Additionally, verify that the rubber is in good nick and that your tyre pressure matches the correct PSI.

Ensure your brake fluid levels are up to scratch before hitting the road. If you suspect they might be faulty, get in touch with your local garage or service centre for help before setting off, reports the Express.
If you're planning a full-blown road trip and towing a caravan or trailer, it's vital to confirm your car has the appropriate towing capacity.
Knowing your route is equally important. Familiarise yourself with the journey and local roads, and keep a close watch on your clutch.
If your vehicle has clocked between 50,000 and 100,000 miles, it's high time to have your clutch inspected to prevent any unexpected breakdowns.
This is particularly crucial if you frequently drive in hilly terrains.
Extreme heat can also wreak havoc on your car battery. If you're aware that your battery is getting on in years, it would be wise to replace it ahead of any lengthy trips.
A replacement every three years is generally advised, and Hayes suggests avoiding numerous short drives during the summer, especially with multiple devices plugged in as this could deplete your battery at a much faster rate.
In hot weather, it's recommended to check your car battery roughly once a week, particularly if it's around three years old.

Two Scottish beaches named among Europe's top dog friendly spots
New research has ranked dozens of beaches across the continent on their dog-friendliness. Scottish dog owners looking to plan a beach holiday with their four-legged friends may not need to travel far, as two Scottish beaches have been named among the best dog-friendly spots in Europe. New research by CV Villas ranked 130 beaches across the continent on their dog-friendliness, with Sandhead Beach in Dumfries and Galloway and Irvine Beach in Ayrshire both earning a spot in the top 20. The UK performed particularly well, with eight beaches making the final list, followed by France with three. And that included top spot. As many popular European destinations place seasonal restrictions on dogs, especially during peak summer months, finding suitable options can be a challenge. The CV Villas study factored in average annual temperature, terrain and beach size to calculate a unique Dog-Friendly Beach Score out of 100. Taking the top spot for 2025 was Plage de la Salie in La Teste-de-Buch, France. According to CV Villas, the top-rated beaches, including those in the UK, generally welcome dogs all year round, with only minor leash restrictions during busier months. Among the standout Scottish spots is Sandhead Beach, a hidden gem located on the Luce Bay coast of the Rhins of Galloway, around seven miles south of Stranraer. Known for its stunning white sands and peaceful setting, Sandhead offers three miles of beach at low tide, making it ideal for long dog walks, picnics and safe bathing. The village of Sandhead, once a coastal hub for landing lime and coal, is now a peaceful getaway with a small shop, hotel, and several caravan parks that cater to holidaymakers. Its proximity to the Kirkmadrine Stones, dating back to the 5th or 6th century, also offers history lovers something to explore nearby. The beach at Sandhead is widely regarded as the finest in the Stranraer area and is a favourite for those staying at the nearby Sands of Luce. Whether it's swimming, fishing or simply strolling along the shore, it provides a scenic backdrop for a relaxing seaside escape. Irvine Beach, meanwhile, is a well-loved destination for both locals and tourists. Situated along the Ayrshire coast, the beach boasts a long stretch of golden sand with panoramic views across the Firth of Clyde to the Isle of Arran. The bay itself forms part of a 14-mile stretch of coastline and features safe bathing areas, making it perfect for family visits. The area surrounding the beach includes a beach park, boating lake, play zones, picnic areas, and walking and cycling paths. Irvine Beach is also split by the River Irvine and has a reputation as a year-round destination for dog walkers and day-trippers alike. With its sweeping sands and relaxed atmosphere, it offers plenty of space for dogs to roam freely and burn off energy. Best beach in the world with 'whitest sand' is 'paradise' for travellers
It has been named the best beach in the world for those looking to enjoy the warm weather and relax on the white sands, according to a new study Many Brits love to escape the dreary weather for a day by the sea. Perhaps it's the golden sand, crystal clear water or simply the warmer climate that draws you in. Well, Luxury holiday company CV Villas has conducted research to find out which beaches boast the whitest sand in the world. Let's be honest, nothing screams 'perfect beach' more than pristine white sand. The study analysed Google Maps images of approximately 200 beaches, examining the colour of each shoreline to determine the results. Unsurprisingly, the beach with the whitest sand is nowhere near the UK, but it's certainly worth the flight time, reports the Express. Tulum Beach in Mexico was crowned as having the whitest sand in the world, as it had the least deviation from pure white. Tulum Beach sits on the Yucatan coast of Mexico at the country's southeastern tip, looking out to the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. Tulum is a huge tourist destination known for its beaches and well-preserved ruins of an ancient Mayan port city. The main building is a large stone structure called El Castillo which sits atop a rocky cliff looking down across the white sand beach and turquoise sea. Given its tourist draw, there are plenty of hotels, restaurants and bars situated throughout the long narrow stretch of town. However, some visitors on Tripadvisor do note that prices can be high for amenities such as parking. Having visited in July 2024, an American tourist left a Tripadvisor review saying the area had both "good and bad" points. They described the beach, however, as a "paradise". Coming in second place was Anse Source D'Argent in the Seychelles, which had a variation of 4.3, and Marmari Beach in Greece took third place with a variation of 6.5.
