PE aspirants of CUET-UG 2025 bear brunt of NTA's negligence
NEW DELHI: Many candidates who appeared for the physical education paper continue to face the fallout of a major discrepancy — the removal of an 'optional' section on sports, contrary to what the official syllabus had promised in the CUET-UG 2025.
With corrective action from the
National Testing Agency
(
NTA
), multiple candidates have reported losing out on top choices in central universities due to lower percentile scores in the physical education paper.
As per the official CUET-UG syllabus, Unit III — 'Theoretical Aspects of Games, Sports and Yogic Practices' — was to include questions from a single sport, based on the candidate's selection. However, the actual paper asked questions from multiple sports without offering any choice, blindsiding students who had prepared selectively as per the guidelines.
The TOI had highlighted the issue in its July 1 report where it was stated that the official syllabus uploaded by NTA states that candidates should, while naming the sports, opt for 'one of your choice' for Unit 3. However, candidates reported that the questions were mandatory with no option. When asked, NTA did not address the syllabus deviation directly. Instead, it stated: 'For physical education, the panel of subject experts decided not to provide options in Unit 3, as offering choices across 15 different sections was deemed impractical… Questions included in the paper were fundamental in nature… No undue advantage was given to any candidate during the conduct of the examination.

Despite representations through emails, social media, and the grievance portal, the NTA has remained silent. 'We were promised a choice. Instead, the paper included volleyball, javelin, and other sports we hadn't prepared for. Now our percentile is low, and counselling is almost over,' said a candidate from Rajasthan eyeing a BSc in physical education.
The issue is evident in the exam paper itself. For instance, Question 6 in Set 1 asked: 'In FIVB World and Official competitions for seniors, if a team has more than 12 players recorded in the score sheet, how many Liberos are mandatory in the team list?' — a question from volleyball rules, even though many aspirants had chosen entirely different sports.
Similarly, Question 24 asked: 'Which of the following is the correct throwing angle for Javelin in athletics field events?' — again, from a sport-specific section that was not supposed to appear unless selected by the candidate.
As CUET follows normalisation and merit-based seat allocation, even minor score drops have cost candidates seats in top universities. 'This isn't about poor preparation. It's a breach of trust. You can't deviate from the syllabus without prior notice,' said a Delhi-based teacher.
Candidates had flagged the issue on June 30 itself, with several taking to Reddit and other forums to post screenshots and protest the change.
'The paper included random sports without giving us a choice. It's clearly unfair,' one user wrote.
With most central universities concluding first-round counselling and no provision for re-evaluation, students say they feel cheated. 'We missed the BPEd cutoff at BHU. There's no grace marks mechanism. And NTA hasn't even acknowledged the issue,' said a candidate from Varanasi.
The episode adds to CUET-UG 2025's mounting list of controversies — from biometric failures to erratic centre changes.
But for physical education aspirants, the NTA's silence has been the most damaging response of all.New Delhi: Many candidates who appeared for the physical education paper continue to face the fallout of a major discrepancy — the removal of an 'optional' section on sports, contrary to what the official syllabus had promised in the CUET-UG 2025.

Austin Dillon creates NASCAR history, gets compared with legendary seven-time Cup Series champion Dale Earnhardt
In his playoff-clinching victory at Richmond Raceway, Austin Dillon shared some NASCAR history on the venerable short track with the most famous driver of the No. 3 Chevrolet. Dale Earnhardt , the late seven-time Cup Series champion who amassed 76 victories in a Hall of Fame career, was the last Richard Childress Racing driver to win consecutive Cup races at the 0.75-mile oval in Richmond, Virginia, until Dillon did so Saturday night. The comparisons to Earnhardt and whispers of nepotism have dogged Dillon since the grandson of team owner Richard Childress was tabbed 11 years ago to drive the car number synonymous with a NASCAR icon. 'I could win 50 races, and they'll say my grandpa gave me the ride,' Dillon said with a smile. 'They're not wrong. He did. He did a great job putting me in it. Hopefully, I'm paying off on his investment at some point.' Richmond was only his sixth victory in 433 Cup starts, but Dillon said snapping a 37-race winless streak was 'one of the best because it was pretty much a butt kicking.' He led 107 of 400 laps, including the final 49, and cruised to a 2.471-second victory over Alex Bowman. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 3BHK Transformation Possible for ₹4.5 Lakh? HomeLane Get Quote Undo Dillon never led for more than 35 laps in any of his previous Cup wins. He won the 2018 Daytona 500 by leading only the last lap after knocking Aric Almirola aside two turns from the checkered flag. Last year's win at Richmond was his most controversial as Dillon wrecked Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin on the final lap, and NASCAR consequently revoked his playoff eligibility. Live Events There was no such drama Saturday night, when Dillon cleanly outdueled 2023 Cup champion Ryan Blaney just before his final pit stop. 'Anybody that says Austin doesn't deserve to be at this level, look at the 30 or 40 laps he raced side by side with Ryan Blaney,' said Richard Boswell, Dillon's crew chief. 'He raced door to door with a Cup champion. He beat him. Yeah, we need to run better. We need to be more consistent. But anybody that says he just can't do it is not looking at the facts.' The statistics are less convincing about Dillon's championship chances. Richmond was the first top-five finish in 25 races this year for Dillon, who is ranked 25th in the points standings and in the Cup playoffs for the sixth time in 12 seasons. He has won championships in the Truck and Xfinity series, with 22 victories across NASCAR's top three national circuits. 'Austin has earned his way,' Childress said. 'He won races in everything he's ever driven. They're going to give you criticism because he is my grandson. But we take it. It's just the way life is. You can't be burdened down by what people say. Do what you do and move forward. He's won his share.' 35-year-old Dillon said he cried last year during RCR's unsuccessful appeal of the NASCAR penalty that took him out of the playoffs, noting he legitimately had passed Hamlin and Logano before a late caution erased a comfortable lead. The Richmond repeat validated Dillon's belief that he belongs in NASCAR's premier series. Playoff outlook Dillon became the 14th winner to lock into the 16-driver playoff field heading into the August 23 regular-season finale at Daytona International Speedway. There will be at least one winless driver to qualify for the playoffs, and Tyler Reddick and Bowman occupy the final two provisional spots in the points standings. Reddick was on track to clinch a playoff spot at Richmond after leading 41 laps, but he finished 34th after being caught in a crash that started when Daniel Suarez bumped Ty Gibbs. 'It's pretty much worst-case scenario for us,' Reddick said. 'We can thank Daniel Suarez for that. Went from a car that was one of the fastest on the track to one of the slowest.' Bubba Wallace, who is teamed with Reddick at the 23XI Racing squad co-owned by NBA great Michael Jordan, led a race-high 123 laps in his No. 23 Toyota but finished two laps down in 28th after losing a tire during a pit stop. Regular-season champion With a 12th-place finish, William Byron clinched the regular-season title as Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott finished last. Byron will be awarded 15 playoff points that will provide a good cushion to make the championship finale at Phoenix Raceway for the third consecutive season. FAQs Q1. What is age of Austin Dillon? A1. Austin Dillon is 35-year-old. Q2. Who is Dale Earnhardt? A2. Dale Earnhardt, the late seven-time Cup Series champion who amassed 76 victories in a Hall of Fame career.

Asia Cup 2025: Who from the 'Class of 2023' still remain in the mix as India's squad announcement nears
Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma NEW DELHI: With the Indian selectors expected to unveil the squad for the Asia Cup 2025 on Tuesday, August 19, speculation is mounting over who will make the cut for the continental T20I event. India, placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, will feature in the tournament scheduled in the UAE from September 9–28. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! This edition will be played in the T20I format, aligning with the T20 World Cup cycle next year. The last edition in 2023, however, was an ODI competition jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. That squad, led by Rohit Sharma, lifted the trophy, but much has changed in the two years since. Poll Which player from the Class of 2023 do you think will be missed the most in the 2025 squad? Rohit Sharma Virat Kohli Ravindra Jadeja From the Class of 2023, three stalwarts — Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja — have retired from T20Is, drawing curtains on their illustrious careers in the shortest format. Their absence has created both a leadership vacuum and opportunities for the next generation. Several others who featured two years ago have drifted away from India's T20 set-up. Ishan Kishan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Shami, and Shardul Thakur have not been part of the scheme in recent times, either due to form, fitness, or selection dynamics. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dementia Has Been Linked To a Common Habit. Do You Do It? Memory Health Click Here Undo That leaves a solid core of players still very much in contention for the Class of 2025. Suryakumar Yadav , now India's T20I captain, heads the list, with Hardik Pandya , Jasprit Bumrah, and Shubman Gill expected to play central roles. Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar, Tilak Varma, and Kuldeep Yadav also remain in the selectors' consideration. The key talking point, however, is how many of these 2023 squad members will survive the transition. The rise of youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, and Jitesh Sharma has made competition stiffer, while experienced hands such as Pandya and Bumrah provide balance. As the BCCI gears up for the announcement, the focus will be on continuity versus fresh blood. For now, the question lingers: who from the Class of 2023 will carry forward India's challenge in the Class of 2025? Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!
