This Dutch theme park is packed with whimsical and fairytale-inspired rides, restaurants and shows, but without the high prices and long queues of Disneyland Paris
This entertainment destination in the Netherlands is a closer - and cheaper - alternative to Disneyland Paris. Featuring delicious and budget-friendly foods, rides and storybook charm, this amusement park has all the fun of American parks but at a fraction of the cost.
Efteling Theme Park Resort is a fantasy-inspired entertainment destination. Efteling is called the 'keeper of fairytales" in the Netherlands and once you arrive you'll understand why it has become such a beloved summer holiday spot for local families and tourists alike.

The park opened in 1952 - 40 years before Disneyland Paris - in an attempt by the Efteling Nature Park Foundation to attract more visitors. Thus, the idea for a 'three-dimensional Fairytale Forest with plenty of movement' was conceived, alongside the filmmaker Peter Reijnders and artist Anton Pieck.

In addition to the Fairytale Forest, the park has expanded exponentially over the years to include rollercoasters, family-friendly shows, rides, restaurants and playparks. Each area of the park is designed to add to an overall sense of magic and tells the story of fairytales new and old.
Some of the fairytales that serve as inspiration for the park include familiar favourites like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid and The Frog Prince. But it also features less mainstream classics like The Red Shoes and The Emperor's New Clothes.
Efteling celebrates the work of famous writers like Hans Christian Anderson, the Grimm brothers and Charles Perrault. But in a way that both honours the original tales and is fun for visitors of all ages.
That said, visitors are sure to find all the modern attractions of a large theme park, including goosebump-inducing rollercoasters and water rides that make big waves. If heights are not your forte, then you can opt for a relaxing train ride through the park or take in a 4D show.
The park has different highlights for each of the four seasons, so no matter when you visit, there will be something new to enjoy. Winter in the park is defined by bonfires and twinkle lights and offers the chance to sample some classic Dutch winter treats. Conversely, summer presents the opportunity to see the Fairytale Forest in all its splendor and enjoy the water-based attractions.

There are also plenty of dining options for parents and their picky eaters to sample traditional Dutch pancakes, stroopwafels and more hearty meals. In keeping with the enchantment of the park, each dining establishment takes on a fairytale-inspired theme with staff dressed in costume and putting on a table-side spectacle for diners to enjoy.
Guests must-try experience is the Burgundian heroes' dinner in the Het Wapen van Raveleijn restaurant. To get the full experience, you can book a three-hour programme that includes a park show, a visit to the Riding School, a big main course with dessert and a special finale.

On the opening day of the Fairytale Forest back in 1952, the cost of entry was 80 cents in Dutch Guilder (£0.31). While the price has increased in 2025, it's still reasonable compared to other large theme parks and admission for children 3 years old and under is free. Depending on your date of visit, entrance prices can range between €38.00 to €53.00 (£32 to £45).
If you want the full experience, you can also opt to stay overnight in Efteling or opt to stay in Kaatsheuvel. The town is conveniently located near the park and has come to be a popular staycation destination in the country for its sand dunes and impressive national park. Located in the Brabant countryside, this part of the country is also a popular Eurocamp spot.
Getting there
There are no direct flights to Efteling with plane passengers told to fly into Amsterdam Schiphol or Eindhoven airports, before a 1.5 hour transfer. For drivers, the Eurotunnel-le-Shuttle in Folkestone offers a 30 minute cross-Channel train ride into Calais, or the ferries at the Port of Dover offer the crossing in around an hour.
From there drivers will need to come through France and Belgium, before crossing into the Netherlands, a drive which takes four to five hours. For those situated in the north of the country, you can take the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam, then drive around 2.5 hours to Efteling.

Fans threaten to boycott MLB over 'disgusting' Pride stunt during national anthem at New York Mets game

The New York Mets left baseball fans furious on Friday night after showing a Pride flag on their big screen during a rendition of the US national anthem. Prior to their game against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Mets controversially displayed the LGBTQ + symbol instead of the American flag as the Star Spangled Banner played out at Citi Field. Despite a number of teams getting involved in the annual 'Pride Month' tradition in recent weeks, fans are threatening to boycott MLB over the divisive stunt that took place in New York. One user posted on X along with a video of the Pride flag being shown at Citi Field during the anthem: 'The Mets showed a pride flag instead of the American flag during our National Anthem. Boycott the MLB.' 'That's disgusting, @Mets,' said another. 'Think the @mlb is looking to be boycotted,' wrote a third. A fourth put: 'F***ing Disgrace!!!' The Mets showed a pride flag instead of the American flag during our National Anthem. Boycott the MLB. — Jack (@jackunheard) June 14, 2025 Citi Field was the latest baseball stadium to stage a special Pride Night event this month A fifth posted: 'So disrespectful. This needs to stop.' While another simply put: 'Shameful'. has contacted the New York Mets for comment. MLB teams traditionally hold Pride-themed events in June, with the Boston Red Sox also sparking controversy by staging a pre-game drag show earlier this week. Los Angeles Dodgers players also wore baseball caps with colors of the Pride flag mixed into the team's logo on Saturday, although pitcher Clayton Kershaw made a slight tweak to his hat. Kershaw, who is a devout Christian, inscribed next to the LGBTQ+-inspired logo 'Gen 9:12-16' - which is a passage from the Bible that claims the rainbow was not created by God to represent that demographic. Instead, the passage reads: 'And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth."' That extract from the Bible, which comes just after the story of Noah and his family surviving a worldwide flood on an arc, suggests the rainbow is actually the sign of a covenant God made to never destroy the earth with a flood again. Kershaw's religious statement has gone viral on social media, with a number of users of the same faith commending him for reminding people of the rainbow's meaning. The Boston Red Sox sparked controversy by putting on a pregame drag show earlier this week One wrote: 'Classy move by Kershaw. The rainbow he supports has nothing to do with pride month.' 'Courage to stand up for truth,' said another. While another fan put: 'That's a clever counter!' Others, however, were critical of the baseball player for doctoring a hat designed to raise awareness for equality. 'The rainbow can have multiple meanings,' one argued. 'Why cant the rainbow mean both?' 'What a disappointment,' concluded another.

Brooklyn Beckham's friends say they are 'not surprised' he failed to acknowledge David's knighthood - as Victoria and brothers shower father with pride

has failed to acknowledge his father David's knighthood after the huge fall-out with him and his mother Victoria. While the former England football captain was inundated with congratulatory messages from his family across social media, including praise from his wife and two other sons, 26-year-old Brooklyn publicly remained silent. Brooklyn's wife, American heiress Nicola Peltz, 30, followed suit. Friends of the Beckhams say that they were 'not surprised' to see that influencer Brooklyn had again shunned his father – especially as they blame Nicola for controlling him. But they are said to be saddened as Brooklyn knows what it means for his Dad to get his knighthood. Sources close to the family are now waiting to see whether Brooklyn, who lives in Los Angeles with Nicola, takes to Instagram to wish David a happy Father's Day today. 'That's the next thing,' said a friend. 'He didn't wish his mother a happy Mother's Day so it's unlikely he will be in touch with David – but let's see.' David's knighthood has given the Beckhams something to smile about after they were left heartbroken by the fall-out with Brooklyn. He left his parents sad and furious when he and Nicola snubbed all of David's 50th birthday celebrations. They did not attend a pre-birthday bash at Italian restaurant Cipriani in Miami in March, nor a big family party at the Beckhams' £10 million Oxfordshire home. They also missed an idyllic trip to France and a dinner at Notting Hill, West London, restaurant Core. Brooklyn also shunned a 'boys' fishing trip' to the Highlands with his father and his younger brothers. Posh and Becks don't think they will have a relationship with Brooklyn for the foreseeable future. But fashion designer Victoria yesterday shared her pride at her husband's gong. It's a tribute that a decade ago looked unlikely to be granted after David blasted the honours committee for taking his name off their list, calling them 'unappreciative c***s' and insisted he 'didn't care about being knighted'. However, that was all ancient history when in a gushing Instagram post, Victoria, 51, wrote alongside a picture of her planting a kiss on David's face: 'You've always been my knight in shining armour, but now it's official. Sir @davidbeckham!!! 'What an honour, I couldn't be prouder of you. 'Your dedication to the things that matter most – your country, your work, your passion and most of all, your family – has never wavered. The way you've touched so many lives over the years with kindness and humility speaks volumes about the man you are and continues to inspire us every day. But above all else, I'm so, so proud to call you mine. I love you so much xxxx.' Son Romeo, 22, posted a photograph of him and his father dancing at a party alongside the words 'so proud of you'. His younger brother Cruz, 20, went one better by posted two congratulatory messages on social media. The first was a snap of David smiling as he sits in a wooded area. 'I'm so proud of you dad, I love you,' Cruz wrote alongside. He added: 'Sir David Beckham has a nice ring to it.' In another post Cruz teased his mother, writing: 'Sir David Beckham & Lady Victoria' with a photograph of his parents on the steps of their Holland Park, London, mansion on the night they joined King Charles at Buckingham Palace for a welcoming ceremony for the Emir of Qatar, which David attended with his OBE medal on his chest. David, who also has a daughter Harper, 13, is now in Miami, where he co-owns Inter Miami football team. He is likely to come before the King for his investiture later this year. He is expected to take Victoria and his parents Sandra and Ted, whom he credits for his footballing success, as his three guests, with a huge party to follow afterwards.

Gino D'Acampo reveals TV return after ITV axe over misconduct allegations

Gino D'Acampo has confirmed his plans to return to TV after months of controversy following 'inappropriate behaviour' allegations. A matter of months ago, the Italian celebrity chef, 48, faced accusations of misconduct involving his former colleagues. His alleged behaviour was described as 'unacceptable' and 'distressing', and is said to have included sexualised comments and aggressive language on sets. D'Acampo has always 'firmly denied' the allegations and said they are 'deeply upsetting'. The reports led to him retreating from the limelight, as he was removed from ITV's programming in February. But now, D'Acampo is keen to make a comeback and is set to film a new travelogue later this year. He told The Mirror: 'We have a TV project on for later this year in September, I want to go all around Malta, it's a show called An Italian In Malta. 'The idea is to show everyone all over the world a bit about the country—I want to find the perfect restaurant, the perfect recipe, the perfect spot. 'I will speak to the local people [about] what they cook and how they cooked 200 years ago.' But that's not all, as D'Acampo also has a mystery series in the works, which sees him act for the first time. He revealed: 'I am playing a part in a series; my part is this Italian-American mechanic that is always in trouble with the police or always in trouble with the law, and then he became a mechanic, and he's helping the main character in the show. 'This is acting now; I'm not becoming a real mechanic. I'm useless at stuff like that.' The TV personality actually shared a first glimpse of his role in March via images posted on social media. Snaps showed D'Acampo dressed in a navy boiler suit in what appeared to be a car garage. The TV chef had dark oil patches and dirt across his face and was seen taking a drag on a cigarette while looking at a car engine. Some pics also captured him looking at the camera and discussing scripts. 'What a fantastic experience in Ireland working on a new series… I can't wait for you guys to see it… 😎 p.s Happy St Patrick's Day,' read the caption of the post on Instagram. The upload was supported by some of D'Acampo's former colleagues, including Josie Gibson, who worked with him on This Morning. Celebrity Juice star Leigh Francis, aka Keith Lemon, liked the post too, as did John Barrowman, who has been vocal about his support for the star. In December 2024, D'Acampo was first accused of inappropriate behaviour towards a This Morning colleague. The unnamed woman lodged a complaint to ITV over D'Acampo's alleged behaviour towards her while she worked with him on set of the daytime programme from 2006 to 2011, according to The Sun. It was then claimed that he 'thrust his crotch' at a female staffer while filming on a show with Gordon Ramsay and Fred Sirieix, which D'Acampo denied emphatically. D'Acampo told MailOnline at the time: 'I have been completely shocked by, and deny utterly, these awful accusations of sexual harassment and misconduct against me, which are alleged to have taken place years ago during the shooting of Gordon, Gino & Fred. 'Let me be clear: This did not happen. I take such matters extremely seriously and in particular the suggestion that I have deliberately acted in this improper way against any female employees is deeply upsetting.' In February, D'Acampo's former I'm A Celebrity co-star, Kim Woodburn, called him a 'full-of-himself little pig' who made vile comments about his penis while they appeared on TV together. The cookbook author has been supported by celebrities including Jeremy Clarkson and Gordon Ramsay, who revealed he had reached out to his former co-star. As for his upcoming projects, premiere dates are yet to be revealed. More Trending However, the one set in Ireland isn't the first time D'Acampo has worked with cars on screen after appearing on Emission Impossible. The series was a car-related show starring D'Acampo and Sirieix on an eco-friendly adventure across Austria and Croatia to learn the cost of going green. It was axed after two episodes were released in 2024. This article was first published on March 20, 2025. Got a story?
