Kaidon Salter and four other standout performances from Colorado's spring game
With Colorado's spring game finally in the books, reactions from fans and even head coach Deion Sanders himself were a mixed bag.
For his part, Sanders said after the game that the team would look to the transfer portal to fill the roster gaps. However, these five players managed to stand out above the rest at the Buffaloes' annual Black and Gold game.
Kaidon Salter
Though the spring game featured the highly anticipated debut of 5-star freshman Julian Lewis, it was the veteran transfer who managed to impress at the spring game.
Early on during the scrimmage period, Salter looked much more patient in the pocket and used his legs effectively to keep plays alive. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur kept Salter rolling out for much of his action. While Slaters ended up settling for mostly check-downs, he operated the offense more efficiently compared to Lewis.
While Salter may have given himself a slight edge, Sanders said after the game, both quarterbacks have "a way to go."
Antonio Branch
Colorado's defense was by far the more impressive unit during the spring game, and Branch was a significant factor in their success.
While just a true freshman, Branch made several plays throughout the day, culminating with an interception off a tipped pass in the red zone. Branch looked fluid in coverage, primarily covering check downs, and laid some big hits for a spring game.
Joseph Williams
The young wide receiver transfer from Tulsa turned a lot of heads, despite the offense's struggles. Primarily working with Salter, Williams was by far the best receiver on the field.
The highlight of Williams' day was a 22-yard connection between him and Salter, which resulted in a touchdown, one of the few offensive scores of the day.
Arden Walker
Colorado's defensive line has a lot to live up to after last season's Big 12-leading sack numbers, and Walker looked like he could be a welcome presence on the line.
Walker's highlight came early, beating stud left tackle Jordan Seaton to get a spring game sack of Lewis. Walker showcased nice bend and burst off the line, and with edge rusher Keaten Wade not suiting up, Walker could be the key piece for the Buffaloes to start the year.
Zach Atkins
Tight end was a position Sanders highlighted as a position the Buffaloes still need help at, but Atkins showed off some impressive skills at the spring game. Salter and Atkins provided the first offensive highlight early on, connecting for a 22-yard catch and run.
The Division II transfer won't be setting any new 40-yard dash records, but he displayed a knack for making defenders miss in the open field. Atkins' ability to gain yards after catch will be a welcome addition to the Buffaloes' offense, as they lost their top two pass catchers.
These five players were far from the only standouts at the Buffaloes' spring game, but with uncertainty on the horizon, Colorado fans should expect to see them making plays in the black and gold when the games count this fall.

The Colorado Rockies are as hot as a 12-50 team could be heading into their bout with the New York Mets on Friday night. They swept the Miami Marlins on the road in their last series after losing their previous seven contests, outscoring them 12-8 over the three games. Advertisement Colorado's offense has been unreliable, as they've scored at least four runs in just five of their last 20 games. Even in their sweep of the Marlins, the Rockies won the latter two contests 3-2 after winning the opener 6-4. The team will now have to play New York without an important bat, via Rockies PR. Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (14).Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images Colorado placed shortstop Ezequiel Tovar on the 10-day IL (retroactive to June 3) with a left oblique strain ahead of the game. It also selected the contract of infielder Ryan Ritter from Triple-A Albuquerque, recalled catcher Braxton Fulford from Triple-A, reinstated right-handed pitcher Zach Agnos from the bereavement list, and unconditionally released catcher Jacob Stallings. Tovar is slashing .258/.301/406 with three homers and 10 RBI over 32 games this season. The 23-year-old had a career year in 2024, slashing .269/.295/.469 with 26 homers and 78 RBI over 157 contests. Red Sox Make Major Roman Anthony Announcement After Beating Yankees

Red Sox Make Major Roman Anthony Announcement After Beating Yankees originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Red Sox had been in a bit of a slump recently, but found some momentum over the weekend by taking two out of three games from their rival—and AL East-leading—New York Yankees. The series win pushed Boston to 32-35 on the season as they look to build consistency and stack more victories. Advertisement Following the series, the Red Sox made a major announcement on Monday ahead of their series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park. After a highly anticipated wait, Boston is officially calling up top prospect Roman Anthony, the No. 1 ranked prospect in all of baseball. Anthony has been dominant in the minors and will now join a crowded but talented Red Sox outfield, posing an intriguing challenge for manager Alex Cora as he figures out how to manage the rotation. The 21-year-old is set to join the team on Monday and will be in the lineup for their matchup against the Rays, batting fifth. Shilo Sanders gifts Apple Watches to Colorado football players, establishing culture

Shilo Sanders gifts Apple Watches to Colorado football players, establishing culture Shilo Sanders got the entire Colorado Football Team Apple Watches 🔥 🎥 : @TawfiqThomas — We Coming 🦬 (@SkoBuffsGoBuffs) June 7, 2025 The entire Sanders family is known for their flash and swagger. Deion Sanders leads the charge as Colorado's head coach and the Pro Football Hall of Famer, effectively known as "Prime Time" during his playing days. Shedeur and Shilo Sanders show much of the same swag as their father. Shedeur became known for his signature "watch flex" celebration, which has become popular among other professional athletes. Now, Shilo, who showed his style on the field during his two seasons at Colorado, is giving back to his Buffs' family. In a video posted to Instagram by new Colorado defensive lineman Tawfiq Thomas, he showed off a new Apple Watch, which was gifted to him by Shilo Sanders. Thomas can be heard in the video shouting, "Apple Watch after workout, Yes sir, Shilo! Yes, sir Shilo!" The gesture isn't surprising considering Sanders was the Buffaloes' defensive leader the past two seasons, but the fact that he is gifting the watches to players who weren't even his teammates speaks volumes. Deion Sanders is establishing a culture in Boulder, and his sons are taking that to heart, helping to leave a legacy that will hopefully continue for years to come. Shilo is now in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Still, he is showing that he wants Colorado's current roster to feel his support, which can undoubtedly pay huge dividends when trying to keep a roster intact during the ever-evolving college football landscape. Colorado will need a strong locker room this season as they enter 2025 with the Big 12's toughest conference slate and one of the toughest overall schedules in the conference. The Buffaloes will open their season with a Friday night home game against Georgia Tech on Aug. 29. Follow Charlie Strella on X, Threads and Instagram.
