Texas Stars Goaltender Magnus Hellberg Signs Three-Year Deal With SHL's Djurgården IF
Hellberg had a 24-14-1 record with a .904 SP and 2.69 GAA with the Stars this season before posting a 3-3 record with a .921 SP and 2.36 AA in the Calder Cup Playoffs.

The 34-year-old formed a solid duo with Remi Poirier and backstopped Texas to the Western Conference Finals.
Originally a second round selection of the Nashville Predators in 2011, Hellberg appeared in 26 career NHL games with the Predators, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Ottawa Senators, and Pittsburgh Penguins.
In parts of eight AHL seasons Hellberg was a 2015 All-Star and racked up a 124-97-18 record, .912 SP, 2.55 GAA and 17 shutouts.
The Uppsala, SWE., native spent parts of five seasons in the KHL where he was a two-time All-Star.
Hellberg represented Sweden at the 2018 and 2022 Olympics and World Championships, winning the 2018 World Championship gold medal.

Turgeman will find a familiar face with the Revolution as he reunites with defender Ilay Feingold. Basketball at 2028 Los Angeles Olympics to tip off two days before opening ceremony
Basketball is going to get a head start at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. FIBA — the international basketball governing body that oversees Olympic basketball — announced this week that the revised schedule for the event has the first games on July 12, two days before the July 14 Opening Ceremonies. 'This adjustment allows the Quarter-Finals to be played over two days and will also ensure that no game will start earlier than 12:00 PM, enhancing the overall experience for players, teams, fans and broadcasters,' FIBA said in a statement announcing the change. What was not announced is whether this change impacts the men's or women's tournaments, or both. Those tournaments are made up of a dozen men's and women's teams — who qualify for the Olympics via results at the World Cup as well as qualifying tournaments — and those tournaments will run through the gold medal games on July 29 and 30 (July 30 is the final day of the Los Angeles Olympics). All the basketball games are scheduled to be played at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, the home of the Los Angeles Clippers. The USA is the defending gold medalists for both the men (who have won five Olympic golds in a row) and women (the eight-time Olympic defending champions).

Controversial US-born Chinese Olympic skier Eileen Gu suffers 'terrible accident' in training: report
Eileen Gu, the American-born skier who chose to represent China in the 2022 Olympics, was reportedly involved in a training accident in New Zealand last week. Bystanders at the Cardrona Alpine Resort in Cardrona told the South China Morning Post that Gu appeared to suffer serious injuries and needed to be taken to the hospital on a stretcher. Gu reportedly gave a health update on her Weibo account. "Unfortunately, a very terrible accident occurred yesterday due to human error," she wrote. "Hopefully I'll be back on the snow soon, but I'm still waiting for final confirmation from the expert team. "I have to concentrate fully during training, especially when I am preparing to start, as it's very dangerous to be interrupted. I also have to focus on picturing and imagining the moves while on the cable car. In order to save time, I don't have lunch breaks and try to use the bathroom as little as possible. So please don't record or take photos while I'm training." Gu won two gold medals and a silver at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. She sparked controversy on the Olympic stage as she decided to compete for China over Team USA. Her father is American but her mother is a first-generation Chinese immigrant. During the Games, she dodged questions about her citizenship after winning gold. Chinese state media has claimed that Gu became a Chinese national at the age of 15, according to Reuters. The government does not allow dual citizenship, meaning the California native would have had to give up her U.S. citizenship in order to do so. Gu estimated she's spent at least a quarter of her life in China. Her origin story, as she tells it, begins with the time she pitched the idea for China's first slopestyle ski event at age 9 — and won. She said in 2024 that she planned to represent China again in the 2026 Olympics.
