Wrexham two points ahead of Wycombe with two games left

Phil Parkinson's side picked up a thoroughly deserved 2-1 win against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road and reclaimed an automatic promotion spot after Wycombe Wanderers lost 4-0 at home to Charlton Athletic.
The Reds are now two points ahead of the third placed Chairboys with two games remaining in the quest for an historic third promotion in a row.
Charlton, who visit The Racecourse on Saturday, are four points adrift of Wrexham in fourth with Stockport County, who sit fifth, a further point adrift of the Reds.
It is advantage Wrexham once again with the Reds in the driving seat for a top-two finish, although there is still work to be done in the bid to go straight up to the Championship with title winners Birmingham City.
Parkinson made three changes from the side that started Friday's 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers.
Eoghan O'Connell, who went off injured in the stalemate, underwent a fitness test ahead of kick-off and was named on the substitutes bench, with Dan Scarr coming into the team.
Wing-back James McClean returned in place of Ryan Barnett while George Dobson was preferred to Elliot Lee in midfield.
Wrexham made a bright start and were on the front foot with Ryan Longman and Ollie Rathbone having shots blocked.
Another Rathbone effort was gathered at the second attempt by goalkeeper Harry Tyrer while the Reds came close to breaking the deadlock midway through the first half.
James McClean raced into the area after taking Sam Smith's neat flick but the wing-back was denied by a brilliant save from Tyrer.
The Blackpool keeper was again called into action to thwart Jay Rodriguez after being set-up by Dobson who then brought another save out of Tyrer.
Arthur Okonkwo did well to tip Rob Apter's fierce drive over the bar at the other end and it remained goalless at the break.
Wrexham went straight on the attack at the start of the second half and McClean headed over from Longman's cross.
However, the Reds went 1-0 up in the 61st minute.
Dobson picked out McClean with a brilliant cross-field pass and the Reds' captain's low drive went through a crowd of players and found the bottom corner.
It got even better for Wrexham who doubled their lead three minutes later.
Rodriguez laid off to Rathbone who fired home from inside the area.
Wrexham continued to press and Matty James was denied by Tyrer while Rathbone fired over the bar.
Apter scored in the fifth minute of injury time to pull a goal back for Blackpool but Wrexham weren't to be denied a huge win.

Andy Robertson could face awkward Diego Simeone meeting after Atletico comments

Andy Robertson is being eyed by Atletico Madrid for a surprise transfer this summer, but back in 2020 the Liverpool full-back wasn't too enamoured with Diego Simeone's men Andy Robertson might feel the legendary wrath of Diego Simeone if the Atletico Madrid boss recalls the 2020 comments made by his new transfer target. Scottish left-back Robertson has emerged as a surprise target for Atletico this summer, with the 31-year-old having just one year left on his contract at Liverpool, who are closing in on the signing of Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez. ‌ Robertson has been a mainstay of the Liverpool defence since joining in 2017 and first breaking into the team on a sustained basis around five months later. ‌ But he now finds himself mulling over a potential move to the Spanish capital just days after long-term full-back partner Trent Alexander-Arnold completed his own switch to Real Madrid. Robertson is said to be open to the move in the knowledge that the arrival of Kerkez for around £45million could push him down the pecking order after making 342 appearances for the Reds ever since a bargain £8m move from Hull City eight years ago. And it was three years into his Anfield career that he first came face to face with Atletico, who were drawn against Liverpool in the last-16 of the Champions League in the 2019-20 season. The Reds went to the Wanda Metropolitano - where they had won the 2019 Champions League final - for the first leg and slipped to a 1-0 defeat courtesy of an early goal from Saul Niguez, who punished slack defending from a corner. Robertson was left frustrated with the manner of the goal and furious at Atletico's style of play on the night, with the Reds star accusing the home players of simulation and of trying to get Sadio Mane sent off. ‌ "The corner just ricocheted, it was tight but onside," said Robertson after the game. "We gave them the best possible start and that get the fans behind them and then they start falling over and getting under the skin a bit. "We put in a decent performance and we know we can be better. We've got a second leg to put it right. ‌ "They celebrated as if they won the tie after the game. They are coming to Anfield and we know our fans will be there." In the event, Liverpool would lose the second leg 3-2 after extra-time to exit the Champions League to Simeone's side in what would prove to be the last match played on British soil prior to football's shutdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Shock club joins Tyler Dibling race amid Man Utd and Chelsea links

A surprise contender has emerged in the race to sign Southampton winger Tyler Dibling this summer, with the youngster attracting interest from abroad. It was a disastrous season int he Premier League for the Saints last time round, but Dibling was one of the very few bright sparks. Still just 19 years old, the England Under-21 international caught the eye, scoring four goals in 38 appearances across all competitions. Manchester United and Chelsea have been credited with an interest in the teenager, as have the likes of Tottenham and Bayern Munich. There has not appeared to be much movement, despite that level of interest, and a new challenger has emerged. Portuguese publication Record report that Porto have been impressed by the youngster and are exploring a way of making a deal happen. That will be far from easy for them to do given the enormous asking price Southampton have suggested for Dibling, with the Telegraph reporting that earlier this year that the Saints have quoted an enormous £100m for their star player. That would be extremely ambitious for the now Championship club, but even if they cannot seriously expect £100m for Dibling, they will want a lot of money. Porto are reportedly exploring swap deals or loan arrangements as ways of getting an unlikely deal done. The winger is under contract at St Mary's until 2027 and has not sounded in a rush to leave Southampton in the near future. 'I don't try to think about it and just try and go into train every day and work hard and train the best I can,' he said earlier this year when asked about transfer speculation. 'At the end of the day, I love Southampton. I have been here since I was eight. It's such a great team and I am working to do big things with them.' Dibling has come with rave reviews from Southampton, with his game boasting far much more than his basic goal-scoring stats suggest. Former Southampton Under-21 head coach Adam Asghar told BBC Sport of the teenager: 'He's the most fearless player I've ever worked with. 'He's totally unique to anything I've seen before. He's got raw physicality, pace and power, is an unbelievable ball-carrier and is always impacting games. Former Southampton manager Russell Martin told The Rest is Football of Tyler Dibling… 'He's the most talented player I've ever seen – ever worked with. I worked with James Maddison at that age at Norwich, he was outstanding. 'Tyler has every capability to go and play for England and at a top level for a very long time. 'He's powerful, he's really quick, both feet, can shoot. I worked with Harry Kane and physically the stuff I've seen him do at 18 in the Premier League with people just bouncing off him – he has something I've not seen in a British player in a long time. 'He'll play as a No.8 or a No.10 eventually, but he's 18 so we played him out wide and he was incredible. 'He can play wide, we played him as a false nine in pre-season and he was our best player.' 'In a generation of football where it's very much about limited touches and moving the ball quickly Tyler can move it as quickly by carrying the ball rather than passing it and that's what makes him such a special talent. More Trending 'Every game (with the Under-21s) he would always have four or five moments that would almost take your breath away. 'He is really sure of his ability. He wouldn't be fazed by the opponent or situation, he played with fearlessness.' When Dibling was first linked with Manchester United in December, there was a suggestion the Red Devils were planning to bid £21m for him in January. Russell Martin, who was in charge of Saints at the time, said: 'I was told about some rumours of Manchester United wanting to bid £21m. I'm not sure they'd get his left foot for that.' Arsenal 'freeze' Gyokeres transfer despite Man Utd snub as old target re-emerges

Arsenal looked to have won the race for Viktor Gyokeres after he snubbed Manchester United, but Sporting's demands have reportedly thrown a spanner in the works Arsenal have reportedly paused their pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres, despite the striker rejecting a move to Manchester United in favour of the Gunners. Mikel Arteta is keen to sign a new goalscorer and has told fans to expect a "big summer" in the transfer market. "It's going to be a big one and we are very excited about it," Arteta said earlier this year. "The way we planned the five first summers, they were going to be very big and they were going to have different objectives because the turnaround of players and the objective of those windows was going to be different. ‌ "But now when you are going to go again, we want to increase the depth of the squad but as well we want to increase the quality and the skills that we need to go to the next step." ‌ And Gyokeres had emerged as their top attacking target, having scored 97 goals in 102 games since joining Sporting in 2023. United were also interested in the 27-year-old, but he informed them that he did not want to join as he would rather sign for a club in the Champions League. However, Portuguese outlet Record are now reporting that Arsenal have 'frozen' their pursuit of Gyokeres‌ due to Sporting's asking price. It is claimed that Sporting rejected an initial offer of €55million (£47m) plus an additional €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons. Arsenal are then said to have proposed a total package worth around €70m (£60m), but Sporting want the player's £85m release clause to be met. "Threats, blackmail and insults don't work with me," Sporting president Frederico Varandas said. "I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for €60m+10m (£51m+£8.5m) because I never promised him that. This game that the agent is playing only makes the situation worse." As a result, it is claimed that Arsenal have now turned their attention to other options, including Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins. Arsenal attempted to sign Watkins during the January transfer window, with the Gunners claiming they were offered the forward as Villa attempted to balance their books. ‌ However, Villa ultimately ended up selling Jhon Duran to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr instead and Watkins stayed put. The England international was a boyhood Arsenal fan and admitted back in 2020 that playing for the Gunners was his "dream". "Thierry Henry, as an Arsenal fan, was unbelievable to watch. He was my idol growing up," he told Sports Gazette at the 2020 London Football Awards when he was playing for Brentford in the Championship. "The dream is to play for Arsenal one day but it's a long shot. My family support them and stuff like that but that's the long term."
