Board chief officer Shivkumar Awalkanthe said.
MHADA authorities on Monday organised a
Janata Durbar
(people's court/assembly) on Monday, similar to Lok Shahi Din, during which residents approached the office for solutions to their grievances.
"Citizens settled their dues and are residing in MHADA built houses for a long time, but even today they lack the ownership title that prevents them from taking any benefit of the structures.
People should form societies at the earliest," said Awalkanthe.
He said, the housing body has been working for many years to provide
affordable housing
to people from lower and middle-income groups. It has been constructing houses in Nashik city, adjoining towns and Malegaon since 1967. "Residents of these colonies will someday want to sell their properties, transfer them to their heirs or even go for redevelopment, but the lack of formation of societies will not allow them to proceed with their ideas, the officer said.
There are over 10,000 beneficiaries of MHADA in Nashik district alone. Awalkanthe pointed out that MHADA has been organising Janata Durbar at its office on the first Monday of every month and appealed to residents of MHADA colonies to approach the office with their grievances that will be resolved by the body.
Another senior officer noted that the major reason for the non-formation of societies was the lack of interest among people and differing views.
"Though this is true, people will have to come together in the interest of their family and heirs," said the officer.

He said this while responding to a question raised by NCP legislator Rohit Pawar and others in the state Assembly. DyCM Shinde further stated that the government issued a government resolution on March 15, 2024, for making available homes to the workers from closed and sick textile mills from Mumbai in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The government has assured that homes in the MMR region will not only be affordable but will also be equipped with essential facilities to ensure a dignified living for mill workers. He said that so far, 15,870 homes have been distributed to textile mill workers -- 6,925 in 2012; 2,634 in 2016; 2,417 in 2016, and 3,894 in 2020. He said that two developers have been selected after the expression of interest was issued, following the consent of the high-power committee for the construction of homes. The online forms are being filled up by the textile mill workers from June 16 for homes, and so far, 2,094 textile mill workers have submitted online applications. The Deputy CM said the urban development department has initiated a process for the redevelopment of 11 chawls situated on the lands of nine mills of National Textile Corporation. Earlier, Dy CM Shinde announced that one lakh homes will be constructed for mill workers. He instructed the officials that in order to implement the ambitious 'Houses for All' scheme, the state's new housing policy should focus on affordable, sustainable and environmental-friendly houses. He instructed the officials to prepare a detailed policy within a month so that citizens could easily benefit from the schemes of MHADA and the housing department and speed up the stalled redevelopment projects in the city.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath assures fee waiver to Class 7 girl, RSS-run school refuses: ‘No such provision'
After a Class 7 student appealed to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath for a fee waiver, he assured her support — paving the way for her dream of becoming an IAS officer. UP CM Adityanath had assured the girl that she would not face obstacles in her education.(PTI) 'Either your fees will be waived, or we will arrange the amount,' Adityanath told the student, news agency PTI reported. However, despite the chief minister's assurance that the girl would face no obstacles in her education, the school management refused to pardon her fees, according to an NDTV report. The school is run by RSS's education wing Vidya Bharati, and charges a monthly fee of ₹1,650 for Class 7, reported NDTV. Pankhuri has outstanding dues of about ₹18,000. The student, Pankhuri Tripathi, said the school told her that there was no such provision. "I had gone to the chief minister with a fee pardon request. He gave me a chocolate and assured me that it would be done. But when I went to school with my father, they misbehaved with us," Pankhuri said. She added that the school management had told them that if more people asked for such waivers, the institution would not be able to function. 'They said they have to pay teachers,' Pankuri said, as per NDTV. Pankhuri's father, Rajiv Kumar Tripathi, had suffered a leg injury, following which he lost his job. 'When I was at home during the pandemic, I slipped off the terrace and suffered a leg injury. I lost my job,' Rajiv said. He said both his children study in English-medium schools, with his son currently in Class 12. Pankhuri was not able to attend school after February given the family's difficulty in paying the fees. 'It is my son's last year in school, so I did not want to disrupt his education. I thought of taking my daughter out of school for a year,' NDTV quoted Rajiv as saying. However, Rajiv then had the idea of attending the CM's Janata Durbar on July 1, during which Adityanath directed officials to ensure that Pankhuri's education is not affected. However, when Rajiv took his daughter to the school, the management 'misbehaved' with them, saying there was no such provision for a pardon. 'Truth behind BJP's slogan': Akhilesh Yadav's jibe at UP CM Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took a jibe at the BJP and CM Adityanath, saying this was the 'truth behind BJP's slogan'. 'Those who are busy hoarding, how will they waive or pay someone's fees?,' Yadav said in a post on X. The SP chief also promised that Pankhuri's education would not stop. 'This is the truth of the BJP's fake slogans of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'. We urge the BJP not to lie to children,' he said. However, Pankhuri's family has rested their hopes on the UP CM, with Rajiv Tripathi saying, '…We are associated with the Math and Maharaj ji (Yogi Adityanath) and we believe he will ensure my daughter's education.'

MHADA appoints Keystone Realtors to redevelop Sindhi refugee families' residences at Mumbai's GTB Nagar
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has appointed Keystone Realtors under the Rustomjee Group as the agency for redeveloping 20 residential buildings at GTB Nagar in Mumbai's Sion Koliwada to house Sindhi refugee families who migrated to India during the Partition and their descendants. MHADA Vice-President and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal transferred the Letter of Intent (LOI) to the realtor on Monday, paving the way for the construction of new buildings on 11.20 acres. Around 1,200 Sindhi families had to shift to temporary accommodation in 2020 after the apartments, which were built in 1958, were declared unsafe by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The buildings were subsequently demolished, and the Maharashtra government approved a redevelopment scheme after repeated pleas by tenant societies, although the land is in private ownership. As per the redevelopment proposal, all 1,200 eligible families will be given a free flat of 635 square feet, with MHADA paying Rs 20,000 monthly rent until they get their possession and pay maintenance expenses for five years after redevelopment. The State Cabinet cleared the proposal on February 14, 2024, and a resolution was issued on February 23, 2024, authorising MHADA to be the Special Planning Authority. 'It is for the first time that MHADA is redeveloping on private land as a chosen development agency. A 5-7 member committee of society representatives would be constituted to oversee the project and MHADA will give complete support so that the rehabilitation is done on time,' Jaiswal said, adding that the project shall be carried out under the Development Control and Promotion Regulations (DCPR) Regulation 33(9). The scheme permits a minimum Floor Space Index (FSI) of 4.5, including a fungible area. MHADA will get 25,700 square metres of the built-up area as housing stock. According to MHADA officials, legal actions in the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court had delayed the project. A final ruling by the Supreme Court in 2024 permitted MHADA to go ahead, establishing a precedent for such future redevelopments. Upon approval from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in February last year, MHADA moved on the orders to bring the project on track. The redevelopment scheme is based on the current redevelopment of BDD Chawl in Mumbai, officials said.
