Freight goes electric- A new era for Indian logistics
This 8-tonne vehicle, equipped with an indigenously developed electric powertrain kit from Kalyani Powertrain, can cover up to 250 kilometers on a single charge while carrying a full cargo load. This initiative marks a significant advancement in the decarbonisation of medium-haul freight transport, a segment that has historically lacked electric mobility solutions. According to project estimates, each truck will help avoid over 50 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, setting a precedent for the future of sustainable freight in India.
This launch represents yet another industry-first for APML. Following their pioneering work with double-decker 'FlexiDeck' containers for the chemical and allied industries, the company is now at the helm of long-haul electric trucking, establishing a benchmark for green logistics transformation.
The newly launched truck will initially operate on two key intercity routes: Chennai to Pune (1,321 km) and Pune to Halol (713 km).
To ensure efficiency and minimise downtime, fast DC charging stations have been installed at strategic partner depots along these corridors.
This event marks the first time a heavy-duty truck in India has been retrofitted with a fully electric powertrain and deployed on mid-range operational routes. These distances are traditionally considered too long for standard electric vehicles and too short to justify new electric fleet investments.
Speaking at the launch, Ramesh Agarwal of APML emphasised the environmental importance of such innovations. 'At APML, we believe that protecting the environment is a responsibility, not just an option or obligation. This electric truck initiative is not only a business decision; it reflects our commitment to a greener, cleaner India,' he stated.
The project validates EV retrofitting as a cost-effective, scalable, and low-risk approach to decarbonising India's freight sector. It sets an operational benchmark, complete with vehicle specifications, charging protocols, and performance metrics for logistics players and government bodies nationwide. This strategic collaboration among three industry leaders establishes a new standard in sustainable transportation.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman reveals which job roles will disappear soon — Is yours on the AI hit list?
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman painted a bold and an alarming vision of a future dominated by artificial intelligence, where some jobs disappear entirely, medical care is redefined, and AI becomes both a national asset and a potential weapon, as per a report. Sam Altman warns of AI-driven job loss During the Capital Framework for Large Banks conference at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, Altman didn't hold back, as he shared his prediction that AI systems like ChatGPT will soon eliminate entire job categories, starting with customer service, as per The Guardian report. Altman then highlighted about the involvement of AI in healthcare and even indicated that AI's diagnostic capabilities had surpassed human doctors, but wouldn't go so far as to accept the superior performer as the sole purveyor of healthcare, as reported by The Guardian. He pointed out that, 'ChatGPT today, by the way, most of the time, can give you better – it's like, a better diagnostician than most doctors in the world,' and then added that, 'Yet people still go to doctors, and I am not, like, maybe I'm a dinosaur here, but I really do not want to, like, entrust my medical fate to ChatGPT with no human doctor in the loop,' as quoted in the report. Donald Trump's "AI action plan" Altman's remarks came as the US president Donald Trump's administration unveiled its new 'AI action plan,' aimed at reducing regulatory burdens and accelerating AI infrastructure, such as building more data centers, according to The Guardian report. It marks a shift in tone from the former US president Joe Biden's administration, where Altman and other tech leaders actively called for stronger government regulation, as per the report. Under Trump, the message has become one of urgency and international rivalry, particularly with China, according to the report. FAQs Is my customer service job at risk? According to Altman, yes. He says AI can already handle those roles better and faster than humans. Can ChatGPT really diagnose illness better than doctors? Altman claims it often can, but he still wants a human doctor involved in his own care.

Trump to outline AI priorities amid tech battle with China
The Trump administration is set to release a new artificial intelligence blueprint on Wednesday that aims to relax American rules governing the industry at the center of a technological arms race between economic rivals the U.S. and China. President Donald Trump will mark the plan's release with a speech outlining the importance of winning an AI race that is increasingly seen as a defining feature of 21st-century geopolitics, with both China and the U.S. investing heavily in the industry to secure economic and military superiority. According to a summary seen by Reuters, the plan calls for the export of U.S. AI technology abroad and a crackdown on state laws deemed too restrictive to let it flourish, a marked departure from former President Joe Biden's "high fence" approach that limited global access to coveted AI chips. Top administration officials such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House National Economic Adviser Kevin Hassett are also expected to join the event titled "Winning the AI Race," organized by White House AI and crypto czar David Sacks and his co-hosts on the "All-In" podcast, according to an event schedule reviewed by Reuters. Trump may incorporate some of the plan's recommendations into executive orders that will be signed ahead of his speech, according to two sources familiar with the plans. Trump directed his administration in January to develop the plan. The event will be hosted by the Hill and Valley Forum, an informal supper club whose deep-pocketed members helped propel Trump's campaign and sketched out a road map for his AI policy long before he was elected. Trump is expected to take additional actions in the upcoming weeks that will help Big Tech secure the vast amounts of electricity it needs to power the energy-guzzling data centers needed for the rapid expansion of AI, Reuters previously reported. U.S. power demand is hitting record highs this year after nearly two decades of stagnation as AI and cloud computing data centers balloon in number and size across the country. The new AI plan will seek to bar federal AI funding from going to states with tough AI rules and ask the Federal Communications Commission to assess whether state laws conflict with its mandate, according to the summary. The Trump administration will also promote open-source and open-weight AI development and "export American AI technologies through full-stack deployment packages" and data center initiatives led by the Commerce Department, according to the summary. Trump is laser-focused on removing barriers to AI expansion, in stark contrast to Biden, who feared U.S. adversaries like China could harness AI chips produced by companies like Nvidia and AMD to supercharge its military and harm allies. Biden, who left office in January, imposed a raft of restrictions on U.S. exports of AI chips to China and other countries that it feared could divert the semiconductors to America's top global rival. Trump rescinded Biden's executive order aimed at promoting competition, protecting consumers and ensuring AI was not used for misinformation. He also rescinded Biden's so-called AI diffusion rule, which capped the amount of American AI computing capacity that some countries were allowed to obtain via U.S. AI chip imports. In May, Trump announced deals with the United Arab Emirates that gave the Gulf country expanded access to advanced artificial intelligence chips from the U.S. after previously facing restrictions over Washington's concerns that China could access the technology.
