More heartache for Jonathan LaPagila as he loses ANOTHER job after shock Survivor sacking
Top Gear Australia is thought to have been quietly dropped from Paramount+'s production slate, leaving the popular host without a local series to host.
Daily Mail Australia can exclusively reveal that the big-budget reboot will not return in 2025 or 2026 for its slated second season.
The 2024 series, starring LaPagila, marked the third attempt to relaunch the iconic British motoring format locally, after two false starts by SBS and Nine.
It has now been shelved indefinitely by Network 10.
LaPagila steered the latest iteration of the wildly successful Top Gear franchise, alongside Amazing Race Australia host Beau Ryan, and YouTube series Car Mods co-host Blair 'Moog' Joscelyne, who boasts 3.8 million followers.
The eight-part series, co-produced by BBC Studios Australia, premiered in May 2024 on Paramount+ and is one of the streamer's most-watched local originals.
'It hasn't been officially axed,' a source close to the production tells Daily Mail, 'but it's absolutely not coming back — at least not with this line-up.'
It follows a turbulent few weeks for LaPaglia, who was also dropped as host of Australian Survivor, a role he held since the show's 2016 reboot.
News of his axing by email sparked fierce backlash online, with many fans declaring Survivor 'unwatchable' without him.
According to industry insiders, Network Ten and streaming partner Paramount+ are undertaking a broad overhaul of their reality TV offerings, with a major shift towards younger, more diverse presenters.
'There's been a sweep of changes behind the scenes,' an executive source tells Daily Mail.
'Several long-standing hosts, not just JLP, have been quietly told they're not part of the future.'
While official announcements are expected at the network's Upfronts event in September, sources say decisions have already been made regarding several key on-air personalities.
'The direction now is clear: younger talent, more energy, and fresh faces. It's not personal, it's branding,' the source added.
In dozens of interviews last year, LaPagila and his co-hosts waxed lyrical about their 'chemistry' and 'mateship' being the key to revitalising Top Gear.
However, the trio of self-confessed fanboys, and even Network 10/Paramount+ Australia executive producer Ciaran Flannery, freely admitted their nerves about picking up the seemingly poisoned TV chalice.
'The original version was so good, it was so well done,' LaPagila told Mumbrella.
'It's not like we're taking a crappy version and aiming to make a better version, we're starting with something that was already really good.
'So if I'm perfectly honest, I did feel the pressure and the weight of that, because I know those comparisons are going to be inevitable. So that did give me pause initially – as it does hinge on the relationship between the three of us.'
The most recent update on season two was posted eight months ago when the series went free-to-air on Channel 10, sparking excited chatter from the hosts
Despite big expectations, Top Gear Australia's 2024 revival failed to rev up a lasting impression.
While critics praised the high production value, fans online described the series as 'underwhelming' and 'lacking spark'.
'A new series won't air in 2025,' one Ten insider tells Daily Mail, 'but we continue to work with BBC Studios on what a new series might look like.'
Speaking to Mediaweek last year, network EP Flannery said that Paramount+ would never make Top Gear again if it wasn't able to match the production value of the show's best international versions.
'It's got to be up there, and the reality is the scale that Paramount+ gives us allows us to go global,' he said.
'Paramount+ delivered a production value that arguably a local version might not quite have matched.'
The show also struggled to generate the buzz of its original 2008 version or the more chaotic 2011 reboot.
Ratings were reportedly modest and social media engagement flatlined after the season premiere.
'It looked great, but felt like it was trying too hard to replicate the UK version,' one fan surmised on Reddit. 'There was no reason to bring it back.'
The most recent update on Top Gear's future came eight months ago, in a joint Instagram post made by Beau Ryan and LaPagila to announce season one would go free-to-air on Ten.
'Myself, Jonathan, and Blair embarked on the adventure of a lifetime. Supercars, super boats, muscle cars, EVs, hatchbacks, trucks, tanks, , tractors, caravans, you name it, we sent it,' Beau wrote.
'There were tears, fires, nudity, laughter and plenty of hugs. Obviously in that order. After being such a huge success on Paramount+ the guys at 10 have made the choice to air it on Channel 10 and we couldn't be more excited.'
Then crickets.
While neither Network Ten nor Paramount+ have confirmed LaPaglia's future with the network, insiders say the writing is on the wall.
'He hasn't done anything wrong,' said one inside source.
'But he's part of an era that Ten is trying to move past.'

Gold Logie winner Hamish Blake fined $400 in shock airport incident
Two-time Gold Logie winner Hamish Blake recently found himself in an unexpected predicament during a trip to New Zealand, where a routine airport inspection turned into a costly affair. The Lego Masters Australia host, 43, revealed on the Hamish and Andy podcast that he was halted at customs when a suspicious item was detected in his backpack. Hamish recounted the perplexing moment his bag was singled out by an officer. 'My backpack has a lot of compartments – it's actually the world's best backpack,' Hamish joked. 'I'm like, "Listen, you might not be familiar with this particular backpack, where is it? How can I help you? Can I find this thing for you?" He goes, "no, I'll need to do it".' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. To his bemusement, the officer retrieved a small red apple hidden under an emergency rain jacket in the front pouch of his bag. 'Is this yours?' the officer asked, to which Hamish said he humorously responded, 'I've never seen that apple before in my life.' Despite the innocent nature of the mishap, he was slapped with a hefty $400 fine by Biosecurity New Zealand. The comedian speculated the apple may have inadvertently found its way into his bag during a previous trip to South Africa. Reflecting on the incident, he shared his disbelief at the consequences of what he dubbed an 'accidental apple mishap.' Despite the fine and the incident now on his record, Hamish maintained his trademark humour, joking about the apple's international journey and its unintended role as a gift to the people of NZ. Hamish has been nominated for a Gold Logie this year for his presenting work on Lego Masters Australia. It comes after a surprise frontrunner emerged in the race to take out the coveted Gold Logie at this year's TV WEEK Logie Awards. Beloved Home and Away star Lynne McGranger, 72, is now the clear favourite to win Australian television's top prize, after a wave of public support and sentimental backing for her 33-year run as Irene Roberts on the long-running soap. According to betting giant Sportsbet, McGranger has stormed into the lead with odds of just $1.37 – far ahead of her nearest rivals. She's now well ahead of A Current Affair's Ally Langdon ($5.00), LEGO Masters host Hamish Blake ($8.50), ABC presenter Lisa Millar ($10.00), and comedian Julia Morris ($11.00). Meanwhile, MasterChef Australia star Poh Ling Yeow sits at $13.00, while 2023 Gold Logie winner Sonia Kruger has blown out to $17.00. The veteran actress, who earlier this year announced her departure from Home and Away, is being widely tipped to take home the Gold as a touching send-off from viewers. At the ceremony, beloved rocker Jimmy Barnes is set to take the stage at The Star Sydney on August 3, bringing four decades of fan-favourite hits to Aussie ears. Meanwhile, comedian Sam Pang will host the event for the third time. Sam's cheeky and irreverent comedy as host last year and in 2023 proved to be a big hit with audiences and TV's A-list, as well as a major ratings winner for Seven. The ceremony will be available to watch from 7:00pm on Sunday, August 3 on Seven and 7Plus. 65th TV WEEK LOGIE AWARDS NOMINATIONS TV WEEK GOLD LOGIE – Most Popular Personality on Australian Television Ally Langdon - A Current Affair, The Olympic Games Paris 2024, 9Network Hamish Blake - LEGO Masters Australia, 9Network Julia Morris - I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Network 10 Lisa Millar - Back Roads, ABC News Breakfast, Muster Dogs: Where Are They Now, Muster Dogs: Collies & Kelpies, ABC Lynne McGranger - Home and Away, Seven Network Poh Ling Yeow - MasterChef Australia, Network 10 Sonia Kruger - The Voice, Dancing With The Stars, Logies Red Carpet Show, Seven Network Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter Hamish Blake - LEGO Masters Australia, 9Network Julia Morris - I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Network 10 Ricki-Lee - Australian Idol, Seven Network Sonia Kruger - The Voice, Dancing With The Stars, Logies Red Carpet Show, Seven Network Todd Woodbridge - Tipping Point Australia, Australian Open, The Olympic Games Paris 2024, Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, 9Network Zan Rowe - Take 5 With Zan Rowe, ABC New Year's Eve, ABC Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent Guy Montgomery - Guy Montgomery's Guy Mont Spelling Bee, ABC Hailey Pinto - Home and Away, Seven Network Jenny Tian - Taskmaster Australia, Network 10 Kate Miller-Heidke - The Voice, Seven Network Kylah Day - Territory, Netflix Sofia Levin - MasterChef Australia, Network 10 Ray Martin Award for Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter Ally Langdon - A Current Affair, 9Network David Speers - Insiders, ABC Michael Usher - 7NEWS, 7NEWS Spotlight, Seven Network Peter Overton - 9News, 9Network Sarah Ferguson - 7.30, ABC Tara Brown - 60 Minutes, Dangerous Lies: Unmasking Belle Gibson, 9Network TV WEEK SILVER LOGIE – Best Lead Actor in a Drama Lloyd Griffith - Return To Paradise, ABC Michael Dorman - Territory, Netflix Robert Taylor - Territory, Netflix Sam Corlett - Territory, Netflix Sam Neill - The Twelve, BINGE / FOXTEL Tai Hara - Return To Paradise, ABC TV WEEK SILVER LOGIE – Best Lead Actress in a Drama Alycia Debnam-Carey - Apple Cider Vinegar, Netflix Anna Samson - Return To Paradise, ABC Anna Torv - Territory, Netflix Ayesha Madon - Heartbreak High, Netflix Kaitlyn Dever - Apple Cider Vinegar, Netflix Lynne McGranger - Home and Away, Seven Network TV WEEK SILVER LOGIE – Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Aaron Chen - Fisk, ABC Ben Miller - Austin, ABC Clancy Brown - Good Cop/Bad Cop, Stan Luke Cook - Good Cop/Bad Cop, Stan Michael Theo - Austin, ABC Patrick Brammall - Colin From Accounts, BINGE / FOXTEL TV WEEK SILVER LOGIE – Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Harriet Dyer - Colin From Accounts, BINGE / FOXTEL Jenna Owen - Nugget is Dead: A Christmas Story, Stan Kitty Flanagan - Fisk, ABC Leighton Meester - Good Cop/Bad Cop, Stan Sally Phillips, Austin - ABC Vic Zerbst - Nugget is Dead: A Christmas Story, Stan TV WEEK SILVER LOGIE – Best Supporting Actor Ashley Zukerman - Apple Cider Vinegar, Netflix Darren Gilshenan - Colin From Accounts, BINGE / FOXTEL Glenn Butcher - Fisk, ABC Mark Coles Smith - Apple Cider Vinegar, Netflix Matt Nable - Apple Cider Vinegar, Netflix Sam Delich - Territory, Netflix TV WEEK SILVER LOGIE – Best Supporting Actress Aisha Dee - Apple Cider Vinegar, Netflix Chloé Hayden - Heartbreak High, Netflix Julia Zemiro - Fisk, ABC Marg Downey - The Newsreader, ABC Michelle Lim Davidson - The Newsreader, ABC Tilda Cobham-Hervey - Apple Cider Vinegar, Netflix Best Drama Program Bump - Stan Heartbreak High - Netflix Return To Paradise - ABC Territory - Netflix The Newsreader - ABC The Twelve - BINGE / FOXTEL Best Miniseries or Telemovie Apple Cider Vinegar - Netflix Critical Incident - Stan Fake - Paramount+ How To Make Gravy - BINGE / FOXTEL Human Error - 9Network Plum - ABC Best Entertainment Program ABC New Year's Eve - ABC Australian Idol - Seven Network Countdown 50 Years On - ABC Dancing With The Stars - Seven Network The Voice - Seven Network Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight - 9Network Best Current Affairs Program 60 Minutes - 9Network 7.30 - ABC 7NEWS Spotlight - Seven Network A Current Affair - 9Network Australian Story - ABC Four Corners - ABC Best Scripted Comedy Program Austin - ABC Colin From Accounts - BINGE / FOXTEL Fisk - ABC Good Cop/Bad Cop - Stan Melbourne International Comedy Festival - ABC Optics - ABC Best Comedy Entertainment Program Gruen - ABC Hard Quiz - ABC Have You Been Paying Attention? Celebrity hair queen Mariah Rota engaged in Europe five years after marriage heartbreak
Celebrity hairdresser to the stars Mariah Rota has found love again - five years after her marriage ended in scandal. The in-demand stylist, whose COLE Hair salons are a go-to for Sydney's elite, is newly engaged to Aussie businessman Justin Broomhead after a romantic European proposal. Rota, who was previously married to Tom Cole, split from her husband in 2020 after he was reportedly seen leaving a hotel with a well-known Sydney identity. Now, the 37-year-old is said to be 'on cloud nine' after Broomhead popped the question during a holiday in Ravello, Italy. 'Coming home with a full heart and a fiancé,' she captioned a carousel of glowing social media photos. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The precious pictures showed the pair toasting their engagement with sweeping views of the Amalfi Coast behind them. She also showcased her stunning diamond engagement ring, which features a large oval-cut stone set on a delicate gold band - a timeless and elegant design that had fans swooning. The post drew many congratulatory messages from her high-profile circle of friends and clients. 'Aweeee congratulations beautiful woman!!! So gorgeous yay!! Xxxxx,' gushed Home and Away star Jodi Gordon. 'So happy for you two beautiful people - the perfect combination,' another person added. Rota is the founder and director of COLE Hair Studio, which operates in the exclusive Sydney suburbs of Double Bay and Mosman. Among her A-list clients are 'nude artist' Dina Broadhurst and reality TV star Terry Biviano. She also owns Hairtalk Hair Extensions across Australia and New Zealand - cementing her place as one of the most sought-after names in the industry. It's been a whirlwind few years for the powerhouse businesswoman, who has bounced back from personal heartache and built a hair empire along the way. The battle of Double Bay - the inner Sydney area known as Australia's ritziest suburb - pitted Mr Cole against rival businesses run by his former wife, Mariah Rota, and Joh Bailey, who once employed both of them. The feud kicked off in March 2017 when Mr Bailey went to Ms Rota and Mr Cole's wedding in Bali, was reportedly kicked out for bad behaviour and then fired the happy couple. Initially, Mr Cole and Ms Rota set up a rival salon, Cole Hair Studio, just metres away from Bailey's business. But the marriage didn't last and Ms Rota got the salon in the divorce, while Mr Cole set up another nearby establishment, heating up the rivalry for well-heeled customers in the area. 'The last few years have been very rocky,' Mr Cole previously told The Wentworth Courier. 'I was quite ignorant for a period of my life, my late 20s. I hurt a lot of people, didn't realise what I was doing at the time.' He explained that he decided to take a year off to 'focus on himself'.

Big Brother's JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes pack on PDA in smitten snaps as her ex goes public with new romance
JOJO Siwa and Chris Hughes have shared brand new loved up snaps to celebrate National Girlfriends Day. The couple, whose friendship turned romantic after meeting on Celebrity Big Brother back in April this year, have proven inseparable over the last few months. 6 6 6 On Friday, the pair shared new Instagram Stories of each other, marking National Girlfriends Day with pictures cuddled up together. Chris shared a photo of them in a kitchen together, with Jojo leaning into his cheek as he put his arm around her. On Jojo's story, she shared a snap of them on the sofa together, with Chris asleep on her chest. "Happy national girlfriends day to me," she wrote on the snap. "Lucky lucky girl I am." The new photos came on the same day that Jojo's ex, Kath Ebbs, went public with their new romance. The non-binary star shared photobooth pics kissing Australian footballer Tilly Lucas-Rodd. "The rumours are true! YES I still (stupidly) believe in love!! 🚀" they wrote. Kath and Jojo were dating for four months before Jojo's stint in the Celebrity Big Brother house, with the DJ giving their full support of Jojo as she entered. However, things got complicated when fans became aware of how close Chris and Jojo were becoming, often sleeping in bed together and having a tactile friendship. Flying over to reunite with Jojo at the final, the pair awkwardly broke up at the wrap party when Kath confronted their girlfriend about what they'd seen. Chris Hughes reveals baby plans with JoJo Siwa as 'besotted' hunk gushes over new love Chris and Jojo remained friends after leaving the house, but in the space of a few weeks admitted their relationship had become a romance. Since then, the pair have been backing and forthing between Los Angeles and Essex to spend as much time as possible together. However, they've been forced to fend off trolls who have questioned their romance, branding their 10-year age gap 'creepy' and criticising Jojo, who had come out as gay four years prior. But Chris has defended their romance, telling The Sun: "Meeting Joelle [Jojo's real name] gave me this magical feeling. She is the most precious person. 'Life has an unexpected way of bringing two people together, and this feels like that. We were meant to cross paths. "We keep saying to each other it was serendipity. Life handed me a blessing in my lap.' 6 6 6
