District reacts to death of recent high school graduate killed in crash

The Riverside Local School District in DeGraff has asked the community to pray for the families of Jackson Scott, according to a social media post.
As previously reported by News Center 7, Scott was identified as the driver of a 2009 Ford Focus in a deadly crash on State Route 235, just north of State Route 29, in Champaign County Sunday night.
An initial Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) report indicated that he swerved to avoid hitting an animal and lost control of his Ford. Scott went off the road and hit a tree. He died from his injuries.

Landyn Thompson has been identified as the passenger in the Ford.
CareFlight transported him to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries, the school district stated.
'Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,' the school district said on its Facebook page.
Thompson also recently graduated from high school.
A vigil was held Monday night at the flagpole in front of the school.

Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett was cited for speeding early on Saturday morning in Strongsville, Ohio. Garrett can avoid a court appearance by paying the $250 fine. As Cabot noted, it's the eighth speeding ticket for the 29-year-old since he arrived in Cleveland as the first pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. It has also been three years since Garrett flipped his Porsche while speeding and swerving to avoid an animal in 2022. Garrett inked a four-year, $160 million contract extension in March, which made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history at the time. The Browns declined comment. Record-breaking birth: This baby was born from an embryo frozen 30 years ago
It sounds like something out of a sci-fi film – an embryo frozen in time for three decades, waiting for the right moment to live – but this isn't a make-believe story. This is the extraordinary story of Thaddeus Daniel Pierce, who's made headlines as the 'oldest' baby ever born. The little boy developed from an embryo that had been frozen for over 30 years, and his parents, Lindsey (35) and Tim Pierce (34) from Ohio in the USA, are embracing this extraordinary journey. 'We had a rough birth, but we are both doing well now,' Lindsey says. 'He is so chill. We are in awe that we have this precious baby.' In the early 1990s Linda Archerd (now 62) had struggled with infertility for six years. In May 1994, she and her then-husband created four embryos through IVF. One embryo resulted in a healthy baby girl, now 30, who has a 10-year-old daughter. The remaining three embryos were frozen and stored for decades; and Linda paid annual storage fees of around $1000. 'I called them my three little hopes,' Linda told Technology Review. No longer able to carry a pregnancy herself, she had to decide what to do with her remaining embryos. Rather than discarding them or donating anonymously, she chose to donate them through a program that would allow her to connect with the potential parents. 'It's my DNA, it came from me . . . and it's my daughter's sibling,' she explained. The Pierces found Linda's embryo through the Rejoice Fertility Centre's Open Hearts program, an initiative which focuses on older embryos that might otherwise be overlooked. 'We just decided, why not? We'll give them a chance,' Lindsey told News Nation. 'We believe in life at conception, so we'll just give it a chance and see what happens.' Now the first-time mom can't help but feel the timing was perfect. 'I think God had him in store for us. He held him on reserve just for us.' The situation has created some mind-bending family relationships. Linda's biological daughter is technically Thaddeus' sister. 'The baby has a 30-year-old sister,' Linda says. 'It's been pretty surreal. It's hard to even believe.' 'His story has already reached international headlines and caused quite a stir in the scientific community,' Tim wrote in the fundraiser statement. Ex-Ohio State QB Art Schlichter expected to change plea in felony drug case
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A former Ohio State quarterback appeared in court Thursday on a felony drug charge stemming from a 2024 traffic stop. Art Schlichter, who played for the Buckeyes from 1978 to '81, was allegedly found with two crack pipes during a 2024 traffic stop in North Linden. He was also found with small white rocks, which he reportedly said were 'crack rocks.' Body camera footage released last February by the Ohio State Highway Patrol showed over six minutes of the encounter. Former Ohio State football player Kirk Barton indicted in deadly Dublin crash A judge set a status conference date for Aug. 11, when Schlichter, 65, is expected to change his plea to avoid going to trial on Aug. 25. Schlichter's attorney said he couldn't change his plea on Thursday due to medical issues. When Schlichter was arrested last year, he was on probation for a fifth-degree felony drug charge from 2022 after he was found unresponsive outside of a Columbus-area hotel and had to be revived with Narcan. The former player had spent 10 years in prison for crimes related to gambling and also served time in federal prison for a ticket scam that took millions of dollars from victims. Upon release from prison in 2006, Schlichter wrote a book about his addiction, 'Busted,' and became an anti-gambling crusader. But as he railed against casinos during church appearances, he continued to rack up new gambling debts.
