Tamdhu 21 year old
Speyside gem Tamdhu has recently launched a 21 year old whisky. The distillery, part of Ian Macleod Distillers, the family-owned whisky and gin company, has been creating fine whiskies on the banks of the River Spey since 1897.
This very limited 'coming of age' 21-year-old release, like all Tamdhu single malts, is fully matured in Oloroso sherry casks to deliver a flavour profile and entirely natural colour.
It is bottled at 47.5% ABV, unchill filtered and is a limited (on allocation) annual global release with a recommended retail price of £299 for a 70cl bottle.
Not only is this a special whisky, ideal for a gift, it's presented in an elegant green cut-work gift box whose Spanish-Moorish design reflects the Southern Spanish sherry casks used in the maturation process.
The display box, adorned with a metallic Tamdhu monogram, slides off to reveal the inner design case and a slide drawer with a tasting notes booklet. The closure is gold wood, decorated with a gold branded capsule.
Tamdhu 21 year old is priced at £299 and you can buy a bottle here.
Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 3
Award winning farm-to-cask Lochlea distillery has recently unveiled Cask Strength Batch 3 – the latest release in its annual series of limited-edition cask strength bottlings – and a first in flavour profile for the independently owned distillery.
This year's release marks a bold evolution in Lochlea's Cask Strength series, combining rich Oloroso sherry with distinctive Islay peat - a pairing never before explored by the distillery.
It also represents a significant milestone for Lochlea's master blender Jill Boyd, who joined the distillery in late 2024 and has led the selection and blending of Cask Strength Batch 3 from start to finish.
Cask Strength Batch 3 delivers a captivating nose of ripe red fruits and savoury BBQ smoke, followed by a rich palate of cherries and dark molasses lifted by warming ginger cake, toasted rye and charred wood smoke.
The long, layered finish lingers with baking spice, salty smoke, and oaky tannins intertwining with delicate floral notes of red roses to create a bold new take on Lochlea's signature style.
Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 3 is priced at £67 and you can buy a bottle here.
Glen Moray 12 Years Old Smoky
Glen Moray single malt Scotch whisky is tempting whisky fans to explore a distinctively different side to its classic Speyside single malt, with the unveiling of Glen Moray 12 Years Old Smoky.
'Smoky Twelve' is set to be a treat for both peat lovers and fans of Glen Moray's famously smooth and fruity spirit - and it will make the perfect gift for dram lovers on Father's Day.
This permanent new addition to Glen Moray's award-winning range is crafted in the traditional way at the whisky's historic distillery in Elgin, but uses peated barley to add subtle notes of sweet bonfire smoke to the spirit.
True to Glen Moray's reputation for exploration when it comes to the influence of wood on whisky's flavour, the new single malt is then matured in two different types of cask: American oak for notes of vanilla and caramel with a smooth bourbon undertone; and European oak, bringing stronger vanilla flavours, with tannins, pepper, fruit and gentle spice.
The result is a very special new dram: all the appeal of Glen Moray's wonderfully light and easy-drinking spirit imbued with the richness of peated malt and the deliciously complex flavours of maturation in two different types of wood.
Glen Moray 12 years old smoky is priced at £49.99 and you can buy a bottle here.
Aberfeldy 22 year old Oloroso Sherry cask finish

This single malt is the latest addition to the Exceptional Cask Series - a collection of rare Single-Cask bottlings, Double-Cask expressions, and small-batch releases from Aberfeldy.
After maturing in traditional oak casks, the new release has been finished in rich Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, Spain, imparting a beautifully balanced complexity while enhancing the signature character of Aberfeldy.
The result is a luxurious dram with sweet orchard fruits, succulent pear, and caramelised apples taking centre stage.
Aberfeldy 22 year old Oloroso Sherry cask finish is priced at £195 and you can buy a bottle here.

Scotch whisky society poised to open franchise in India
The move marks a further step in the Society's ongoing expansion into Asia, and follows the recent opening of franchises in Vietnam, South Korea and Taiwan. Those joined its more established outlets in Japan and Taiwan. The latest franchise comes after the formal signing of the new free-trade deal between the UK and India, which the Scotch whisky industry hopes will lead to a major breakthrough in exports to the south Asian economic powerhouse through the lowering of tariffs. Artisanal said in a statement to the stock market that, subject to label registration being completed, it expects to dispatch its first shipment to India in the coming months. The company noted that India is the largest global market for Scotch whisky by volume. Read more: 'Whilst entry into the market is expected to deliver marginal returns initially, we believe the long-term opportunity from brand presence and strategy execution, alongside our experienced and well-connected franchise partner, is an important area of future growth for the business as the Indian whisky market further develops,' Artisanal said. Meanwhile, the company said its US-based Single Cask Nation business, which was acquired to allow the Society to introduce an American whiskey offer to its members, has commenced its first exports to Brazil. Artisanal said Brazil is the world's 15th largest market for ultra-premium whisky, with sales having doubled in the last five years and now representing a market worth $158 million. Andrew Dane, chief executive of the Artisanal Spirits Company, said: 'We are continuing to build the SMWS business for the medium to longer term, growing our global presence with entry into exciting new markets such as India, as well as developing new opportunities for SCN, as we expand our whisky fan club globally. 'The Indian market, in particular, presents exciting potential for the group over the medium to longer term and we are delighted to welcome our new franchise partners, PNM Tech Beverages, to the wider SMWS family. We remain confident that the actions we are taking stand us in good stead to continue to deliver future growth.'

Scotch Malt Whisky Society owner Artisanal Spirits Company has cheered a new Indian tie-up as it expands its whisky fan club globally. The Edinburgh-based group, which also owns Single Cask Nation and JG Thomson, said that following a 'rigorous review of options in the market' an India franchise had now been signed with PNM Tech Beverages. Subject to label registration being completed over the coming months, Artisanal expects to dispatch its first shipment of product to India in the coming months. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The move follows the recent sealing of a free trade agreement between the UK and India - seen as a major boost to the Scotch whisky industry. Picture: Peter Sandground Artisanal described its Indian deal as 'another milestone in the group's strategic expansion in Asia', complementing the 2023 franchise launches in Korea and subsidiary in Taiwan, alongside its longer established China and Japan subsidiaries. India is the largest global Scotch whisky market by volume. Across the broader group, Single Cask Nation (SCN) is successfully expanding into new markets, commencing exports to Brazil for the first time during the third quarter. Brazil is the world's 15th largest market for 'ultra-premium' whisky and is demonstrating a growing appeal, Artisanal noted. Andrew Dane, chief executive of Artisanal Spirits Company, said: 'We are continuing to build the Scotch Malt Whisky Society [SMWS] business for the medium to longer term, growing our global presence with entry into exciting new markets such as India, as well as developing new opportunities for SCN, as we expand our whisky fan club globally. The update comes a month after Artisanal flagged a 'respectable and resilient' first-half performance as it battles tariff uncertainty. The group said its underlying result for the period was 'broadly in line' with the prior year loss of £1 million, despite ongoing tough global trading conditions. In a trading update to investors, it noted that revenue had marginally decreased while it implemented a tariff mitigation plan. Membership retention at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society was said to have remained positive, at around 70 per cent, although there was a marginal decline in overall membership compared with the end of December. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The group, which listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2021, said it continued to make good progress with cask sales, with an incremental £1m or so of revenue in the first half supported by the 'exciting opportunity' in the coming months from the recent launch of Artisan Cask - a luxury private cask programme.

Scotch whisky veteran behind Isle of Harris Distillery exits
Isle of Harris Distillers, which produces The Hearach single malt and Isle of Harris gin, said managing director Simon Erlanger had been 'instrumental in the success of the business since its inception' as it announced he would retire next month. Asked by The Herald about the outcome of a recent redundancy programme at the distillery, which was implemented amid tough trading conditions for the sector, a spokeswoman said today that 18 staff had 'chosen to take voluntary redundancy earlier this year, with the company supporting them to find employment elsewhere'. Ron MacEachran, executive chairman at Isle of Harris Distillers, said today: 'We remain confident, notwithstanding the challenges and significant change being managed by the company and the spirits industry generally, that Isle of Harris Distillers will continue to grow both domestically and internationally.' The multi-million-pound distillery project on the Isle of Harris was the vision of US-born musicologist Anderson Bakewell. Read more Mr Erlanger, a former sales and marketing director of Scotch whisky distiller Glenmorangie, said today: 'Very few have the chance to establish a new Scotch whisky distillery, let alone one with such a special purpose. I am immensely proud of what this team has created and I am confident that the foundations we have built will see the distillery fulfil its founding mission. 'I'd like to thank Anderson Bakewell for entrusting me with this project and am grateful for the support and guidance from the board over the years. Whilst excited to spend more time with the family, I still intend to stay connected to this wonderful industry.' The Isle of Harris Distillers board said: 'We would like to announce that Simon Erlanger is retiring as managing director of Isle of Harris Distillers at the end of September after 14 years with the company. 'Simon has been instrumental in the success of the Business since its inception. Under his leadership, the distillery has established two well-respected international spirits brands and has laid the foundations to achieve its purpose of providing multi-generational employment for the Isle of Harris. The board would like to thank Simon for all he has achieved and for his dedication to the company and the island. We wish him a long and happy retirement.' Mr MacEachran said: 'As is the nature of business, change provides us with an opportunity for renewed growth. Following Simon's departure, I will continue in my role of executive chairman, overseeing the business as it moves positively forward. The existing team's determination to build on the foundations created is being complemented by the addition of industry experts, who will support us as we begin this new phase of Isle of Harris Distillers' journey.' Expressing confidence in continued growth, Mr MacEachran said: 'Recent weeks have seen the Pink Ceilidh Bottle sell out in just 45 minutes, showing ongoing demand for the premium gin we produce here on the island. "Alongside this, we have recently successfully launched global travel retail products (The Hearach croft strength malt whisky and Isle of Harris gin tidal strength), allowing consumers to sample a taste of Harris in new and different ways. New listings also continue to be achieved in Scotland, London and further afield, while new product innovation continues on island.' In an interview with The Herald in 2017, Mr Erlanger said of Mr Bakewell: 'It was his vision to do something to stem that population decline [on Harris]. 'He didn't come from the [Scotch whisky] industry. It took someone from outside the industry to come up with the idea. He just had this feeling that distilleries tend to last for generations, rather than [being] short-term ventures.' Mr MacEachran said today: 'Moving forward, we remain focused on the provision of products and service of the highest quality to our ever-increasing consumers and customers, and to the company's long-term mission.'
