‘Mega logistics hub' planned in Greater Noida
The Greater Noida authority on Friday said it has decided to develop a mega infrastructure project with the launch of a land allotment scheme to establish a Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Sector Kappa 2, Dadri.
This project will be developed on approximately 174 acres land which costs ₹11,000 per sqm. The site is located near the Noida International Airport in Jewar.
'This is a unique project and a core component of Greater Noida authority's Master Plan 2041 and it will address the National Capital Region's expanding logistics needs and enhance competitiveness of industries in the global market. This project will not only fuel the growth but also create thousands of jobs,' said Ravi Kumar NG, chief executive officer of Greater Noida authority.
It will also enjoy seamless connectivity to the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors, positioning it as a key logistics and cargo hub in NCR.
Located adjacent to a 250-acre Inland Container Depot (ICD) operated by public sector enterprise Concor, the MMLP is expected to form part of an integrated cargo zone. Officials estimate the project will attract investments of ₹5,000 crore and generate approximately 15,000 jobs.
The park will feature an intermodal container terminal facilitating cargo movement by road, rail, and air. Modern infrastructure such as cargo yards, cold-storage-enabled warehouses with automated systems, and dedicated terminals for bulk and break-bulk cargo will be included.
Companies will also be allowed to operate bonded and non-bonded warehousing, freight forwarding, and customs clearance services. A skill development centre is planned to train personnel in logistics and digital cargo handling.
Officials highlighted the advantage of proximity to the airport and freight corridors, offering multimodal connectivity for efficient goods movement.
The authority will begin accepting online applications for land allotment from Friday. The application window will remain open for one month. A screening committee will first evaluate entries, followed by a final review by an allotment committee.
To be eligible, companies must commit to investing at least ₹1,200 crore—excluding land cost—and have a minimum of 10 years of experience in logistics, especially in managing ICDs or rail terminals.
The project will be developed under the Uttar Pradesh government's Multi-Modal Logistics Park Policy 2024, which offers incentives to qualified investors. Allotments will be based on a marking system covering investment proposals and prior experience, with shortlisted applicants invited for presentations. In case of a tie, allotment will be determined by a draw of lots.

Paris [France], June 4 (ANI): India has pushed for comprehensive World Trade Organization (WTO) reforms, calling for decisive action against non-tariff barriers and restoration of the paralysed dispute settlement mechanism during high-level ministerial discussions in Paris. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal outlined India's reform agenda at a mini-ministerial gathering of 25 WTO member countries, emphasising the need to address trade distortions and strengthen multilateral governance ahead of next year's crucial ministerial conference. Speaking to reporters after the Australia-convened meeting, Minister Goyal articulated India's three-pronged approach to WTO modernisation. 'India made a strong pitch for addressing non-tariff barriers that certain countries use to deprive others of market access, taking necessary action against non-market economies, and ensuring we have a strong dispute settlement mechanism,' he said. The minister emphasised preserving the WTO's consensus-based decision-making process while maintaining special treatment for developing nations - principles India views as fundamental to the trading system's legitimacy. India's concerns are central to the WTO's crippled dispute settlement system, which has been effectively non-functional since 2009 due to US opposition to appellate body appointments. The paralysis has left countries without recourse when trade disputes arise, undermining the organisation's enforcement capacity. While some members have promoted the Multi-Party Interim Appeal Arbitration Arrangement (MPIA) as an alternative, Minister Goyal expressed scepticism about its effectiveness. 'Only one or two members spoke about that, but there doesn't seem to be much consensus or traction to that idea. I haven't heard of any cases resolved through MPIA,' he noted. India firmly rejected attempts to expand the WTO's mandate beyond traditional trade issues, particularly opposing the China-led Investment Facilitation for Development proposal backed by 128 countries. Minister Goyal argued that such initiatives would fragment the multilateral system and create new divisions among members. 'Issues that have been mandated at the WTO should get priority and should be the first issues to be resolved,' he said. 'Issues going beyond trade should not be brought into it as it would create further differences between member countries.' The discussions addressed several longstanding challenges, including agricultural trade reforms and environmental concerns. Key agenda items included finding permanent solutions for public food grain stockholding programs and addressing overfishing practices that threaten marine ecosystems. Minister Goyal highlighted the need to resolve existing mandated issues before introducing new frameworks, reflecting India's preference for completing unfinished business rather than expanding the organisation's scope. Despite growing tensions within the 166-member organisation, Minister Goyal rejected suggestions that the WTO faces an existential crisis. 'One should not jump to the conclusion that an existential crisis has been created,' he said, calling for pragmatic problem-solving within existing frameworks. The minister emphasised collective commitment among participating countries to revitalise the organisation. 'We have all resolved to collectively work to strengthen the working of the WTO, to ensure core principles are respected and work towards global good and global growth in trade,' he stated. (ANI)

Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal was meeting ministers from other WTO-member countries on the sidelines of the OECD ministerial council meeting in Paris. "India made a strong pitch for addressing non-tariff barriers that certain countries use to deprive others of market access, take necessary action against non-market economies, ensure that we have a strong dispute settlement mechanism at the WTO so that finality can be brought and discipline can be maintained," Goyal told reporters. About 25 ministers of WTO member countries, including Australia, Singapore, France and Nigeria and WTO director general Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala were also present in the meeting. The 14th ministerial conference of WTO members is scheduled in Cameroon in March next year. The minister also called for strengthening the WTO's consensus-based approach, continuing special and differential treatment for developing and least developed countries, and shifting the focus back to issues already agreed upon in past ministerial meetings. Other areas discussed included resolving agricultural issues, especially finding a permanent solution to public stockholding of food grains. "There is the track on finding solutions to address the concerns of overfishing and indiscriminate fishing that is leading to depletion of fish stocks, there are concerns about several JSIs (joint statement initiatives) (or) pluri-laterals, which some countries believe should be brought within the multi-lateral framework," Goyal said. On the China-led proposal for an investment facilitation pact, the minister said that issues already mandated at the WTO should be given priority and resolved first. He added that bringing in topics beyond trade, like this proposal, could create more divisions among member countries. India remains opposed to the proposal. The minister said only a couple of members mentioned the Multi-Party Interim Appeal Arbitration Arrangement (MPIA), but there was little consensus or momentum around it. 'I have not heard of any cases resolved through MPIA,' he noted. The mechanism, backed by some countries, aims to handle WTO dispute appeals in the absence of a functioning appellate body.
