West Indies likely without champion all-rounder for third ODI
The West Indies will likely be without the services of star all-rounder Hayley Matthews in the third ODI against England as she recovers from a left shoulder injury sustained on the tour.
Matthews went down in the field in the first ODI of the series last Friday in Derby, with the injury keeping her out of the second match in Leicester, as the hosts cruised to victory to claim the series with a match in hand.

Matthews has left the camp to see a specialist on Thursday.
"She's going to London tomorrow morning, so we'll know more then," West Indies Women's head coach Shane Deitz said after his side's defeat on Wednesday night.
"Hopefully we'll get some good news tomorrow."

Matthews absence was telling in the second ODI, as her side fell by 143 runs. The star all-rounder also claimed Player of the Series honours in the T20I leg of the tour in spite of a clean sweep defeat, and has been nominated for ICC Women's Player of the Month honours for May.

The tourists are hoping to welcome back Qiana Joseph for the final match in Taunton, having missed the second ODI.
"I was hoping she'd be okay today (for the second match), but she got on the team bus and looked terrible so we sent her back to bed," Deitz added.
"Hopefully she'll come good in a couple of days. She played really good the other day. She's getting better as time goes on in the team so fingers crossed.
"I'm pretty sure she'll be right for the next game."

Ange Postecoglou hailed a legend by captain Son Heung-min after Tottenham sacking
Tottenham Hotspur players have been lining up to praise Ange Postecoglou following the Australian's sacking as manager on Friday. Just over two weeks after leading Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years, the North London club announced that Postecoglou 's two-year reign was over after a disastrous Premier League campaign that saw them finish just one place outside the relegation zone. The 1-0 win Europa League final over Manchester United in Bilbao failed to save Postecoglou following a domestic season that saw them lose 22 of their 38 matches in what was their lowest top-flight finish since being relegated in 1977. Spurs lost 26 matches across all competitions in 2024-25, the most in a single campaign in the club's history. Spurs said in a statement that while they were 'extremely grateful to Ange for his commitment and contribution' but felt it was 'in the best interests of the club for a change to take place.' Since the news was announced, a number of Spurs players have took to social media praising the 59-year-old former Celtic and Australia national team coach, including captain Son Heung-min. 'Gaffer. You've changed the trajectory of this club,' the South Korean wrote on Instagram. 'You believed in yourself, and us, since day one and never wavered for a second. Even when others did. 'You knew what we were capable of all along. You did it your way. And your way brought this club the best night it's had in decades. We will have those memories for life. 'You trusted me with the captaincy. One of the highest honours of my career. It's been an incredible privilege to learn from your leadership up close, I am a better player and a better person because of you. 'Ange Postecoglou, you are a Tottenham Hotspur legend forever. Thank you, mate.' Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, Postecoglou's first signing at the club, said: 'You are not only a top manager, you are an incredible person to work for, a real leader, a mentor, and someone I'll always look up to. 'What we achieved together will stay in the history books. Wishing you nothing but success as I know you will go on to achieve more and more. Thank you, Boss.' Dutch defender Micky van de Ven added: 'Gaffer, thank you for everything! Believed in me from the first day I arrived at the club. 'Many ups and downs in the last two years but you kept believing in us and kept pushing us. Big part of the success from the club this year, and forever grateful that u made me part of it. All the best.' Striker Dominic Solanke, signed last summer in a £65 million move from Bournemouth, said: 'Thank you for bringing me to this wonderful club, thank you for bringing us a wonderful trophy. '[I] won't ever forget the convo we had before I signed and we achieved a dream! All the best in your next adventure. Postecoglou made a flying start to his reign by winning eight of his first 10 league game, propelling Spurs to the top of the table, although they could not maintain that momentum, eventually finishing fifth. The following season was ravaged by injuries which meant Postecoglou was regularly without 10 players throughout a packed December and January schedule where Tottenham lost eight of their 11 league fixtures. The Greek-born coach decided to focus all efforts on winning the Europa League which they managed, albeit in a match where Spurs managed a single shot on target, fulfilling his promise to deliver silverware in his second season. Brennan Johnson's scruffy first-half goal was enough to beat United (who finished 15th in the Premier League) in a match devoid of quality and excitement between the two lowest-placed teams ever to contest a European final. Postecoglou had insisted during a euphoric open-top bus parade in front of an estimated 220,000 people when he declared 'season three is better than season two', but chairman Daniel Levy had other ideas and has dismissed the man to deliver him a much-craved trophy. 'When I reflect on my time as manager of Tottenham Hotspur my overriding emotion is one of pride,' Postecoglou said, via a statement from his agency CAA Base. 'The opportunity to lead one of England's historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime.' He added: 'And finally, I want to thank those who were with me every day for the last two years. A fantastic group of young men who are now legends of this football club and the brilliant coaches who never once doubted we could do something special. 'We are forever connected. Audere est Facere. Ange.' Brentford manager Thomas Frank is reportedly leading the way as Postecoglou's potential replacement having led the Bees to promotion in 2021 and top-flight security since. Fellow Premier League coaches Andoni Iraola, at Bournemouth, Crystal Palace's FA Cup-winning manager Oliver Glasner and Marco Silva at Fulham are also thought to be in the running.

UAE captain Waseem, Tryon named ICC Players of the Month for May
The UAE batter Muhammad Waseem and South Africa all-rounder Chloe Tryon have been named as the ICC Men's and Women's Players of the Month for May 2025. Waseem wins the award for the second time after a string of good performances in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 and a home T20I series against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Tryon had a memorable tour of Sri Lanka as she scored 176 runs at a strike-rate of 131.34 in three ODIs and took six wickets in the three-team tournament in Colombo that also featured India. Tryon had scores of 67 (against India), 35 and 74 (against Sri Lanka) but the highlight was a haul of five for 34 against Sri Lanka which included a hat-trick. The West Indies captain Haley Matthews and India batter Jemimah Rodrigues were the others shortlisted for the monthly award this South Africa didn't enter the final of the ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka, Chloe had a productive month. Though South Africa had a 23-run loss to eventual champions India, Chloe was in fine nick to hit 67 off 43 balls, comprising four boundaries and five sixes, apart from recording figures of 1-46 and taking the prized wicket of Smriti Mandhana. But Chloe saved her best for last as she was at her dominant best for South Africa in their final tri-series game against hosts Sri Lanka. Batting first, Chloe smashed 74 off 51 deliveries, including four fours and five sixes, as South Africa posted a huge 315. Chloe followed it up by picking her maiden five-wicket-haul – 5-34 off her eight overs as she tore through the Sri Lanka batting order, including taking a stunning hat-trick and guiding South Africa to a 76-run victory at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. 'I am really happy with my five-wicket effort and the hat-trick. I was pretty tired most of the time, but I'm happy to have achieved that. You always want to add those milestones to your memories as a cricketer.' 'I'm glad I finally got to tick that off my list. It's still a bit of a blur, to be honest. I think the team carried me throughout that day. I was a little bit sick, so that didn't really help much. But everything came together, and I'm just really happy that I could perform and help the team win,' said Chloe in an ICC statement. The all-rounder is now aiming to build on a consistent set of performances from Sri Lanka when South Africa go on a white-ball tour of the West Indies, starting later this month, and later play the 2025 ODI World Cup in India. The 31-year-old scored 169 runs in five ODIs batting in the middle order and was the Player of the Series in the series against Bangladesh in Sharjah which his side won 2-1. He led the team in this T20I series and scored 54 and 82 in the first two matches opening the batting. Waseem, who also won the award in April 2024, edged all-rounders Brendon McMullen of Scotland and Milind Kumar of the United States. Mohammad Waseem said: 'I am delighted to win the ICC Player of the Month award for the second time. I want to thank the ICC and all the fans who voted for me. I also want to thank all my team members and support staff as this award is as much for them as it is for me. 'The month of May brought us a historic series win over Bangladesh in Sharjah. The victory indicates the growth of UAE cricket and the depth of talent in the country. The series was won due to a total team effort and what delighted me the most was the performance of the debutants and the youngsters in the squad who displayed incredible passion and heart. 'Our aim is now to continue our progress and not only compete but beat bigger teams and make our presence felt in major international events. I am sure that with the current lot of players, UAE cricket will continue to thrive and prosper. I would also want to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for their support and backing. 'At an individual level, my aim would be to work even harder, to stay consistent and to play according to the demands of modern day T20 game for the benefit of our team.'

Shock Ruling Court withdrawal as dominant Lambourn steals Epsom Derby thunder
In a dramatic late twist that transformed the 246th running of the Epsom Derby (G1) on Saturday, leading contender Ruling Court was withdrawn just hours before post time, handing the spotlight - and ultimately victory to Irish raider Lambourn, who made every yard of the running to claim British flat racing's most treasured prize. Godolphin's imperious 2000 Guineas winner and a colt many had pegged as a potential Derby hopeful;, was ruled out after persistent rain softened the ground to a level deemed unsuitable by his connections. Trainer Charlie Appleby made the difficult decision to scratch Ruling Court in consultation with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, the creator of Godolphin, prioritizing the colt's welfare over glory. Jockey William Buick, aiming for a third Derby triumph after Masar (2018) and Adayar (2021) was left devastated by the decision but stood firmly behind it. 'Of course, it's gutting to miss a ride like this,' Buick admitted. 'But when it comes to the horse's safety, you have to be clear-headed. The ground just wasn't right for him.' Royal Ascot Beckons With Ruling Court now rerouted to the prestigious St James's Palace Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot later this month, a wide-open Derby unfolded - but few could have predicted the sheer dominance of the eventual winner. Ridden with confidence and intent by Wayne Lordan, Lambourn burst from the gates and never looked back. The 43-year-old Irishman, making his fourth appearance in the race, produced a ride of utter conviction, guiding the son of 2014 Derby hero Australia to a resounding three and three-quarter lengths victory. Lambourn had been overlooked in the build-up to the iconic contest, with most eyes on favourite and stablemate Delacroix, the mount of Ryan Moore. But on Saturday, Lordan's judgement proved flawless as he dictated a steady but relentless gallop, stretching the field out early and holding a decisive lead. 'This is the race every jockey dreams of,' said an emotional Lordan at the finish. 'To win it like that, from the front, it's unbelievable. I've waited a long time for this.' Behind him, the 50/1 outsider Lazy Griff stayed on gamely for second, confirming the promise of his Chester Vase runner-up effort, while Tennessee Stud picked off rivals late to snatch third in a race where few could make ground from off the pace. O'Brien Continues Dominance For trainer Aidan O'Brien, it marked a staggering 11th Derby win - three of them coming consecutively - and added another jewel to a glittering Epsom weekend that also included victories in the Coronation Cup and the Oaks. O'Brien was quick to pay tribute to the winning rider and die-hard Coolmore team member. 'Wayne's been with us a long time. He's put in the graft year after year,' said O'Brien. 'He gave Lambourn a beautifully judged ride. It's days like this that make it all worthwhile.' Among the other notable performances, Tornado Alert 0 trained by Saeed bin Suroor, Godolphin's 1995 Derby-winning handler - ran a bold race under champion jockey Oisin Murphy to finish sixth, staying on strongly through the line in a field packed with quality. 'I was very pleased with the way Tornado Alert ran,' said bin Suroor. 'He showed real heart and handled the ground better than we thought he might. It was a very tough race, and he gave everything out there. I'm proud of him.' The Derby may have lost one of its headline acts in the morning, but by the end of the afternoon, a new star had been born.
