Reserved auto services begin at city airport with new rules
Patna: Reserved autorickshaw services officially began operating from Patna's Jayprakash Narayan International Airport on Friday. The pick-up and drop-off facilities are now available at the airport's multi-parking area.
Until now, autorickshaws were not permitted to enter the airport premises.
Under the new arrangement, drivers may enter through the old gate, drop off passengers at the designated multi-parking zone and exit through the same gate. The service is regulated with a set of new rules – all drivers must follow a prescribed dress code, carry ID cards verified by their association and have their full details recorded with both the association and airport authorities.
The service was inaugurated by Rajkumar Jha, general secretary of the All India Road Transport Workers Federation (Bihar), who highlighted the need for evolving with the times. "Drivers serving airport routes will receive English language training to better assist foreign travellers and non-Hindi speaking passengers from other states. A prepaid booth will be set up soon. Until then, drivers will carry placards to attract passengers," he said.

Pappu Yadav, president of the Patna District Autorickshaw Drivers' Association, expressed thanks to the airport director for understanding the drivers' needs and allowing operations from the parking area. "This is a major step in enhancing airport transport facilities while ensuring passenger safety and convenience," he said.
The event was attended by several association members and officials, including Mohammad, Mumtaz, Manish Kumar, Pradeep Kumar and parking contractor representative Ram Sundar Prasad Singh, also known as Bauwa Ji.

Madikeri: To encouarge water sports in a big way, the tourism department is considering a proposal to open kayaking at 10 more spots in Kodagu district. Presently, river rafting and kayaking are allowed in Dubare and Barapole. Applications have been submitted for kayaking in the areas of Hemavathi River, Kodlipet Doddakund, Devastur River near Hattihole, Aivattoklu, Hoddur, Harangi backwater area, Herur, Nakur-Shirangala, Byrampada, and Chikkabettageri, Kodagu deputy director of tourism Anitha Bhaskar said. At present, a total of 75 rafts are available at Dubare and 24 rafts at Barapole. Under the Karnataka Tourism Policy 2024-29, kayaking, one of the water adventure sports, is promoted. 1 crore lies dormant as govt sits on prepaid auto policy
1 2 Jaipur: The state govt has delayed implementing a policy for pre-paid auto-rickshaw stands for nearly five years. As a result, a nationalised bank in Jaipur has declared the account—meant for managing these stands—dormant due to lack of transactions over an extended period. According to members of auto-rickshaw associations, the account holds around Rs1 crore, collected as a Rs2 service charge from commuters at pre-paid stands. The amount was meant to serve as a benevolent fund for auto drivers and their families but remains untouched in the absence of a clear policy. "It was the Congress govt who introduced the pre-paid auto rickshaw stands in the city way back in 1999, but suddenly, after 21 years, the Congress govt again closed these pre-paid booths, citing there is no pre-paid booth policy in the state. Since then, this bank account is lying unused and was declared dormant by the bank," said Kuldeep Singh, president of an auto rickshaw association in Jaipur. The account was opened in 1999 with the Chaura Rasta branch of a nationalised bank. Two representatives of the transport department and two representatives of the two auto rickshaw associations were the signatories. For 21 years, a service charge amounting to more than Rs 80 lakhs was collected and deposited in the bank account. We did not utilise a single penny in the 21 years, and now the account has been declared dormant," stated Umrao Quershi, the President of the second auto rickshaw union in Jaipur.
