The pictures of The Oval chief curator Lee Fortis standing on the stadium's pitch with England coach Brendon McCullum are going viral after an intense verbal argument with Indian counterpart Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday. The fracas started after the Indian support staff were asked by Fortis to stay 2.5 metres away from the pitch during their inspection, revealed Indian batting coach Shitanshu Kotak.
Fortis has also been accused of yelling at one of the members of the Indian support staff team for carrying an ice box close to the pitch. Amid the accusations, multiple pictures of Fortis being quite lenient towards the England coach, McCullum, are going viral on social media.

Oval curator accused of 'double standards' vs India
In one of the pictures, taken by cricket journalist Adam Collins in July 2023, McCullum and Fortis can be seen standing on the pitch two days before the fifth Ashes Test against England began at The Oval.

In another picture, Fortis can be seen sharing a laugh with McCullum and the England men's cricket team Managing Director, Rob Key, a day before India went to inspect the pitch.

Kotak claimed that England's visit to inspect the pitch went swiftly as Fortis had no issues with where they were standing or what they did.
'That's what made it awkward. England's staff came in the day before in casual clothes and nobody told them where to stand or not stand,' Kotak said.
Kotak also pointed out that Fortis was arrogant in his behaviour while dealing with professionals.
'Curators need to understand that they're dealing with highly skilled, intelligent professionals. We're extremely careful around the pitch. No one had spikes on, and nothing was damaged,' Kotak said. 'You can be protective—but not to the point of arrogance.'

'This isn't an antique that'll break if you touch it. Come match day, players will be diving and sliding all over that square.'
Indian fans slam Fortis on social media
Meanwhile, fans have accused Fortis of 'double standards' as they compared his behaviour with Gambhir and McCullum.
'Curator Lee Fortis & England coach Brendon McCullum standing on the pitch, today & during Ashes 2023 Take your double standards, hypocrisy & shove it in the place where the sun doesn't shines There is a very good reason why Poms are hated worldwide as being arrogant & hypocrites,' an Indian cricket fan wrote on X.
Another fan questioned: 'The Oval's chief curator Lee Fortis was telling Indian team & head coach #GautamGambhir to stay 2.5 metres away from this pitch. But Brendon McCullum was allowed to chill right on the middle of the pitch.'

'Captaincy looks easy...': Shubman Gill won't stop after drawing first Test series as India captain against England

Shubman Gill is on cloud nine. And why wouldn't he be? The guy, all of 25 years old, was ridiculed, taunted and whatnot after being appointed India's Test captain in May. He did not have an overseas Test record to be proud of, and with no Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, it was almost as if India had been blanked 0-4 even before the start of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy. However, here we are, 45 days after the start of the series, with Gill standing tall with a 2-2 draw against England. Yes, the trophy might have been shared, but don't even for a solitary second, think that this is anything less than a win. Shubman Gill, take a bow!(PTI) Gill led from the front, scoring 754 runs at an incredible average of 75-plus and four centuries. Called out for his batting, his form, and his captaincy, Gill silences all his doubters and then some with a show for the ages. Defending 374, India were almost out of it when Joe Root and Harry Brook were going hammer and tongs, before a resurgent fightback from Gill, India, and its bowlers scripted a memorable win at The Oval. Siraj picked up a five-wicket haul to bowl England out for 354 and win the match by a narrow margin of six runs. And righty, Gill sported a confident look as he addressed the post-match presentation ceremony, once again, holding his calm. "The way both teams played was great. Came into the final days not knowing the result, showing both teams came with their A game. Captaincy looks easy when you have bowlers like Siraj and Prasidh like that. I think the way we responded today was magnificent. We were confident, even yesterday, we knew there under pressure. We wanted to make sure it stayed throughout," Gill said. "Siraj is a captain's dream. Gave it his all every ball and every spell he bowled. 2-2 is a fair reflection. It shows how passionate both teams were and how well they played. Very rewarding, my aim was to be the best batter this series and getting there is very satisfying. It's always a matter of sorting things out technically and mentally, they are correlated. Learnings from the last six week: We never give up." What a start to Shubman Gill's captaincy tenure Captaining in England is never easy, especially when you're an Indian captain. After all, there's a reason why India have not won a Test series in England since 2007 when Rahul Dravid ended a 21-year long wait. MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli had their opportunities, but the results were disappointing: a 0-4 loss in 2011, a 1-3 defeat in 2014, a 1-4 thrashing in 2018, and a 2-2 draw. Gill, in his debut as Test captain, achieved what took Kohli eight four years to accomplish and what Dhoni never fully managed.

India creates history at Oval, beats England by 6 runs to level series at 2-2

India creates history at Oval, beats England by 6 runs to level series at 2-2 New Delhi: As soon as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Gus Atkinson, the entire ground erupted in joy. Indian players rushed to Siraj, and Dhruv Jurel was the first to reach and hug him. Teammates came running from all directions — it was a celebration of a historic victory. Captain Shubman Gill also saluted the courage of opposition player Chris Woakes, who batted with one hand despite an injured shoulder and remained on the field. Woakes' one hand tucked inside his sweater and the bat in the other — this scene will be remembered forever in cricket history. India took a full victory lap at the Oval, and Siraj soaked in every moment with the ball in hand amid loud cheers and slogans from the crowd. On the very first ball of the 85th over — after more than 1000 deliveries in the series — he delivered a sensational yorker that crashed into the stumps. Atkinson tried to play it towards square but couldn't even connect. Siraj raised both arms and looked to the sky. This victory became a story of India's passion, spirit, and a remarkable comeback. The series ended in a 2-2 draw, but the story of this Test match will be remembered for years. Struggle of Indian Batters in the First Innings Winning the toss and opting to bat first, India managed 224 runs in their first innings. The start was poor, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (2) and KL Rahul (14) falling cheaply. Karun Nair top-scored with 57, while Sai Sudharsan added 38 and Ravindra Jadeja 31. For England, Gus Atkinson wreaked havoc with 5 wickets, and Josh Tongue chipped in with 3. England's First Innings – Siraj and Prasidh Shine In response, England were all out for 247. Zak Crawley scored 64 and Harry Brook 53, but Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna each took 4 wickets to ensure England didn't take a big lead. India's Comeback in the Second Innings Yashasvi Jaiswal led the way with a superb 118 in the second innings. Shubman Gill scored a captain's knock of 119, while Karun Nair (73) and Washington Sundar (53) provided vital support. This time, England's bowlers struggled to make an impact as India posted 396. England's Second Innings – Another Collapse Chasing 403, England started well. Joe Root (105) and Harry Brook (111) batted brilliantly, but Root's dismissal triggered a collapse. Gus Atkinson was the last man out, and England were bowled out for 367. Outstanding Performance by Indian Bowlers Mohammed Siraj took 5 wickets in the second innings and 9 in the match. Prasidh Krishna bagged 4 wickets and Akash Deep took 1. With this excellent bowling display, India clinched a memorable win by 6 runs, adding a thrilling chapter to Test cricket history.

'Jab mere saath haadsa hua…': Mohammed Siraj 'felt guilty' after dropping catch, downloaded 'believe' wallpaper on Day 5

Mohammed Siraj produced a spell for ages at the Oval with a five-wicket haul, which helped India register a sensational 6-run win and level the series 2-2. Siraj was right on the money on Day 5 when India was four wickets away from winning as he claimed three off them and rattled England's lower-batting order. However, it wasn't all hunky dory for Siraj in this match as on Day 4, he dropped the crucial catch of Harry Brook when he was batting on 19. Siraj stumbled to the boundary ropes after taking his catch off Prasidh Krishna. The English batter took advantage of the lifeline and counter-attacked the Indian pacers to score his century. Mohammed Siraj claimed a five-wicket haul to help India register a famous win at the Oval.(AP) After the disappointment of dropping a catch, the Indian pacer bounced back with grit, bowling his heart out to complete a fiery five-wicket haul. He talked about the catch-drop incident after guiding India to a famous win. "Jab mere saath haadsa hua, I thought the match had gone and slipped away. If he had got yesterday, the match would have looked completely different. I thought about it as it was a game-changing moment, but the way we fought back was commendable. When I woke up this morning, I said to myself, I will change the game and googled an emoji of 'believe' and put it on my wallpaper," Siraj told Cheteshwar Pujara after the match. 'Plan was to consistently hit…': Siraj Siraj set the tone early on Day 5, removing Jamie Smith in his very first over to put England under pressure. He followed it up by dismissing Jamie Overton, dealing a further blow to their hopes, and later outfoxed Gus Atkinson to wrap up the match and seal a memorable win for India. The 31-year-old also opened up about his plan and said he was quite clear that he would not try anything different but be consistent with his line and length, which paid off well for him and India. 'The plan was to consistently hit the line and length outside off-stump. I told myself not to try too much. If I had tried something different, the pressure on the opposition might have eased. So I focused on maintaining that consistent line and length,' he added. Siraj finished the series as the highest-wicket taker with 23 wickets in his kitty. He was proud of the way the Indian team fought hard in every match of the series, which went to Day 5. 'Hats off to everyone in the squad for the way we played throughout the series from Day 1. Every match went down to the final day, and the way we fought — it was just fun to be a part of,' he concluded.
