Big Issue editor Paul McNamee said: 'Big Issue begins with opportunity. We offer young people who are frequently marginalised and on society's edge an opportunity to lift themselves up, both through the Big Issue's own earning and learning opportunities, and by championing their voices and views through our journalism.
'For this very special edition, we wanted to learn of the unfiltered hopes, concerns and future plans of this special group of young people. They chose the content, conducted the interviews, guided Big Issue team on how they wanted the pages will look.'
Jamie Masraff, OnSide's chief executive, said: 'This special youth edition of the Big Issue highlights what people lucky enough to work with young people already know.
'Despite tired stereotypes, young people are not disengaged or lacking in ambition. They are brilliant, care about their communities and are deeply connected to the issues shaping society.
'We're proud to support this edition and even prouder of the young people who have made it happen. At a time when so many young people are facing unprecedented challenges, we need more opportunities for them to be seen, heard, and celebrated.'

This is why you keep getting ghosted after a good date

You meet a handsome date in a bar and he's perfectly charming. You hit it off, he compliments your eyes, and after a few drinks discussing your dreams of travelling and sharing pet photos, he walks you to the station and kisses you goodnight. But the next morning there's no message. That's okay, he's probably playing it cool. But morning turns to evening, which stretches into a few days, and all you have is tumbleweeds. You've been ghosted. Now, I'm certainly not projecting here (it's the last time I trek to Paddington for a date), being ghosted is becoming somewhat of a universal experience. It was a sore point for one listener on Metro's Just Between Us podcast, who wrote in asking for advice on what to do when she'd been ghosted. She said: 'I went out with a guy – best date ever! He asked me to go on another date during our first date, texted me after the date saying goodnight and how much he enjoyed it. 'But it's been silence since then – I've been ghosted.' X Factor icon Diana Vickers and Metro's dating expert Alice Giddings dive into your wildest sex, love, and dating dilemmas – every Tuesday. Listen wherever you get your podcasts or watch on YouTube. If this has happened to you, we can confirm that if the date went great, it's likely your date had a case of the 'identity wobbles'. Relationship psychologist Dr Lalitaa Suglani explains this is much more common than we think. 'It happens when a date goes so well that it unexpectedly triggers an identity crisis, or when someone feels it is 'too good to be true',' she tells Metro. 'So, they may end up self-abandoning by sabotaging the connection, especially if they hold a deeper belief that it is not going to work out.' She adds that people who experience this reaction usually have anxious or avoidant attachment styles. At least you know it's not a you problem. In fact, Dr Suglani, dating expert for eharmony, explains: 'If someone's self-image is rooted in being single, emotionally unavailable, or 'not ready for a relationship,' the sudden possibility of real connection can feel destabilising. 'Rather than confront these feelings, they may withdraw abruptly.' After a date, ghosting becomes the quickest way to restore emotional equilibrium and regulate their nervous systems,' she adds. Essentially, ghosting is the brain choosing the 'flight' part of the flight-or-fight response to the emotional risk – no matter how enjoyable the date was. It's a total bummer, but there are some signs you can look out for to try and avoid those who are likely to have an identity wobble. With 29% of daters admitting to being a ghoster, you might have your work cut out for you. Dr Suglani says: 'They might make self-deprecating jokes about being 'bad at relationships' or 'emotionally unavailable.' 'They could be vague about their recent dating history or say they 'aren't looking for anything serious' while still agreeing to a date. 'Or they might seem charming but slightly avoidant when asked personal or future oriented questions.' In short, no. It sucks, but you may just have to let that dreamy Prince Charming get away. 'There is little you can do to change someone's readiness for intimacy or a relationship,' the therapist explains. 'It is about their internal landscape and their level of self-awareness, not your behaviour.' If you really want to try and break their pattern, then Dr Suglani suggests: 'Pace the emotional intensity of early dates and create space for them to opt in at their own speed, while also managing your own expectations and tending to your own wounds. More Trending 'For example, if you grew up with an avoidant parent, you may find this dynamic unconsciously 'attractive' and feel compelled to 'fix' the person, so be mindful of this tendency. 'If they still ghost, it reflects where they are in their own self-concept, not the quality of the connection or who they are dating. 'Plus, if you feel sadness or disappointment, it is important to practise self-care and engage in activities that support and ground you.' Celebrity SAS star Lucy Spraggan breaks down in floods of tears after revealing horrifying rape ordeal during her time on the X Factor

Lucy Spraggan broke down in tears as she courageously shared the harrowing story of her rape during a deeply emotional moment on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. The singer-songwriter, 34, is currently battling her way through the intense military-style challenges, alongside ten other famous faces. During Monday night's episode, she was called in for a conversation with the staff, where she revealed the traumatic event that had haunted her for years. At just 21, while competing on ITV 's The X Factor in 2012, Lucy was raped by a hotel porter after a night out celebrating fellow contestant Rylan Clark 's 25th birthday. The attacker gained access to her hotel room using a traceable key card while Lucy was passed out from a night of heavy drinking. Opening up about what she hoped to find from her Celebrity SAS journey, Lucy tearfully said: 'Where I, where I... I've been broken so many times.' She described The X Factor as 'everything I'd ever wished for' before recalling the night that shattered her world. 'I was wasted, I was paralytic,' she said. 'The hotel porter said, "Oh I'll give her a hand," and I was paralytic. I passed out on the bed, so I can only tell you this stuff because of the information that I have been told.' She added, fighting to hold back tears, 'When that hotel porter came up to my room to do what not-nice people do to vulnerable women.' Lucy admitted the terrifying aftermath: 'I woke up and I didn't really know what… well, I knew what had happened but I didn't know what to do.' Thanks to the key card evidence, the hotel porter was caught and arrested. Lucy left The X Factor soon after, although viewers remained unaware of the true ordeal she endured. At the time when she quite the show, it was said it was down to illness. 'It was tough, hard,' Lucy said with tears flowing. 'It was seven years of, like, trying to destroy myself. The amount of times I was blackout drunk, again, after that. Opening up about what happened Lucy revealed that afterwards, she drank as if 'trying to destroy' herself and candidly confessed she knew she had to stop or she would die 'I know that's what that was, I was just trying to shut everything out, but it felt like everything was snatched away from me in a really brutal way.' She confessed her inner turmoil: 'And I was like, "I haven't done anything wrong." And so, I was angry about that, I was angry that other people had music careers that were better than mine. Or sad that I felt like I'd missed the boat. 'It all just got so heavy. I realised, I was like, "If I carry on doing this, I'm just going to die."' Carl 'Foxy' Fox then reassured her saying: 'We all genuinely believe that you'll get the most out of this course and getting to the end, regardless of how dark it gets.' Thankfully, Lucy has since found strength and happiness and tied the knot with her photographer wife Emilia Smith last June. The couple, who have been friends for 10 years, got engaged last March, just two months after telling the world they had unexpectedly fallen for one another. Simon Cowell walked her down the aisle after the pair patched up their relationship following her time on X Factor in 2012. Lucy explained that Simon was the first to apologise, previously admitting his call 'just made things so much better for me.' The star revealed she had popped the question to Emilia back in March after their friendship blossomed into a romance despite meeting over a decade ago in 2013. Speaking on the My Dirty Laundry podcast Lucy opened up about her relationship as she explained: 'It's been a surprise for both of us really because we've been friends for 10 years and it wasn't until last year, late last year that we both sort of turned to each other and we're like wait...' 'We've been really, really good friends. We've known each other for more than a decade, and we've been really good friends for like four or five years. '[The realisation for us happened] at exactly at the same time without saying anything to each other. She had a dream about me and she woke up and she's like, 'Oh, my God, I think I feel this way about Lucy'. 'And she sent me a text saying she was coming down to my show and I got butterflies and I was left thinking, 'What was that?' And that was like two days after her dream.

Celebrity SAS viewers slam lying recruit kicked out for 'cutting corners'

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins viewers have slammed a recruit after he was told his 'integrity and honesty stinks'. Last month the Channel 4 reality show returned to screens – welcoming 14 new famous faces who are put through their paces to try and achieve SAS selection. This year's line-up has included S Club's Hannah Spearritt, X Factor's Lucy Spraggan, Love Island stars Tasha Ghouri, Chloe Burrows and Adam Collar, Drag Race's Bimini and The Traitors winner Harry Clark. Along the way several have voluntarily withdrawn, but on tonight's episode Harry left both the Directing Staff and viewers enraged after he was caught 'cutting corners' and lying. During a challenge the group were tasked with doing 20 burpees, however it was quickly noticed that Harry had only bothered to do half. So far on the show the former British Army engineer, who left the forces two months before filming on SAS began, had only passed one challenge. When being interrogated at the end of the episode the 24-year-old was called out for his shady actions by Chief Instructor Billy Billingham and Foxy (Jason Fox). The pair had been going through the day's events, when it was raised that Harry had failed in leading his team. They went on to say he was 'bluffing' things and had also lied about doing the burpees required of him. 'His integrity and honesty stinks to a point of it being unacceptable,' Billy declared. Harry was then hauled in to meet with the DS after they reviewed footage that proved he'd not completed the exercise task. He was then asked about being a team player and if he 'cut corners', claims he denied. The DS then made him watch the footage himself and count out the number of burpees he'd done in total. The reality star then claimed he'd stopped early because he was 'slow and letting his team down' – a response that enraged Foxy. 'Are you trying to pull the wool over my eyes? I asked you to do 20. You've just sat there as an ex-military man and spoken about honesty, integrity and how you do your best and don't cut corners. Do you think I'm an idiot,' he said. Slamming the table and making Harry flinch, Foxy told Harry to be honest, before he and Billy called in the guard. Harry was then made to stand in front of his fellow recruits and admit his deception, before he was ordered to hand in his armband and was kicked off the show. Soon after, many viewers weighed in on what had unfolded. 'That is a humiliating way for Harry to leave. Making him count when both he and they know he'd cheated was a masterstroke,' Charlotte posted on X. 'Ironic, the very skill that won Harry the whole game on The Traitors was his entire downfall on SAS,' Kirsty shared. 'Harry is unbelievable – still trying to cover his tracks even after being found out! Thought Billy and Chris were going to explode!' Angela added. Others called it 'harsh but fair' to boot him. Seemingly not concerned about what he'd been caught doing, on Monday Harry posted a video of himself exercising on Instagram, writing: 'Practicing my burpees because apparently I can't do them.' Speaking ahead of the show premiering, Harry said he signed up to 'test' himself'. However, when asked to sum up his experience on the show, he explained: 'It was confusing because the course broke me physically and mentally. But that was actually the kick I needed and the experience I needed at that time. More Trending 'It was definitely a growing point for me. That's what I've matured from, what's taught me that not everything goes perfectly to plan. 'So yeah, I would say it's confusing because of the amount of emotions I felt. I felt every single emotion you can feel from a TV show, on that course!' After deceiving his way through The Traitors, Harry took home £95,150 in the 2024 season of the BBC game show.
