Surat: Vansda police have arrested a man for allegedly sharing a
deepfake video
of
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
, with altered voice and visuals of an attack, in a
WhatsApp group
. The accused, Mahendra Patel, is a resident of Vansda and the admin of a group called "Enjoy Group".
According to police, the video used deepfake technology to morph the Prime Minister's voice and image, accompanied by visuals to spread fear and misinformation. The video allegedly contained disparaging remarks about Operation Sindoor and the Indian Army.
Vansda police sub-inspector A H Patel received a tip-off about the objectionable content. Patel's mobile phone was checked, leading to a Facebook link where the video was found.
Police said the content endangered the sovereignty, unity, integrity and security of the country and could disturb public peace.
"This video was created and circulated with the intent to spread fear among citizens and create unrest," Vansda police said in a statement. "Legal action was taken due to its potentially harmful and provocative nature."
Mahendra Patel was booked under Sections 197(1)(D) and 353(1)(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 66(C) of the Information Technology Act.

According to a press briefing from the government on June 10, the defence budget has climbed from Rs 2.53 lakh crore in 2013–14 to Rs 6.81 lakh crore in 2025–26 . The private sector's role in defence output has also risen, contributing roughly 21 per cent, while over 430 licensed firms and 16,000 MSMEs now support a broad industrial base. Another area of shift has been gender inclusion. Around 11,000 women now serve as officers in the armed forces, up from approximately 3,000 in 2014. In addition, 507 women have been granted permanent commissions to advance career progression. Beyond mere numbers, the period has included doctrinal and operational changes. Reports highlight enhanced counter-terrorism actions and strategic border operations undertaken to protect internal security. Challenges for India's defence sector Despite notable gains, India's sector still faces major hurdles. These include quality control, delays in project execution, limited R&D spending, and a need for deeper integration between defence PSUs and private industry. India also remains dependent on foreign technology for jet engines, stealth systems, and advanced sensors. Additionally, while defence indigenisation has increased in scale, true technological self-reliance will require consistent investment in research, talent retention, and long-term strategic planning. Promise of high returns leads Secunderabad businessman to lose ₹61 lakh in fake investment scam
A promise of high returns landed a 40-year-old businessman from Secunderabad in a ₹61.52 lakh scam via a fake investment platform. The victim was first approached on April 4 through a WhatsApp message claiming to be from 'G-6 Nuvama Wealth Group', shortly after he had entered his mobile number on a Facebook advertisement promoting an investment and stock trading application. The message directed him to a registration form hosted on an official-looking 'Microsoft Office' link and later to a trading website named Once registered, the victim was offered IPO allotments. He was led to believe he had received 9,080 shares of 'Tank Up Engineers' at ₹55 each, 1,31,500 shares of 'Arunaya Organics Ltd' at ₹20 each, and 2,06,600 shares of 'Virtual Galaxy Info Tech' priced at ₹45 per share. These fake allotments were shown to amount to a total balance of ₹2.99 crore on the portal. When he attempted to withdraw ₹56 lakh from the platform, the transaction was blocked. The fraudsters then demanded a 20% commission, amounting to ₹59.83 lakh, as a prerequisite to processing the withdrawal. Despite repeated appeals to adjust the commission from the displayed amount, the scammers insisted on upfront payment and began issuing threats, warning that failure to comply would result in blocking of his account and fund freeze. It was only after these threats and failed withdrawal attempts that the businessman realised that he was conned. Following a complaint, the cybercrime wing of the Hyderabad police booked a case and initiated an investigation.
