Low expectations for Tesla's second-quarter earnings attributed to Musk

It's been a rocky year for Tesla's financial outlook. The electric vehicle maker once led the market for gas-free cars, but recently has faced falling stock, steep competition and a CEO who's been described as erratic and a chaos maker. Given the events of the past few months, Wall Street has a pessimistic expectation for Tesla's second-quarter earnings, to be reported after the bell on Wednesday. Analysts are predicting the company's second-quarter revenue to be $22.7bn, down 11% from the same time last year, and marking a second straight quarterly decline, according to CNBC. Tesla's stock has vacillated throughout 2025, starting the year at a near all-time high of $428 per share in January and then plummeting by nearly half to $222 per share in March. Tesla's overall stock has dropped nearly 13% this year. Earlier this month, Tesla released data on its vehicle deliveries and showed a 14% decrease over last year. In Europe, Tesla's new-car sales fell by 27.9% in May from a year earlier. That was in sharp contrast with other electric vehicle makers, which have seen a jump in sales over the past year. The volatility at Tesla has been partially attributed to CEO Elon Musk's role in Donald Trump's administration as the de facto head of the so-called 'department of government efficiency' (Doge). At Doge, Musk led the charge to downsize the federal government, getting rid of various agencies and instituting layoffs in nearly all departments. This sparked mass countrywide protests against Tesla and demands to boycott the company. By early June, as Musk was scheduled to leave his role as a special government employee, the relationship between the CEO and president had frayed, leading to a spectacular blowup between the two men. They hurled insults at each other over social media and, once again, Tesla's stock plunged. 'The Tesla brand is under attack and provides a prime example of negative brand equity rub – the perception of Elon Musk, its chief executive, has rubbed the sheen right out of what once was a darling and soaring automotive brand,' said Dipanjan Chatterjee, a principal analyst for Forrester. 'This poses a significant threat to Tesla's growth, as large parts of the prospect pool are poisoned by what they perceive as a toxic brand that is inseparable from its leader.' After the Musk and Trump feud, Musk said he was going to focus on running his companies and began hyping the rollout of Tesla's first driverless robotaxi in Austin, Texas. The launch featured about 10 cars designated to certain areas of the city and had 'safety drivers' in the front passenger seat. Although Musk touted the launch as a success, several people posted videos on social media showing the robotaxis driving down the wrong lane, speeding and unable to make left turns. Two days later, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into the service and requested that Tesla supply the agency with information on the incidents. Sign up to TechScape A weekly dive in to how technology is shaping our lives after newsletter promotion During Tesla's earnings call on Wednesday, investors will be looking at Musk's dedication to the company and how he will regain some of the year's losses. The CEO has said he's not done with Washington, however, and is now starting a new US political party called the America party.

Larkin Feroxa Is A Naturally Aspirated Sports Car With Up To 12 Cylinders

Larkin Special Vehicles Announces Itself As is the case every year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, there's so much going on that absorbing all of it is simply impossible. Established automakers show off why they still deserve the public's attention, and newcomers aim to capture some of that interest for the first time. This year, one of those newbies was Larkin Special Vehicles, which presented an incomplete prototype of its new Feroxa sports car, and although there's still lots to learn, what we see so far is exciting. 0:08 / 0:09 What is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Backcountry? Watch More Designed by former Aston Martin and Jaguar Land Rover engineer Douglas Larkin, the Feroxa is based on the 2006-2018 Aston Martin Vantage, and that means two engine options… V8 Or V12 On Offer Customers supply their Vantage in right- or left-hand drive, and Larkin modifies the bonded aluminum chassis to accommodate a new carbon fiber body, aiming to keep weight below 1,300 kilograms or 2,866 lbs. That low figure means the original 4.3-liter V8 is worth sticking with, though a new exhaust with custom headers helps boost output from 380 horsepower as standard to 420 hp here. Should you want more grunt, Bamford Rose can further tune the V8. Either way, the Graziano six-speed manual transmission is retained with a lighter flywheel. If you start with the V12 model and its 5.9-liter engine, over 500 ponies will be available; Aston Martin offered between 510 and 592 hp when the naturally aspirated 12-cylinder Vantage was on sale. Larkin makes no mention of the seven-speed dog-leg manual in the V12 Vantage S, but it's likely that most commissioning buyers will start with something a little less special (only 351 examples of the V12 Vantage S were built – 260 coupes and 91 roadsters). Only 10 Examples Will Be Built Rotiform DTM wheels (replicas of the classic OZ Racing Ultraleggera design) fill the arches, giving the speedster a racy look, but we hope to see higher-quality wheels fitted to the final product; cast imitation wheels don't belong on a six-figure sports car. The interior of the car was also a mess at Goodwood, but Larkin expects to complete its prototype by the end of the year, with a full reveal planned for next spring. By then, it's possible the entire run will be sold out as Larkin will only produce 10 of these new Feroxa sports cars, though an exact price has yet to be announced. With a long hood over a naturally aspirated V8 or V12, a manual transmission, a pert rear end housing the driven axle, and an open top, the Feroxa has all the ingredients of a classic sports car recipe. We only hope the final product won't be half-baked. About the Author Sebastian Cenizo View Profile

SPIED: 2027 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Will Justify Ludicrous Price With More Power Than Ever

By signing up I agree to the Terms of Use and acknowledge that I have read the Privacy Policy . You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. 992.2 GT2 RS Is Down With The Thickness Over the last year or so, various spy photos and videos have confirmed that Porsche has begun work on another iteration of its most powerful 911 model, the GT2 RS. The latest spy shots give us more insight than ever before, and a new video shows us what the turbocharged mill will sound like, so scroll to the bottom of this article if you don't care about all the technical details. For everyone else, let's recap what the rumor mill has claimed – right after taking a look at the much wider body. The mule has some tacked-on flares on the rear fenders, with full replacement (vented) fenders at the front. If these elements are representative of the production bodywork, the GT2 RS will be the widest 911 ever. Other changes? The tailpipes are offset to the sides of the diffuser panel, unlike the central placement of naturally aspirated GT cars, and the front spoiler is more aggressive. Hybrid Power Is Coming More than two years ago, Autocar reported that the 992 GT2 RS would feature a mild-hybrid powertrain based on technology originally developed for the Le Mans-winning 919 Hybrid and its successor, the 963 LMDh hypercar. The report claimed that the battery would reside behind the seats for a 39:61 weight balance, and since then, Porsche has put something similar into production with the 992.2 911 Carrera GTS and its T-Hybrid system. Thus, it's reasonable to assume that the GT2 RS will continue to base its powertrain on that of the 911 Turbo (currently a 3.7-liter twin-turbo flat-six, formerly a 3.8), supplementing it with an electric motor. The last GT2 RS produced 691 horsepower, and if rumors can be believed, the new one will make as much as 850 hp. It's worth noting that some reports have indicated a 4.0-liter engine for the GT2 RS, and as exciting as that would be (with or without turbocharging), it doesn't sound particularly cost-effective. Then again… The Price Will Cause Swooning In February of this year, The Supercar Blog reported the leaked price of the new GT2 RS: €450,000 before any deductions. At the time, that worked out to around $488,000, but today, that Euro figure equals $528,000. The last GT2 RS was originally limited to 1,000 units, and the new one will likely have a similarly small production run, which helps justify the cost. Whatever the true pricing, we all know Porsche will sell every last car it can make. That run is expected to begin in time for deliveries to be made in June 2026.
