SMCP appoints new leaders for Fursac and Claudie Pierlot

'Now that we have the wind in our sails, we can afford to put the right teams in the right places.' With Sandro and Maje delivering solid organic growth in the first half of 2025 (+3.7% and +2.9%, respectively), SMCP CEO Isabelle Guichot is now turning her attention to the group's smaller but strategic brands, and Fursac.
During the half-year results presentation, Guichot confirmed that Claudie Pierlot and Fursac, which together posted first-half sales of €75 million, have each welcomed a new general director.
Since the beginning of the year, Fursac — the menswear label that has gained renewed momentum in recent seasons under designer Gauthier Borsarello — has been led by Louise Bousquet Andreani.
Bousquet Andreani has a background in luxury marketing and previously served as executive director of New Business, an advertising agency founded in 1978 by her father, Eric Bousquet. The agency joined the Heroiks Group in 2023.
She is also active as a business angel and co-founded Leia Capital, a 100% female-led investment group.
Fursac, acquired by SMCP in 2019, currently operates 78 branded retail locations and has been featured on the official calendar of Paris Men's Fashion Week in both 2023 and 2024.
Claudie Pierlot, acquired by the group in 2009 and still heavily reliant on the French market, underwent a rebranding test in 2023 under the leadership of Stéphane Ledru, including experimenting with a shortened brand name, 'Claudie.'
Since June, the brand — which has scaled back its retail network to fewer than 200 stores — has been headed by Anne Cottin. Cottin previously led Tara Jarmon and Sephora, and joined Sandro in 2019, most recently serving as sales director for France and Europe.
Both Bousquet Andreani and Cottin have joined SMCP's Executive Committee. 'These are changes that have yet to bear fruit,' said Guichot. 'But these are two directors bringing strong strategic visions to help elevate the brands to a normative level of profitability.'
Guichot, who has recently reinforced the company's leadership in the Asian and American markets, has made financial and operational discipline a defining focus since taking over as CEO of the group.

The US has started levying higher import taxes on goods from dozens of countries, four months after President Donald Trump first announced his plans to impose steep tariffs in a bid to reshape the global trading system. Products coming into the US from more than 60 nations as well as the EU will be subject to rates of up to 50% from Thursday, the White House said. The imposition of country-specific rates follows months of frantic trade negotiations ahead of an August deadline set by Trump. The US president unveiled a sweep of so-called "reciprocal tariffs" in early April, before pausing them for 90 days and then for a further four weeks. Many countries managed to reduce the original rates by reaching agreements with Washington. After deals with the Trump administration, the EU and Japan will now have their US imports taxed at 15%, below the threatened rates of 30% and 25% respectively. Elsewhere, Asian nations including Indonesia, Pakistan, the Philippines and Vietnam settled for levies of around 20%. Other countries face steeper rates, with Laos as well as war-torn Myanmar and Syria struck with tariffs of at least 40%. Meanwhile, goods from Brazil are being taxed at 50%, partly as a result of Trump's displeasure at the country's treatment of former President Jair Bolsonaro. Uncertainty remains The Trump administration has given some trade partners, including India and China, longer to cut deals. The US president has yet to announce whether he will extend a 12 August deadline for reaching a trade agreement with China that would forestall earlier threats of tariffs of up to 245%. India also has no broad trade agreement with Trump. On Wednesday, Trump signed an executive order that could increase India's tariff rate from 25% to 50% over its continued purchase of Russian oil. Washington has given the country 21 days to respond. These tariffs, according to Indian exporters, will severely hamper their ability to compete with countries facing lower rates. A top body of Indian exporters said Thursday the tariffs will impact nearly 55% of the country's outbound shipments to America and force exporters to lose their long-standing clients. 'Absorbing this sudden cost escalation is simply not viable. Margins are already thin,' S.C. Ralhan, president of the Federation of Indian Export Organisations, said in a statement. Switzerland is also among those countries that have not reached a trade agreement with Washington. The European nation's executive branch, the Federal Council, was expected to hold an emergency meeting on Thursday after President Karin Keller-Sutter and other top Swiss officials returned from a hastily arranged Washington trip that aimed to reduce Trump's 39% tariffs. On her X account, Keller-Sutter posted photos of meetings with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio — with whom her team discussed tariffs and other issues — as well as with US and Swiss business leaders. She made no reference to any deal to bring down the US tariffs on Swiss products, which are among the highest imposed on any country by the Trump administration.

After much fanfare and several delays, US tariffs finally came into force on Thursday, August 7, one minute after midnight in Washington. "IT'S MIDNIGHT!!! BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN TARIFFS ARE NOW FLOWING INTO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!" US President Donald Trump posted on his Truth Social network just minutes after the deadline. The full impact of this new world trade order remains difficult to assess. However, one thing is clear: The United States has officially broken with decades of free trade, raising the average tariff on imported goods from about 2% in January to 17.3% now, according to data compiled by the Budget Lab at Yale University. This is the highest level since the early 1930s, when American protectionism was at its peak. Behind this figure lies a significant disparity and lingering uncertainty. Most of the 69 countries targeted by Trump's announcement on July 31 – including those in the European Union – face a 15% tariff. Some countries, however, are hit harder, such as most Southeast Asian nations (between 19% and 20%), Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Libya, South Africa (30%), Iraq, and Serbia (35%).
