Co-op issues new 'thank you' reward for shoppers after cyber attack
Co-op has issued a new 'thank you' discount for members of its loyalty scheme following the cyber attack which saw customer data stolen.
The UK convenience store chain confirmed last month it had been the victim of a cyber attack, which saw part of its IT system taken down and some shelves left empty.
In a new update, Co-op confirmed its 2,300 food stores have returned to usual trading and has launched a new offer to its loyalty scheme members, with 25% off a shop when they spend £40 or more.
This deal, which is running for one week from June 18, is also available to new members that join Co-op. It costs £1 to become a Co-op member.
Matt Hood, Managing Director, Co-op Food, said: 'I'm very proud that, thanks to the work of our colleagues, we are very near to making a full and complete recovery from the recent cyber attack on our Co-op, and I'm delighted to see our stores looking back to normal and being able to serve our shoppers and communities.
'We are so grateful to our member owners for their support and patience with us during what was a very difficult time and hope this gesture of appreciation goes a little way to showing them our thanks, with more value rewards to come over the summer.
'Co-op stores are now full of summer products, providing great value and good quality food and drink, so there is lots to choose from for our members to use the thank you offer.
'Our Co-op is a special business, 180 years old, with people, community and a sense of purpose at its heart, and our member owners are our backbone, giving us the focus to ensure we continue to run the best small shops in the UK.'
It comes after Marks and Spencer reopened its website to shoppers following a separate cyber attack.
In a statement published on social media, M&S managing director of clothing, home and beauty John Lyttle said: 'More of our fashion, home and beauty products will be added every day, and we will resume deliveries to Northern Ireland and Click and Collect in the coming weeks.
'Thank you sincerely for your support and for shopping with us.'
M&S halted orders on its website over the Easter weekend, and was also left with empty shelves after being targeted by hackers. Customer personal data was also taken by hackers in the attack.
M&S revealed last month that the hack was caused by 'human error' and would cost it around £300million. Chief executive Stuart Machin said on reporting annual figures in May that hackers gained access to the company's IT systems through a third party.

Wall St mixed, chip majors wobble after China sales deal
Aug 11 (Reuters) - Wall Street's main indexes were choppy on Monday as investors prepared for a busy week and chip companies seesawed after agreeing to share a portion of revenue from China sales with the U.S. under a trade policy shift from the Trump administration. Nvidia (NVDA.O), opens new tab and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.O), opens new tab reversed premarket losses and were last up 0.2% and 2.6%, respectively, in volatile trading. A U.S. official told Reuters the semiconductor majors had agreed to give the United States government 15% of revenue from sales of their advanced chips to China. Analysts said the levy could hit the chipmakers' margins and set a precedent for Washington to tax critical U.S. exports, potentially extending beyond semiconductors. "A lot of people are not sure what to make of that because this is the first time in history that it's ever happened where an administration wants a percentage of the profits from a publicly traded company," said Michael Matousek, head trader at U.S. Global Investors Inc. Enabling semiconductor sales to China was an integral issue in the agreement Washington and Beijing signed earlier this year, which expires on Tuesday. U.S. President Donald Trump lauded China's cooperation in talks at a White House news conference earlier on Monday. At 11:59 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI), opens new tab fell 91.43 points, or 0.21%, to 44,084.19, the S&P 500 (.SPX), opens new tab gained 6.87 points, or 0.11%, to 6,396.39, and the Nasdaq Composite (.IXIC), opens new tab rose 60.17 points, or 0.28%, to 21,510.19. Six of the 11 major S&P 500 sectors slipped, while healthcare (.SPXHC), opens new tab gained 0.4%, recovering some of the 5% declines it had logged so far this year. Traders took a step back after last week's rally helped the S&P 500 (.SPX), opens new tab and the Nasdaq (.IXIC), opens new tab log their strongest weekly performance in more than a month. On Monday, the tech-heavy Nasdaq was on track for its third consecutive record closing high, if gains hold. Investors expect that the recent shakeup at the U.S. Federal Reserve and signs of labor market weakness could nudge the central bank into adopting a dovish monetary policy stance later this year, fueling much of the optimism. July's consumer inflation report is due on Tuesday and investors currently anticipate that the Fed will lower borrowing costs by about 60 basis points by December, according to data compiled by LSEG. Citigroup and UBS Global Research became the latest brokerages to raise their year-end targets for the benchmark S&P 500. Micron Technology (MU.O), opens new tab raised its forecast for fourth-quarter revenue and adjusted profit, sending its shares rising 3%. Intel (INTC.O), opens new tab was up 5.4% after a report said CEO Lip-Bu Tan was expected to visit the White House. Trump had called for his removal last week. TKO (TKO.N), opens new tab jumped 7.5% after Paramount (PSKY.O), opens new tab bought the rights from the live entertainment company to exclusively distribute UFC events for the next seven years in a deal valued at around $7.7 billion. Trump is expected to meet Russia's President Vladimir Putin on Friday to try and negotiate an end to the war on Ukraine. Declining issues outnumbered advancers by a 1-to-1 ratio on the NYSE. Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by a 1.05-to-1 ratio on the Nasdaq. The S&P 500 posted 13 new 52-week highs and 14 new lows, while the Nasdaq Composite recorded 60 new highs and 82 new lows.

Citigroup, UBS lift S&P 500 year-end targets echoing Wall Street peers
Aug 11 (Reuters) - Citigroup and UBS Global Research became the latest Wall Street brokerages to raise their year-end targets for the S&P 500 (.SPX), opens new tab index, pointing to receding policy risks and resilient corporate earnings. Citi bumped the benchmark index's target to 6,600 from 6,300 and UBS to 6,100 from 5,500, implying an upside of 3.2% and a downside of 4.7% respectively to the index's last close. This marks Citigroup's second upward revision in just two months. UBS, however, had trimmed its target in April after President Donald Trump's 'Liberation Day' tariffs. The moves follow similar upgrades from major brokerages including HSBC, Goldman Sachs and BofA Global Research. Oppenheimer Asset Management sees the index climbing as high as 7,100, the highest on Wall Street. Jefferies is the only brokerage to set a target lower than 6,000 at 5,600. UBS expects a short-term dip in the market, it said in a note on Monday, with the index correcting to 5,900 around late third quarter before recovering to 6,100 by the end of 2025 and 6,800 by the end of 2026. Citi analysts said in a note late on Friday that the expected fundamental drag from U.S. tariffs has been mostly modeled at this point and that tax benefits from Trump's spending bill should improve corporate earnings. The bill, signed into law on July 4, 2025, delivers sweeping corporate tax relief. Since bottoming on April 8 after Trump's 'Liberation Day' tariffs, the benchmark index has rebounded 32.2%, reaching new highs in July as robust Big Tech earnings revived investor confidence in the AI-driven rally. Citi said impressive earnings from the "Magnificent Seven" tech companies have anchored the rise of the index. The rest of the index is starting to strengthen more broadly, it said.

Major bank with 2.5million customers making changes to 36 accounts within days
The Co-operative Bank is cutting is making a shocking changes to 36 savings accounts, leaving customers for the worst as they deliver a fresh blow to savers with altered interest rates A major bank with millions of customers is set to make a significant change to dozens of accounts in the coming days. The Co-operative Bank is slashing interest rates on 36 savings accounts, dealing another blow to savers. This move comes hot on the heels of the Bank of England's decision to lower the base rate from 4.25% to 4%, marking the fifth such cut since 2020. While this means lower mortgage payments for homeowners, it often results in smaller returns for savers. This is because the base rate influences the interest rates banks offer on savings accounts and loans, including mortgages. It comes after news that Nationwide will pay bonus £760 into accounts of customers who do one thing. The Co-operative Bank has acted swiftly, announcing that interest rates on dozens of accounts will be reduced starting on August 14 and October 22. On August 14, the Base Rate Tracker accounts will see reductions, with interest rates dropping from 4% to 3.75% and from 3.75% to 3.5%. For instance, if you had £1,000 deposited for 12 months, the interest earned at 4% would have been £40. After the rate drops to 3.75%, you would earn £37.50 - a difference of £2.50. Similarly, with the rate falling from 3.75% to 3.5%, the interest earned would decrease from £37.50 to £35, meaning £2.50 less over the year, reports the Sun From October 22, various other accounts will experience cuts, including the Future Fund, which will see its rate fall from 1.53% to 1.46%, and the Online Saver, dropping from 2.12% to 2.06%. Other accounts affected include the Smart Saver, Select Access Saver 5, and Privilege Premier Savings, with reductions ranging from 4.15% to 3.9% and 3.53% to 3.4%. Cash ISA holders will also feel the pinch, with Cash ISA 2 rates dropping from 3.25% to 3%. However, there's a silver lining as several savings providers still offer returns of up to 5%. With the average bank customer holding around £10,000 in savings, according to Raisin, switching could be a wise decision. To assist you in getting the best returns, we've compiled a list of the top savings rates for each account type below. Other savings accounts An easy-access savings account usually allows for unlimited cash withdrawals. The top rate easy access savings account currently available is from Cahoot, which offers a 5% return - and you only need to deposit a minimum of £1 to set it up. This means that if you were to save £1,000 in this account, you would earn £50 a year in interest. Meanwhile, West Brom Building Society's easy access account offers customers 4.55% back on savings worth £1 or more. Provider Cahoot is offering an interest of 5.00 percent with a minimum investment of £1, paid on the anniversary. Chase* also offers 5.00 percent interest with a minimum investment of £1, paid monthly. Another offer from Cahoot provides 4.55 percent interest with a minimum investment of £1, paid on the anniversary. West Brom BS offers 4.55 percent interest with a minimum investment of £1, paid yearly. Revolut offers 4.50 percent interest with a minimum investment of £1, paid daily. Cynergy Bank and Principality BS both offer 4.45 percent interest with a minimum investment of £1, paid on the anniversary and yearly respectively. Kent Reliance offers 4.41 percent interest with a minimum investment of £1, paid on the anniversary. Chase includes a 2.25 percent 12-month bonus for new customers only. Another option is a notice savings account. These accounts offer better rates than easy-access accounts but still let you access your money more flexibly than a fixed-bond. RCI Bank UK's 95-day notice account offers savers 4.7% back with a minimum £1,000 deposit. This means that if you were to save £1,000 in this account, you would earn £47 a year in interest. Meanwhile, GB Bank's 120-day notice account offers 4.58%, requiring a minimum deposit of £1,000. If you want to build a habit of saving a set amount of money each month, a regular savings account could pay you dividends. Principality Building Society's Six Month Regular Saver offers 7.5% interest on savings. It allows customers to save between £1 and £200 a month. Save the maximum, and you'll earn £25.81 in interest. There are also regular savings accounts where the amount you can save into the account each month is limited, typically to somewhere between £200 and £500. These accounts offer better rates than easy-access accounts but still let you access your money more flexibly than a fixed-bond. For instance, RCI Bank UK's 95 day notice account offers savers 4.7% back with a minimum £1,000 deposit. This means that if you were to save £1,000 in this account, you would earn £47 a year in interest. Meanwhile, GB Bank's 120-day notice account offers 4.58%, requiring a minimum deposit of £1,000.
