The Chi Scores Its Most-Streamed Premiere Ever, 7 Seasons In
The renewal comes a day after the network announced that The Chi's Season 7 opener drew two million cross-platform viewers, making it the most-streamed season premiere in the series' history — up +2% versus last season.
'Following record-breaking viewership, we're thrilled to announce The Chi has been renewed for Season 8, joining the ranks of Showtime's most iconic series like Homeland and Dexter,' Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, said via statement. 'Thanks to [series creator] Lena Waithe and her incredible team, our talented cast and crew, and devoted fans—the South Side story continues!'
The show opened its Season 8 writers' room in February, months before Season 7 premiered.
The Chi is a coming-of-age story about a group of residents on the South Side of Chicago who become 'linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption.'
The ensemble cast includes Jacob Latimore (as Emmett), Lynn Whitfield (Alicia), Yolonda Ross (Jada), Shamon Brown Jr. (Papa), Michael V. Epps (Jake), Birgundi Baker (Kiesha) and Luke James (Trig).

PFT Live returns for another season on Monday

We're back. baby. On Monday, the six-week hiatus is over. PFT Live returns. Yeah, I did 28 episodes of #PFTPM during the 'break.' But that was solo. Chris Simms returns for the full, two-hour adventure. We'll be in our usual habitats on Monday and Tuesday. For Wednesday and Thursday, we'll be in Canton, in advance of NBC's coverage of the Hall of Fame game. PFT Live has been around, in one form or another, since January 2011. The two-hour, Simms-as-the-primary-co-host version enters its ninth season. Our primary locations are Peacock (live and on-demand) and SiriusXM 85. Also, the show will be televised on SkySports Mix on Monday at 6:00 p.m. UK/Ireland time. (I'm not sue how long that will last. I am sure I'll be asked that question many times in the coming days and weeks via email.) Beyond the primary channels for consuming the show, every episode is available as a podcast, and select clips land on YouTube and/or as videos tied to PFT posts. Thanks for reading the content here. Thanks for taking in the #PFTPM non-vacation vacation content. And thanks for checking us out as we return with PFT Live on Monday morning.

‘Bend It Like Beckham 2' Is Reportedly ‘In the Works'

Lace up your cleats, fans! This week, writer and director Gurinder Chadha announced she is working on a sequel to the hit soccer film Bend It Like Beckham, released in 2002 and starring Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley. 'I'm excited to revisit the original characters and revive the enduring story and build on the legacy we helped to create for the women's game,' Chadha told Deadline in an interview. Here's everything we know about the project so far. In the original film, Nagra plays a teen girl named Jasminder who loves both soccer and Manchester United's David Beckham. Unfortunately, her parents are very unenthusiastic about her engaging in sports. She ends up joining a girls's soccer team in secret, where she meets Jules, played by Knightley. There, she discovers just how great she can be while also learning to navigate first romances and friendship. Her success ultimately brings her closer to her family in an uplifting story about following your dreams. Since it's 23 years later, everyone would obviously be in a new time in their lives. Chadha says a sequel will also address the changes in women's sports. 'I didn't want to do anything because I didn't have a story,' she said of the time gap since the first film. 'And then I came up with a great story, really super-cool story. So now I'm inspired. Literally came up with it just about a month ago. It's my very clear wish to bring the characters back very, very soon. Women's football is more competitive, more exciting, and more global than ever. It is an honor for me to be a small part of it.' She wrote the original screenplay with Guljit Bindra and husband Paul Mayeda Berges. Aside from Nagra and Knightley, fans would expect the return of Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the Hounslow Harriers team manager and Jasminder's love interest. But so far, no one is officially confirmed. Chadha stated that Nagra, Knightley, as well as cast members Archie Panjabi and Juliet Stevenson 'are aware that a sequel is being developed, but they obviously want to see a script before they commit.' 'I'm pretty certain that everyone's going to want to come back,' she added. 'Everything hinges on the script and if the original cast likes it. I am working really hard to make sure every character I bring back has a decent arc and scenes.' The goal for Chadha is to have the sequel out by 2027 for the original film's 25th anniversary, which will coincide with the FIFA Women's World Cup tournament in Brazil that year. This post will be updated.

Selena Gomez Reveals Her Surprising Dream Wedding Dessert for Upcoming Ceremony

THE RUNDOWN Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco got engaged in December 2024, but not yet revealed their wedding plan. Fans have been wanting to know more details about the upcoming event, and the Only Murder in the Building star finally shared some this week. On her Rare Beauty brand's TikTok account, Gomez shared some of her thoughts on the reception, saying she had some ideas for the dessert. Traditionally, a big wedding cake is expected, but Gomez has other dreams. 'My preferred dessert would be biscuits and gravy,' she shared. 'My Nana's biscuits and gravy. That sounds like dessert to me.' She also explained, 'Whenever that day comes, I do know I don't want a big cake. I think I'd want a mini one, for just us, that we can freeze.' Gomez previously discussed the first dance between the bride and groom on an episode of Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware, saying she was probably going to skip it. 'I don't think we're looking at having one of those 'cause they're a little—I feel embarrassed,' she said. But she was hoping to be escorted down the aisle by her grandfather. 'He never got a chance to walk my mom down the aisle,' she explained. 'I wanted to give [my grandfather] the opportunity to have that.' In July, Blanco discussed how planning is going on Jake Shane's podcast, Therapuss. The music producer said that they have both been so busy since the release of their album, I Said I Love You First. 'That's why we both need to chill,' Blanco explained. 'We've both been working so much. We got engaged, and then we were filming music videos for our album. Then it's holidays, then right after the holidays, we had to start all the promo for our stuff, do that. Then she left to film her show Only Murders [in the Building] and then I met her, then we hung out for a week, and then right after that, it's promo. And then I'm writing another book, so then I had to write a book, and then she came back for one day here. And then it was my birthday, and you know.' He continued, 'We're both working on so many things that we hadn't even had time to get into it, but we're so excited. I think this summer we're going to sit down and be like, 'Okay, what are we doing, hun?''
