Reserved auto services begin at city airport with new rules

Time of India5 hours ago

Patna: Reserved autorickshaw services officially began operating from Patna's Jayprakash Narayan International Airport on Friday. The pick-up and drop-off facilities are now available at the airport's multi-parking area.
Until now, autorickshaws were not permitted to enter the airport premises.
Under the new arrangement, drivers may enter through the old gate, drop off passengers at the designated multi-parking zone and exit through the same gate. The service is regulated with a set of new rules – all drivers must follow a prescribed dress code, carry ID cards verified by their association and have their full details recorded with both the association and airport authorities.
The service was inaugurated by Rajkumar Jha, general secretary of the All India Road Transport Workers Federation (Bihar), who highlighted the need for evolving with the times. "Drivers serving airport routes will receive English language training to better assist foreign travellers and non-Hindi speaking passengers from other states. A prepaid booth will be set up soon. Until then, drivers will carry placards to attract passengers," he said.

No reply from Azerbaijan, Kol prof heads to Armenia

1 2 Kolkata: After waiting for four days for the migration code from the Azerbaijan authorities, Falguni Dey, the geography professor from Kolkata who travelled 1,000 km from Tehran to reach Astara, will now have to head towards Armenia, where Indian nationals are being allowed to cross the border. Dey left Tehran on Sunday in a car and travelled for nearly 40 hours to reach Astara. While he escaped the war-ravaged Tehran along with thousands of Iranians and foreign nationals, he had applied for the e-visa with the Azerbaijan authorities. He initially planned to move to Baku after crossing the border and catch a flight to India from there. "Azerbaijan was allowing US and Russian nationals to cross the border via Astara. There was no bar for Indian nationals. I presumed they would allow Indians too and waited for their approval. But it seems that the permission has got stuck in diplomatic tangles," he said. On Friday, an exasperated Dey sounded helpless. "I needed a migration code for my e-visa application. Four days have passed since I applied. The Azerbaijan authorities have now said that they cannot commit any date for the migration code. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo There are a number of Indians stuck here. Today, when I spoke to the Indian embassy in Baku, they said that I should look for other avenues to leave Iran. Armenia is one of the choices. I could understand what they tried to say," Dey said. Dey is planning to look for a car to take him to the Nurduz-Agarak border in Iran and try to cross the border from the Armenian side only after he gets permission from Armenia. "I don't have any money. However, I will try to find a way out to reach the Nurduz-Agarak border. Internet services are suspended, and I cannot send or receive any document. My family members and friends are doing whatever they can," he said. On Thursday, Dey got help from a tourist who offered to share his room at a hotel, a few kilometres from the Astara border. Dey, who spent nights at mosques and govt office lobbies over the past couple of days, had the chance to sleep on a bed. "The days are getting long, and the wait seems endless. I am trying to adapt myself to the new reality. There isn't anything else I can do now," he said. On Thursday, Dey filed documents for the e-visa with the Armenian authorities. "The Nurduz-Agarak area in Iran is around 450 km from Astara. I don't have cash, and I am clueless about paying for a car to drive me there. But I have to take a chance and get out of Iran anyhow," he said.

1 crore lies dormant as govt sits on prepaid auto policy

1 2 Jaipur: The state govt has delayed implementing a policy for pre-paid auto-rickshaw stands for nearly five years. As a result, a nationalised bank in Jaipur has declared the account—meant for managing these stands—dormant due to lack of transactions over an extended period. According to members of auto-rickshaw associations, the account holds around Rs1 crore, collected as a Rs2 service charge from commuters at pre-paid stands. The amount was meant to serve as a benevolent fund for auto drivers and their families but remains untouched in the absence of a clear policy. "It was the Congress govt who introduced the pre-paid auto rickshaw stands in the city way back in 1999, but suddenly, after 21 years, the Congress govt again closed these pre-paid booths, citing there is no pre-paid booth policy in the state. Since then, this bank account is lying unused and was declared dormant by the bank," said Kuldeep Singh, president of an auto rickshaw association in Jaipur. The account was opened in 1999 with the Chaura Rasta branch of a nationalised bank. Two representatives of the transport department and two representatives of the two auto rickshaw associations were the signatories. An old-timer recalled that in 1999, the Congress govt started these pre-paid booths with three aims. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dermatologist: Just Add 1 Drop Of This Household Item To Any Dark Spot And Wait 3 Minutes Undo First, to ensure that the passengers, especially at the railway station, airport, and Sindhi Camp bus stands, need not bargain with the drivers and can pay govt-approved fare at these booths. Second, to keep a record of the drivers and the passengers along with the items they are carrying with them for security reasons. Third, to utilise the service charge accumulated from these booths for the welfare of the auto drivers and their families. "The fare at these pre-paid booths was on par with the metered fare. Passengers needed to pay a service charge of Rs 2 for pre-paid autos, and this charge remained the same till these booths were withdrawn. For 21 years, a service charge amounting to more than Rs 80 lakhs was collected and deposited in the bank account. We did not utilise a single penny in the 21 years, and now the account has been declared dormant," stated Umrao Quershi, the President of the second auto rickshaw union in Jaipur.
