Oracle, Accenture and Lennar are part of Zacks Earnings Preview
For Immediate Release
Chicago, IL – June 16, 2025 – Zacks.com releases the list of companies likely to issue earnings surprises. This week's list includes Oracle ORCL, Accenture ACN, Lennar LEN.
Previewing Q2 Earnings Expectations
The expectation is for Q2 earnings to increase by +5.1% from the same period last year on +3.8% higher revenues. This will be a material deceleration from the +11.9% earnings growth in Q1 on +3.6% revenue growth.
In the unlikely event that actual Q2 earnings growth for the S&P 500 index turns out to be +5.1%, as currently expected, this will be the lowest earnings growth pace for the index since the +4.3% growth rate in 2023 Q3.
We have been regularly flagging in recent weeks that 2025 Q2 earnings estimates have been steadily decreasing.
The magnitude of cuts to 2025 Q2 estimates since the start of the period is larger and more widespread compared to what we have become accustomed to seeing in the post-COVID period.
Since the start of April, Q2 estimates have declined for 14 of the 16 Zacks sectors (Aerospace and Utilities are the only sectors whose estimates have increased), with the largest cuts to Conglomerates, Autos, Transportation, Energy, Basic Materials, and Construction sectors.
Estimates for the Tech and Finance sectors, the largest earnings contributors to the S&P 500 index, accounting for more than 50% of all index earnings, have also been cut since the quarter got underway. But as we have been pointing out in recent weeks, the revisions trend for the Tech sector has notably stabilized in recent weeks.
A likely explanation for this stabilization in the revisions trend is the easing of tariff uncertainty after the more punitive version of the tariff regime was delayed. Analysts started revising their estimates lower in the immediate aftermath of the early April tariff announcements, but appear to have since concluded that those punitive tariff levels are unlikely to get levied, helping stabilize the revisions trend.
In terms of S&P 500 index 'EPS', these growth rates approximate to $254.04 for 2025 and $287 for 2026.
Key Earnings Reports This week
The Q2 earnings season will really get going when the big banks come out with their June-quarter results in about a month. But we will have officially counted almost two dozen quarterly reports from S&P 500 members by then. All of those reports will be from companies with fiscal quarters ending in May, which we and other research organizations count as part of the June-quarter tally.
We have seen such fiscal May-quarter results from four S&P 500 members, including last Wednesday's strong release from Oracle. We have another six S&P 500 members scheduled to report results this week, including Accenture, Lennar, and others.
Oracle shares were up significantly following the beat-and-raise quarterly release, which came after two consecutive quarterly reports that market participants had found disappointing. Oracle's cloud growth appears to have finally arrived, with fiscal 2026 cloud revenues expected to grow by +40%, up from the fiscal 2025 growth rate of +24% (Oracle's fiscal year ends in May).
As noted earlier, the stock has spiked on the earnings release and is now up +29.3% this year, handily outperforming the S&P 500 index (up +2.1%) and the Zacks Tech sector (up +2.5%).
Shares of IT consulting firm Accenture have been under pressure lately, reflecting a challenging operating environment for its end-markets. The stock is down -11.4% this year, which compares to a +2.1% gain for the S&P 500 index and a +2.5% gain for the Zacks Tech sector. The issues in the Accenture story, in a generalized qualitative sense, pertain to the negative effects on corporate IT budgets of the ongoing tariff uncertainty and the deflationary effects of AI-driven operating efficiencies.
One could argue that Accenture's scale lends its results considerable stability, particularly in comparison to other peers like India-based Infosys, TCS, and Wipro. But these macro headwinds nevertheless limit the stock's near-term upside potential. The company is scheduled to report results on June 20 th, with estimates essentially unchanged over the last two months.
Lennar, the homebuilder, is scheduled to report results after the market's close on Monday, June 16 th. The homebuilder is expected to bring in $1.97 per share in earnings on $8.24 billion in revenues, representing year-over-year changes of -41.7% and -5.97%, respectively.
This is a challenging environment for Lennar and other homebuilders, with demand hindered by affordability concerns and elevated mortgage rates. The stock was down after each of the last five quarterly releases and has lost roughly a fifth of its value this year (down -20.3%), which compares to the Zacks Construction sector's -1.9% decline and the S&P 500 index's +2.2% gain.
Q2 Earnings Season Scorecard
As noted earlier, we have already seen fiscal May-quarter results from four S&P 500 members, which we include in our Q2 tally. Total earnings for these four index members that have reported results are up +4.7% from the same period last year on +8.6% revenue gains, with 75% of the companies beating EPS estimates and all beating revenue estimates.
We are not drawing any conclusions from these results, given the small sample size at this stage. But we nevertheless wanted to put these early results in a historical context.

Leonard Lauder, philanthropist who globalized family cosmetic business, dies at age 92
NEW YORK (AP) — Leonard Lauder, a renowned philanthropist who expanded the family cosmetics business into a worldwide empire, has died at the age of 92. Estee Lauders Cos. announced the news in a release on Sunday and said he died on Saturday surrounded by family. Lauder, the oldest son of Estee and Joseph H. Lauder, who founded the company in 1946, formally joined the New York business in 1958. Over more than six decades, Lauder played a key role in transforming the business from a handful of products sold under a single brand in U.S. stores to a multi-brand global giant. He had held the title of chairman emeritus at the time of his death. Estee Lauder's products are sold in roughly 150 countries and territories under brand names including Clinique and Aveda, according to the company's latest annual report. The company generated sales of nearly $16 billion in the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024, the filing said. Estee Lauder went public in 1995, but members of Lauder family still have about 84% of the voting power of common stock, according to the latest annual filing. Lauder served as president of The Estée Lauder Cos. from 1972 to 1995 and as CEO from 1982 through 1999. He was named chairman in 1995 and served in that role through June 2009. Under his stewardship, Lauder created the company's first research and development laboratory, brought in professional management at every level, and was the impetus behind The Estée Lauder Cos.' international expansion, helping to spearhead the company's sales and profits exponentially, according to the company. Lauder led the launch of many brands including Aramis, Clinique, and Lab Series, among others. Until his death, he remained deeply involved in the company's acquisition strategy, including the acquisitions of such brands as Aveda, Bobbi Brown, Jo Malone London and MAC, the company said. During his years as chairman emeritus, Lauder was closely involved in the business and day-to-day operations and was a constant fixture at its global headquarters in New York and at its stores around the world until the time of his death, the company said. 'Throughout his life, my father worked tirelessly to build and transform the beauty industry, pioneering many of the innovations, trends, and best practices that are foundational to the industry today,' said William P. Lauder, son and chair of the board at The Estée Lauder Companies in a statement. 'He was the most charitable man I have ever known, believing that art and education belonged to everyone, and championing the fight against diseases such as Alzheimer's and breast cancer. ' Lauder was a longtime patron of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and, in 2013, pledged his 78-piece collection of Cubist art to the museum in the largest single philanthropic gift in the museum's history. He later added five major works to that pledged gift, the company said. In concert with his Cubist collection donation, he helped establish the Leonard A. Lauder Research Center for Modern Art at the Met to support a program of fellowships, focused exhibitions, and public lectures. He also was the Whitney Museum of American Art's chairman emeritus and a trustee from 1977 to 2011. Lauder was married to Evelyn H. Lauder, who had been the senior corporate vice president at the cosmetic company and the founder of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, from 1959 until she passed away in 2011. On Jan. 1, 2015, Lauder married Judy Glickman Lauder, a philanthropist and internationally recognized photographer. Lauder was born in 1933 in New York City. He was a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science, the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, and the Officer Candidate School of the United States Navy. Lauder studied at Columbia University's graduate school of business. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and as a Navy reservist, for which the U.S. Navy Supply Corps Foundation later recognized him with its Distinguished Alumni Award. In addition to his wife and son William, Lauder is survived by his other son Gary M. Lauder and wife, Laura Lauder; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many stepchildren and step grandchildren, as well as his brother, Ronald S. Lauder, and wife, Jo Carole Lauder, and their daughters, Aerin Lauder and Jane Lauder.

Citigroup vs. JPMorgan: Which Banking Giant Offers the Better Upside?
Citigroup, Inc. C and JPMorgan Chase JPM are major players in the U.S. financial sector, but they represent very different investment profiles. Both are deeply involved in investment banking, trading and consumer finance, and are currently navigating rising credit risks and macroeconomic uncertainty. Let us delve deeper and assess the long-term growth and earnings potential of each bank. The Case for JPMorgan JPM is expanding its footprint in new regions despite the rise of mobile and online banking. It is expanding its affluent banking services by opening 14 J.P. Morgan Financial Centers across California, Florida, Massachusetts and New York. The company plans to nearly double the figure by 2026. Also, it plans to open more than 500 branches by 2027, with 150 already built in 2024. This initiative aligns with the company's broader effort to tailor its branch network to client needs, combining digital tools, expert guidance and an expansive physical footprint. With the Federal Reserve expected to keep interest rates steady in the near term because of tariff-related concerns, relatively high rates will likely support JPMorgan's net interest income (NII) and net yield on interest-earning assets as funding and deposit costs gradually stabilize. The company's NII is expected to be $94.5 billion in 2025 (up almost 2% year over year). JPM continues to be a dominant player in the investment banking (IB) business, holding the top position for global IB fees. While the company's capital markets performance was decent in the first quarter of 2025, short-term IB prospects appear uncertain due to economic instability. The company projects IB fees in the Commercial & Investment Bank segment to decline in the mid-teens range from the $2.46 billion registered in the same quarter last year. JPMorgan remains vigilant about the effects of continuous high rates and quantitative tightening on its loan portfolio. As such, the company's asset quality is likely to remain under pressure in the near term. JPM expects card net charge-off (NCO) rates to be 3.6% this year, with the metric expected to rise to 3.6-3.9% in 2026. The Case for Citigroup C has been emphasizing leaner, streamlined operations to reduce costs. The transformation process included an organizational restructuring and the elimination of 20,000 jobs by 2025. The company has been focusing on growth in its core businesses by streamlining its overseas operations. In April 2021, it announced its plan to exit the consumer banking business in 14 markets across Asia and EMEA. In sync with this, last month, Citigroup, through its subsidiary Citibank Europe Plc, announced that Citi Handlowy agreed to sell its consumer banking business in Poland. The company has already exited from Australia, Bahrain, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. As part of its strategy, Citigroup continues to make progress with the wind-downs of its Korea consumer banking operations and its overall operations in Russia, as well as the preparation for a planned initial public offering of its consumer banking and small business and middle-market banking operations in Mexico. This strategic simplification not only reduces operational risks but also frees up capital to reinvest in high-return segments like IB and wealth management. Citigroup expects the performance of its Markets and Banking segments to improve in the second quarter of 2025. The bank projects markets revenues to grow in the mid to high-single-digit range on a year-over-year basis and IB revenues are expected to increase in the mid-single-digit percentage. The company anticipates an improvement in NII in 2025, given decent loan demand and higher deposit balances. It projects NII (ex-Markets) to rise 2-3% year over year in 2025. C expects the second-quarter cost of credit to be 'up a few hundred million' sequentially, driven by higher credit reserve build. The company is facing higher credit costs, but with active reserve building and reduced exposure to underperforming regions, it is taking proactive steps to strengthen its portfolio. C & JPM: Price Performance, Valuation & Other Comparisons In the past year, C and JPM shares have risen 34.3% and 41.8%, respectively, compared with the industry 's growth of 32.7% Price Performance In terms of valuation, Citigroup is currently trading at a 12-month forward price-to-earnings (P/E) of 9.28X, higher than its five-year median of 8.45X. Conversely, JPMorgan's stock is currently trading at a 12-month forward P/E of 14.05X, which is higher than its five-year median of 12.25X. Price-to-Earnings F12M Citigroup is trading at a discount compared with the industry average of 13.53X. Also, the stock is inexpensive compared with JPMorgan. Additionally, C and JPM reward their shareholders handsomely. Citigroup hiked its quarterly dividend 6% to 56 cents per share in July 2024. It has a dividend yield of 2.93%. JPM increased its quarterly dividend 12% to $1.40 per share in March 2025. It has a dividend yield of 2.11%. Based on dividend yield, C has an edge over JPM. Dividend Yield Both companies have a share repurchase plan. On Jan. 13, 2025, Citigroup's board of directors approved a $20-billion common stock repurchase program with no expiration date. As of March 31, 2025, it had nearly $18 billion of stocks available under the plan. After clearing the 2024 stress test, JPM authorized a share repurchase program of $30 billion. As of March 31, 2025, $11.7 billion in authorization remained available. How Do Estimates Compare for C & JPM? The Zacks Consensus Estimate for JPMorgan's 2025 sales suggests a year-over-year decline of 1.8%, while that for 2026 sales implies a year-over-year rise of 2%. Likewise, the consensus estimate for 2025 earnings implies a year-over-year fall of 6.8%, while that for 2026 earnings indicates a 5.3% rise. Its earnings estimates for 2025 and 2026 have been revised upward over the past 30 days. JPM's Estimate Revision Trend Image Source: Zacks Investment Research The Zacks Consensus Estimate for C's 2025 and 2026 sales suggests year-over-year growth of 3.2% and 3.1%, respectively. Likewise, the consensus estimate for 2025 and 2026 earnings indicates a jump of 24.2% and 24.8%, respectively. Its earnings estimates for 2025 and 2026 have been revised upward over the past month. C's Estimate Revision Trend JPM or C: Which Stock Belongs in Your Portfolio? While JPMorgan remains a dominant force in U.S. banking with its broad diversification and scale, its near-term prospects are clouded by softening IB activity, cautious NII guidance and rising credit costs. In contrast, Citigroup is executing a bold transformation, streamlining its global footprint, and reallocating resources toward high-growth, high-return areas. Supported by improving earnings estimates, a discounted valuation and a comparatively higher dividend yield, Citigroup offers a more attractive risk-reward profile for long-term investors. By streamlining its operations and capitalizing on momentum in key areas like markets and IB, the company is not merely adapting to economic uncertainty; it is turning the situation into a strategic advantage for long-term growth. Hence, for investors seeking growth with a healthy dividend and a discounted entry point, Citigroup is the more compelling play. C and JPM currently carry a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
