West Bengal district schools shine in State board exams, top ranks across categories

Several schools across West Bengal have emerged as beacons of academic excellence, with multiple students securing top ranks in the recently declared State board exam results for Class 10, Class 12, and High Madrasah examinations. The results, released by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE), West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE), and the West Bengal Board of Madrasah Education (WBBME) in the first week of May, have brought immense pride to these institutions.
'We are overjoyed with the results of the higher secondary examinations this year. We ensure that we monitor our students closely throughout the academic year, studying their strengths and weaknesses from a young age,' Bikash Chandra Ray, Principal of Arambagh High School in Hooghly, told The Hindu.
The school made a remarkable showing with three students featuring in the State's top 10 ranks for the WBCHSE Class 12 exams, securing third, fifth, and tenth positions. Mr. Ray added that another student, who missed the tenth rank by just one mark, has applied for a review. Arambagh High School, with a total of 233 higher secondary examinees from a student body of around 2,800, recorded an impressive overall pass percentage of 97.42%, with 28 students scoring above 90%.
'We believe in individual attention. We provide specialised classes when requested, and regularly engage with the students' guardians. We also make personal visits to students' homes if they need motivation or counseling,' Mr. Ray said, attributing the success to his school's holistic approach. The 164-year-old institution, under Mr. Ray's leadership since 2021, has consistently produced toppers in both the Madhyamik and Higher Secondary exams.
In Uttar Dinajpur, Raiganj Coronation High School, founded 114 years ago, also celebrated significant success in the Class 10 Madhyamik exams, with students securing the first and tenth ranks. Kalicharan Saha, the principal, credited the success to a combination of hard work and discipline. 'Our students are regular, diligent, and always listen to their teachers. Securing the first rank is a rare achievement, but our students have earned this through years of consistent effort,' said Mr. Saha.
Meanwhile, Narendrapur Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya in South 24 Parganas achieved a unique distinction by placing two students in the top 10 of the Class 10 Madhyamik examination and four in the Class 12 Higher Secondary merit list. Headmaster Swami Ishteshanada noted that this year's achievements were especially remarkable, as four students who topped the Class 12 exams had also been featured in the Class 10 merit list in 2023.
The four top scorers in the Class 12 exams included twin brothers who shared the ninth rank. They had secured the fourth and sixth ranks in the Class 10 exams last year, demonstrating the consistency and quality of education provided at the school. 'These results reflect the continuity in our educational approach, especially in classes 11 and 12, and I am confident that our toppers have very bright futures ahead,' Swami Ishteshanada said.
In Malda district, Bhagabanpur High Madrasah also made its mark, with four students from the school securing positions in the top 10 of the 2025 High Madrasah examination. Headmaster Badrul Islam expressed his delight at the results, especially as the school had initially expected only two of its students to secure top ranks. 'While much of the credit belongs to the students, our teachers played a crucial role in their success,' he said.
Islam emphasized the school's rigorous preparatory system, which includes remedial classes before board exams, and noted that many current toppers were following in the footsteps of elder siblings who had also topped the exams. The school, he added, has a legacy of producing toppers each year.
Other schools and madrasahs that have distinguished themselves in the 2025 board exams include Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Vidyamandir in Malda, Battala Adarsha High Madrasah in Malda, Nava Nalanda Santiniketan High School in Birbhum, Midnapore Collegiate School in Paschim Midnapore, and Manindra Nath High School in Coochbehar, along with Falakata High School in Alipurduar.
This year's board exam results highlight the dedication of both students and educators across West Bengal, with schools continuing to maintain a strong tradition of academic excellence.
