Delayed relief to kin of martyrs: 31 cases filed
A first-of-its-kind massive joint action was taken by the Upa Lokayuktas- Justice K N Phaneendra and Justice B Veerappa ahead of the 79th Independence Day celebrations.
Speaking to TNIE, Justice Phaneendra, Upa Lokayukta-1, in charge of 15 districts, said the move aims to support families of those who sacrificed their lives for the nation, after receiving multiple complaints about martyrs' and ex-servicemen's families struggling to get their due benefits.
Justice Veerappa, Upa Lokayukta-2, in charge of 16 districts, said, 'We are safe because of the soldiers who are shedding blood on the border. Despite laws being brought to facilitate certain benefits to them, neither have they been given land nor a site, which amounts to maladministration under the Karnataka Lokayukta Act, he said. The Upa Lokayuktas have fixed the responsibility to the Assistant Commissioners of all districts to ensure that all the reports are submitted by September 24. Further, the copies of the suomoto complaints have been marked to the Deputy Commissioners, and also to the Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department.
Upa Lokayuktas cited cases like Geetha B C, from Mandya, who hasn't received benefits 20 years after her husband's death, and N K Lalithambika from Tumakuru, who's been fighting for land promised to her 50 years ago.

How many of them were allotted land or site under Karnataka Land Grant Rules, 1969
How many applications have been received, approved, pending

Amritsar: As the nation gears up to celebrate its 79th Independence Day, security arrangements have been tightened along the Indo-Pak international border and across the border districts of Punjab. A flag march was also conducted by police forces to instill a sense of safety and boost public confidence ahead of the celebrations. Sources informed that coordination meetings between the BSF, Punjab Police, and intelligence agencies are being held regularly to assess any emerging threats and ensure a quick response. Bhullar informed that to ensure comprehensive security coverage, the entire city has been brought under strict surveillance and divided into sectors. Senior officers have been assigned specific areas to oversee, with clear instructions to monitor activities closely. The primary focus of these operations is on identifying and curbing the movement of anti-social elements, conducting thorough checks at hotels and guest houses, and verifying tenants who have not registered with the local police. Mohali gears up for 79th Independence Day, Khuddian to lead celebrations

Full-dress rehearsal brings spirit of freedom alive in Ludhiana ahead of 79th Independence Day.
Ludhiana: A full dress rehearsal for the 79th Independence Day took place on PAU grounds on Wednesday. Deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain presided over the parade and hoisted the flag. He took a salute from the participating contingents of march past comprising Punjab Police (men and women), Punjab Home Guards, NCC Scouts (boys and girls) and others, led by parade commander PPS Officer Harshpreet Singh. The deputy commissioner was accompanied by DCP Parminder Singh Bhandal and ADC Rakesh Kumar. The march past was followed by a mass PT show by 850 students of 25 government schools, patriotic colourful cultural programme presented by students of different institutions, including Government High School (Dhandari), Spring Dale School, BVM School, DAV School and 16 others institutions.
