Rajasthan: Couple commits suicide after husband loses Rs 5 lakh on gaming app
KOTA: A married couple committed suicide, reportedly depressed over the husband losing around Rs 5 lakh while gambling online, police said on Monday.
Deepak Rathore and his wife were found hanging from ceiling fans in their house in Kheda Rampur village in the district on Monday morning, police said.
The couple reportedly purchased a nylon rope from a local market on Sunday night and hanged themselves after having dinner, police said.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dhaka said that when Deepak's father knocked on the door of their room on Monday morning, there was no answer.
When the door was broken open, the duo was found hanging inside.
Police said no suicide note was found in the room.
According to Deepak's family members, he had recently lost around Rs 5 lakh while gambling online and was depressed.
A couple of days ago, Deepak had spoken on the phone with his wife's elder sister and told her about his ordeal and that he had no other option but to end his life.
His sister-in-law urged him not to take any extreme steps and assured help, the family members said.
Meanwhile, DSP Dhaka said a probe has been launched to ascertain the cause behind the alleged suicide.
The bodies have been handed over to family members after a post-mortem, he added.

BENGALURU: Struggling to come to terms with the tragedy that has struck them, the families of the victims of the stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium have one question: "Who gave permission for the entire victory celebrations that claimed our loved ones?" Ashwini UL, mother of one of the stampede victims, Divyanshi, asked: "My first question to the govt is who wanted this function? What was the need for arranging the felicitation function in front of Vidhana Soudha or announcing the roadshow and organising a victory celebration function in the stadium on June 4 when the entire city celebrated the victory overnight till the early hours? Why didn't the authorities make arrangements before inviting fans?" Not just Ashwini, the families of the 10 others who died in the stampede are searching for similar answers. Though chief minister Siddaramaiah has blamed police and maintained that nothing untoward happened during the felicitation attended by him in front of Vidhana Soudha, the families aren't convinced. "How can he say this? Isn't the stadium near Vidhana Soudha and didn't he know that fans will throng the stadium, barely 800 metres from Vidhana Soudha? SUV rams police van on Delhi-Mumbai eway, home guard falls 10ft from flyover
Faridabad: An SUV driven by a teenager trainee pilot crashed into a police interceptor van parked along Delhi-Mumbai expressway, sending a home guard plummeting from a flyover to a road 10ft below near Badauli village on Sunday morning. The accident occurred at 7.45am when a black Mahindra Scorpio, driven by 19-year-old Kritika, struck the stationary police van in which two cops — both named Deepak — were monitoring speeds of other vehicles. The impact sent the police interceptor (HR51GV-8574) crashing into the flyover's boundary wall, causing home guard Deepak to fall onto the road below. While one constable was inside the van, the home guard was standing outside to monitor traffic speeds. Deepak, the home guard, suffered grievous head injuries and is undergoing treatment in the ICU of Sarvodaya hospital. The traffic constable was discharged after treatment. Both cops are around 25 years old. Kritika, who was travelling with three friends from Sector 12, was headed for the district court area to have noodles. "The Scorpio would have been cruising at 150kmph easily. The woman, who was behind the wheel, seemed to have panicked a little after seeing the police van and failed to slam the brakes in time. So, the black SUV crashed into the van at high speed," said Munim Chand, who was passing by. "We usually have cops here monitoring vehicle speeds. Such accidents are rare," Munim added. Tyre marks at the scene indicated a failed attempt at emergency braking. The Scorpio was severely damaged on the left side, but the occupants escaped with minor injuries because of airbags. The crash drew crowds and prompted immediate responses from emergency teams, BPTP police station personnel, and traffic cops. Authorities used a crane to clear both the damaged vehicles and restore normal traffic flow. The driver was taken into custody and released on bail later. "We've registered a case against the driver, who is pursuing pilot training after completing Class 12," said Arvind, the SHO of BPTP police station. An FIR was registered against her at BPTP police station under BNS sections for rash driving, endangering life, causing grievous hurt, and obstructing public servants from performing their duties.
