Crowd control measures in place for Aashada Fridays, Vardhanti
Mysuru: Mysuru district administration has made extensive preparations to manage the large influx of devotees expected at the Sri Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hills on Fridays during the Hindu month of Aashada and for Chamundeshwari Vardhanti on July 17.
Fridays in the Hindu month of Aashada fall on June 27, July 4, 11, and 18.
Deputy commissioner Lakshmikanth Reddy and police commissioner Seema Latkar, along with senior officials, inspected the temple premises on Wednesday to oversee the preparations.
Devotees can access the temple through Dharma Darshana (free general entry) or via two special entry categories priced at Rs 300 and Rs 2,000, respectively. Entry via recommendation letters will not be permitted this year.
Private vehicles will be completely banned on all Aashada Fridays, accompanying weekends, and on July 17 — a total of 12 days. Instead, free shuttle services will be provided by KSRTC from the Lalitha Mahal Grounds to the hilltop.
Sri Chamundeshwari Temple chief priest N Shashishekar Dixit stated that during the Aashadha Fridays, the special pujas will start at 3.30am at the temple. "Aashadha month is considered as auspicious in devi temples.

The annual car festival will be held on July 17," he said. "During the Aashadha Fridays, the devotees will be allowed to take the darshan of the goddess between 5.30am and 10pm. However, on July 17, the darshan will start at 8am," he explained.
Special entry ticket counters will be located at the parking lot of Lalitha Mahal Grounds. The first shuttle will operate at 5am, with the last bus departing at 9pm on Aashada Fridays, and darshan will be open from 5am to 10pm on these special days.
"Considering the stampede during the RCB victory celebrations, we've implemented strict crowd management to ensure the safety of devotees. Last year, each Aashada Friday drew between 1.5 lakh and 2 lakh devotees. This year, we are expecting even larger crowds, including on the following weekends," the deputy commissioner told reporters. He added that entry and exit routes at the temple will be separated and advised visitors to leave footwear at the parking area or avoid wearing it.
VIPs have been requested to visit the temple only between 5am and 10am.
Seema announced that over 1,700 police personnel will be deployed, including four KSRP platoons, a women's KSRP platoon. "The security will be supervised by two additional SPs grade officials. Residents staying on the hills will be required to carry valid ID cards. Separate parking facilities have been arranged for devotees opting for the Rs 300 and Rs 2,000 ticketed entries," the IPS officer said.
To ensure a smooth experience for devotees, the administration has arranged for public address systems and loudspeakers for guidance, additional toilets, drinking water stations, emergency healthcare services, and ambulance services on standby.

Live Events Significance of Jagannath Rath Yatra Jagannath Rath Yatra, with origins dating back to between the 12th and 16th centuries, is deeply embedded in both mythology and historical tradition. While some believe the festival commemorates Lord Krishna's visit to his maternal home, others associate it with the legend of King Indradyumna. The celebration rose to prominence during the reign of Odisha's Gajapati dynasty and has since become a powerful symbol of devotion and cultural identity. During the nine-day yatra, the deities—Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra—embark on a sacred 3-kilometre journey from the Jagannath Temple in Puri to the Gundicha Temple. Jagannath Rath Yatra rituals The Jagannath Rath Yatra is filled with time-honoured rituals that hold deep spiritual significance. It begins with Rath Snana, a sacred bathing ceremony where the deities are cleansed using 108 pots of holy water. Next comes Rath Pratistha, during which the newly constructed chariots are sanctified by priests through the chanting of Vedic mantras. The highlight of the festival is the Rath Yatra itself, when thousands of devotees gather to pull the majestic chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra to the Gundicha Temple, where the deities reside for nine days. Their return journey, known as Bahuda Yatra, marks their procession back to the Jagannath Temple. The celebration concludes with Niladri Vijaya, a ritual where the chariots are disassembled, symbolising the completion of the divine journey and the anticipation of its return in the coming year.

Chandigarh tourism dept aims to achieve 15 lakh tourist footfall by March 2026
With more than 10 lakh visitors arriving in Chandigarh in 2024, the Tourism Department of Chandigarh has set its eyes on achieving 15 lakh tourist footfall by March 2026. Tourism director Pradhuman Singh said, 'Chandigarh Tourism in 2024 has attracted 10.37 lakh visitors to the city, and we are targeting achieving 15 lakh tourist footfalls by March 2026. To accelerate progress, we are organising a stakeholder meeting with tour operators next month to align strategies and boost short-stay visits.' The Director (Tourism) said that on social media as well engagement targets have been set. For Facebook, which has 15,000 followers, the target is set at 30,000 followers by March 2026. On the Instagram page of the tourism department, which has 17,900 followers, the target is set for 35,000 followers by March 2026. 'We have an annual goal to surpass 40 lakh combined social media reach in the financial year 2025–26,' said Singh. To position Chandigarh as a top-tier short-stay destination for travellers bound for Shimla and Manali, the department has invited endorsements from 50 top national travel agents. The familiarisation tour, now rescheduled to late June or early July, was delayed due to regional tensions earlier this summer. The initiative's central aim is simple: to convince these agents to include a 1–2 day stopover in Chandigarh tourism packages. In the meetings with the Travel Agents Association of India, the tourism department has decided that there will be guided tours covering the city's highlights of the Capitol Complex, the Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake, Bird Park, IAF Heritage Centre, and the Govt Museum and Art Gallery. Inspired by Delhi Tourism's initiative, Chandigarh will soon issue an expression of interest (EOI) inviting local musicians and performers to entertain tourists at iconic locations like the Rose Garden and Shantikunj. Selected performers will receive a Rs 2,000 honorarium for one-hour evening slots — much to the delight of both residents and visitors, said the tourism director.
