata Power DDL, in collaboration with Delhi govt, directly addresses these issues and sets a new benchmark in urban power distribution, it claimed. The chief minister emphasised that the underground wiring initiative marked a significant pilot project for the national capital. It reflects not only technological advancement but also a clear and forward-looking vision to make the capital's energy infrastructure safer and more organised. The current condition of open and tangled wires affects both the city's beauty and public safety, and the project is a concrete effort to address such issues and enhance citizens' quality of life, she added. Gupta said this was just the beginning, and Delhi govt planned to expand this pilot project to other parts of the city soon. A dedicated budget of Rs 100 crore has been allocated for the phased rollout across various areas of the city, she pointed out. The underground wiring system will make the electricity supply more reliable, safe and efficient, the chief minister said, adding that the project aligned with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Smart Infrastructure' mission. Whether it is the Yamuna cleaning drive, the construction of roads along canals or the implementation of modern urban systems, under PM's guidance and support, Delhi is rapidly progressing towards becoming a clean, beautiful and sustainable capital, Gupta said. The chief minister also reviewed ongoing development works in Shalimar Bagh and said Delhi govt was committed to ensuring equitable expansion of basic facilities in every part of the capital. She said new drains were being constructed in BH (east) Shalimar Bagh at a cost of Rs 10 lakh. Similarly, a new sewer line is being laid in Sahipur village, also estimated at Rs 10 lakh.
