These 5 Stocks May Deliver Up To 25% Returns In The Short Term, Says Jefferies

Last Updated: Jefferies says these firms are strong in their sectors: one gains from infra push, another from telecom cost control, and the third from rising airport traffic and expansion In the midst of stock market fluctuations, a prominent global brokerage firm Jefferies has recommended three stocks poised for potential short-term gains of up to 25%. Announced on August 1, 2025, Jefferies cites robust foundations, strong profit margins, and future earning potential as key reasons for their selections, making them attractive options for investors. The three stocks are Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Bharti Airtel, and GMR Airports Infrastructure. Jefferies has set a target price for L&T at Rs 4,230, suggesting a potential increase of up to 24% from its current price. The firm highlights L&T's impressive performance in the June quarter, where its EBITDA exceeded expectations by 7% due to expedited project completion. The company's order book is at a record high, 33% more than the previous year, indicating the acquisition of substantial future projects. Jefferies predicts L&T's annual growth rate to be 10%, which bodes well for investors. For Bharti Airtel, Jefferies has set a target price of Rs 2,045.50, indicating a potential profit of up to 25%. According to the Financial Express, Airtel's earnings from its Indian business constitute over 90% of its total earnings. In 2025, the company's EBITDA margin improved by 210 basis points due to stringent control over network and sales expenses. Airtel's operational efficiency is reflected in its reduced fuel consumption per site and lower dealer commissions. The company's free cash flow surged by 54%, and its debt decreased by 12%, with most of the debt being in Indian currency, thereby minimising foreign currency risk. GMR Airports is the third stock, with a target price of Rs 103.70, suggesting a 12% growth potential. The company's EBITDA increased by 45% in the first quarter, driven by the implementation of a new tariff system at Delhi Airport and a recovery in air travel. Hyderabad Airport experienced a 17% increase in passenger traffic, particularly a 19% rise in domestic passengers. GMR is also exploring new ventures such as hotel development and cargo terminal management. Additionally, GMR now has full control over Delhi Duty-Free, which is expected to boost its earnings further. Which Stocks Also Got A BUY Rating? In addition to these recommendations, Jefferies has given a BUY rating to JSW Energy with a target price of Rs 700 per share, and to Swiggy with a target price of Rs 500 per share. Jefferies asserts that these companies are strong in their respective sectors: L&T will benefit from large infrastructure projects, Airtel from cost control in telecom, and GMR from the growing demand for airports. Blow to Bengaluru suburban rail as L&T cancels contract over land

BENGALURU: Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has terminated its contract for executing Corridors 2 and 4 of the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP), citing Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Ltd's (K-RIDE) 'failure' to provide sufficient encumbrance-free land for project execution. The move is expected to push the already delayed project even further as re-tendering will now be required. According to a letter to K-RIDE's managing director, accessed by TNIE, L&T stated that despite repeated assurances, K-RIDE had handed over only 8.28% of the encumbrance-free workfront since the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) was issued in August 2022. This limited handover, L&T said resulted in idle machinery, massive cost overruns and made it impossible to adhere to the original construction timelines. Following the termination, L&T submitted a closure report and moved the Commercial Court in Bengaluru on July 29. The court granted an interim injunction restraining K-RIDE from invoking L&T's bank guarantees. The contractor cited that without adequate land availability, continuing the project was unfeasible. L&T has also sought a compensation of approximately Rs 500 crore for Corridor 2 as mentioned in the letter and it is also learnt that the company has demanded around Rs 150 crore for Corridor 4 as compensation. The termination comes as a severe blow to BSRP, which has faced several delays since its sanction in October 2020. The sanctioned project originally had a six-year completion target. With L&T walking out, K-RIDE will now have to float fresh tenders for Corridors 2 and 4, a process that, according to sources, will take at least six months before work can resume. The development is likely to push the project well beyond its original deadline. Industry experts point out that re-tendering will not only delay execution but could also escalate project costs significantly. The managing director of K-RIDE was unavailable for comments.

AP clears 1,941-acre land pooling in Vizag region to boost ‘Bay City' expansion

VISAKHAPATNAM: In a significant move to support planned urban expansion, the State government has approved a large-scale land pooling initiative across Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Anakapalli districts. As per Government Order (GO) MS No. 146 dated July 30, 2025, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department has authorised the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) to implement a Land Pooling Scheme (LPS) covering 1,941.19 acres. The initiative aligns with the NITI Aayog's Growth Hub (G-Hub) strategy, which aims to position Visakhapatnam as the 'Bay City' or 'Miami of the East. Under the broader Visakhapatnam Economic Region (VER) plan, covering nine districts, the regional economy is projected to grow from $54 billion to $135 billion by 2032. Two key urban extensions — Vizag 2.0 (210 sq. km) and Vizag Bay City (40 sq. km) — will be developed as brownfield projects to accommodate future urban and economic growth in a structured and sustainable manner. To support these developments, the government is investing heavily in integrated infrastructure, including the Vizag Metro Rail project. Phases 1 and 2 of the metro, spanning 77 kilometres, are scheduled for completion between 2028 and 2030. This project will connect the IT corridors and Bhogapuram International Airport. The total investment in metro rail, roads, and urban infrastructure is estimated between Rs 4,000 and Rs 5,000 crore.
