Notre Dame AD Pete Bevacqua on why the long Clemson football series was created
If you haven't heard the news, Notre Dame football and the Clemson Tigers will start a 12-year series beginning in 2027.
Both teams made the College Football Playoff this past season, and have some history between the two, even though only eight total games have been played between the Irish and Tigers. Many have been wondering why this was put together, and Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua went into details on the long series.

He said that he wanted to 'create a football schedule that positions us for success in the College Football Playoff, and that goal requires us to form historic partnerships like with one with Clemson,' as Chicago Sports Network's Matt Fortuna shared on social media.
The foresight by Bevacqua to make this deal is fantastic, especially considering that the Irish want to continue to stay an independent in football. By creating this series, it gives both sides at minimum, one marquee game each year, and plenty of potential for others for Notre Dame.

Top 2028 in-state quarterback Oscar Sloan to camp at Notre Dame Notre Dame is set to host one of the best quarterbacks in the Class of 2028 for a prospects camp Monday. Center Grove (Greenwood, IN) sophomore Oscar Sloan will be in South Bend after he unofficially visited campus for the first time April 2. The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder has scholarship offers from Maryland and Purdue, among others, and he is also on the radar of programs such as Nebraska and Penn State. While Notre Dame has yet to get a 2027 quarterback pledge, it isn't stopping Marcus Freeman and his staff from showing interest in some of the top signal-callers in the 2028 cycle. Noah Grubbs is the lone QB committed in the 2026 cycle. Sloan spent his eighth-grade campaign at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL, before starting his high school career at Center Grove. He started all junior-varsity games as a freshman and played in a couple varsity games as well, and he projects as the varsity starter this fall. On3's Mike Singer projects that Notre Dame will land 2026 WR Devin Fitzgerald While Notre Dame football didn't land any commitments this past weekend, as head coach Marcus Freeman says, there will be delayed gratification. If On3's Mike Singer is correct, then the Irish will be landing Devin Fitzgerald, the son of NFL and Pittsburgh legend Larry Fitzgerald. The 6-foot, 2-inch and 195-pound prospects is the nation's No. 483 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite, and while the ranking might not be as high as you'd like to see, that doesn't tell the whole story. Devin, like his father, is a great route running, and has been taught the nuances of being a wide receiver by one of the best to ever do it. You'll be hard pressed to find a better mentor than Larry, and he'd most likely bring some of that knowledge with him to South Bend. The elder Fitzgerald is already a friend of the program, having spoken with the team a few years back. If Notre Dame is able to add Devin to its 2026 recruiting class, they'd not only get a great player, but another former NFL father with loads of experience and knowledge to help as well.
