Visit of Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri to Mauritius
2. The visit followed the telephone conversation between Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the Prime Minister of Mauritius, H.E. Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, on 24 June 2025, during which the two leaders discussed the ongoing cooperation across a broad range of areas and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthen the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between India and Mauritius.
3. During the visit, Foreign Secretary called on the President, H.E. Mr. Dharambeer Gokhool, the Prime Minister, H.E. Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, the Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Paul Berenger and the Foreign Minister of Mauritius, H.E. Mr. Dhananjay Ramful and met key Mauritian leaders and officials.
4. In his meeting with the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Foreign Secretary reiterated the invitation of Prime Minister Modi to PM Ramgoolam to visit India. Both sides held discussions on the entire range of bilateral cooperation. Foreign Secretary sought guidance to further strengthen the special and close ties and conveyed India's continued commitment to the development, progress and prosperity of Mauritius. As part of the commitment to work together to address challenges faced by Mauritius on account of increase in drug-addiction and related social issues, Foreign Secretary handed over specialized anti-drug equipment to FM Ramful.
5. The visit is part of continued high-level exchanges between two countries and reflects the importance India attaches to its relations with Mauritius. In line with our Neighbourhood First policy, Vision MAHASAGAR and our commitment to the Global South, the visit reaffirmed the continued commitment from both sides to deepen the multi-dimensional bilateral partnership for the prosperity and development of both countries and the larger Indian Ocean Region.

Nigeria: Keyamo commissions modern airport terminal
The Sokoto State Government has commissioned a newly reconstructed airport access road and a modern VIP terminal building at the Sultan Abubakar International Airport, Sokoto, as part of ongoing efforts to reposition the state as a key gateway in Nigeria's aviation and economic landscape. 'As I drove through the newly reconstructed road, I said to myself: Sokoto is fast becoming a gateway to the nation,' he stated. 'With the kind of leadership I have seen here, I am confident that this state is on solid footing.' Governor Ahmed Aliyu, while speaking at the event, revealed that the airport and its access road were in a deplorable state for several years, following an abandoned contract by the previous administration. He noted that his government re-awarded and completed the projects with a focus on quality and long-term impact. According to him, the road reconstruction and beautification were completed at a cost of ₦1,264,516,255.50, while the construction of the state-of-the-art VIP terminal building was executed at ₦1,501,116,683.48. 'We are building a new Sokoto — one that can compare not only with other cities in Nigeria but with modern cities across the world,' the governor declared. The Sokoto airport infrastructure development initiative took a further leap as Governor Aliyu announced the commencement of a new terminal project, with the foundation-laying ceremony performed by Minister Keyamo. The new terminal, he said, will feature cutting-edge equipment and meet global standards. Governor Aliyu used the occasion to express the state's firm support for President Tinubu, assuring that the people of Sokoto remain solidly behind his administration and reform efforts. The event was attended by top government officials, traditional leaders, aviation stakeholders, and members of the public, all of whom applauded the state's transformation agenda. Nigeria: No Reps member embezzled FG's $653,774 constituency project — Rep Ogene
The member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra State, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, has debunked a rumour making the rounds amongst his constituents and on some social media platforms that he and his colleagues in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly embezzled a whopping N1 billion allegedly given to each of them by the Federal Government to execute projects in their respective constituencies. The federal lawmaker, who made the denial during his 2nd-anniversary town hall meeting and scorecard presentation held in Atani yesterday, described the allegation as a falsehood deliberately being spread by wicked blackmailers in order to destroy the reputation of others before the people. Ogene said the truth is that the N1 billion was appropriated in the current 2025 federal budget as constituency projects for every House of Representatives member, but that the Federal Government has not even started the implementation of the budget. He told his people that, besides the N1 billion, he personally, through lobbying, got an additional N1.3 billion appropriated in the same 2025 federal budget for the implementation of sundry projects in the constituency. In attendance at the town hall meeting were traditional rulers and presidents-general of all the communities in the federal constituency, women and youth leaders, market leaders, landlords' associations, clergymen, and leaders of various political parties, including the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and All Progressives Congress (APC), among others. The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Renewable Energy and Labour Party (LP) caucus leader in the lower chamber, stated that the Federal Government has not even finished paying contractors for 2024 constituency projects up till now. He told his people that if the Federal Government implements the N1 billion appropriated in the 2025 budget, along with the N1.3 billion he personally attracted into the budget through lobbying for sundry projects, between this year and next year, he would have surpassed his campaign promises. Hon. Ogene advised his constituents to always cross-check any allegations made against him and his co-legislators concerning every money appropriated for constituency projects from the Federal Government's official social media portals before believing such claims. He vowed that his service to the people would continuously be guided by objectivity, sensibility, and utmost responsibility. 'As I earlier pledged, I will continue to lead from the front, prioritising the interest, peace, development, and progress of Ogbaru in every decision and step I make as your representative,' Ogene assured. Hon. Ogene enumerated the various constituency projects earmarked in the 2025 appropriation for implementation in the constituency to include massive electricity projects, solar streetlights, water schemes in Ogbaru communities, provision of security vehicles for vigilante groups, provision of science equipment in schools, construction and equipping of exam halls, training and empowerment of women and youths, and construction of a cottage hospital, among others. He, however, stated in his scorecard within the period under review that he has sponsored 19 bills and 12 motions. Hon. Ogene added that, within the past six months, he had also facilitated the installation of streetlights in 27 different communities and locations in the constituency. Over 250 constituents, including women and youths, have also benefited from training and empowerment programmes in different fields including solar technology, ICT, fishery, and clean cooking. Each of the beneficiaries also received financial grants and relevant empowerment materials from the lawmaker, he further stated. Nigeria: Sokoto govt approves strategic projects to strengthen infrastructure, security, governance
The Sokoto State Executive Council, led by Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has approved a series of far-reaching projects aimed at revitalizing public infrastructure, boosting security, and enhancing governance across the state. Briefing journalists after the fifth council meeting of the year, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Sambo Danchadi, alongside the Attorney General and the Commissioners for Lands, Housing, and Environment, outlined the key decisions taken by the council. A major highlight was the approval for the procurement of official vehicles for Permanent Secretaries across the state's ministries. According to Danchadi, many senior civil servants have operated without official vehicles for nearly 17 years—a situation the governor deemed unacceptable. 'This decision underscores Governor Ahmed Aliyu's commitment to restoring the dignity and efficiency of the civil service,' the commissioner said. 'It's a significant step toward strengthening the administrative machinery of the state.' In a similar vein, the council approved the construction of a new, purpose-built office complex for the Ministry of Justice. For years, the ministry has shared office space with the Ministry for Local Government—a constraint that has hindered optimal service delivery. 'This is a landmark development for the legal sector in Sokoto,' said the Attorney General. 'The new office will offer a conducive environment for legal officers and improve the ministry's productivity.' As part of the broader Sokoto infrastructure and governance reforms, the council approved the purchase of 25 units of the 2024 Toyota Buffalo vehicles—10 to be allocated to community-based security outfits and 15 to conventional security agencies operating in the state. The initiative is designed to improve security logistics and response capacity amid evolving threats. The council also gave the green light for the comprehensive renovation of the Mariam Abacha Women Development Centre in Sokoto. The once-vibrant center will be revived to serve as a hub for skills acquisition and economic empowerment for women. In a move to enhance cross-border mobility and prevent flooding, the council approved the reconstruction of a damaged culvert along the Sokoto–Illela–Niger Republic road in Santaka village, Illela Local Government Area. The culvert had become a major obstacle to trade and transportation while contributing to seasonal flooding in nearby communities. To address rising environmental concerns, the Ministry of Environment received approval for the direct procurement of nine waste disposal trucks, along with cleaning materials, safety kits, and household waste bins. The move is aimed at modernizing sanitation and improving urban cleanliness across the state. 'These approvals are a testament to the administration's resolve to deliver on its Nine-Point Smart Agenda,' said Danchadi. 'Governor Aliyu is laying a strong foundation for sustainable development through responsive and strategic governance.' With these bold actions under the Sokoto infrastructure and governance reforms, the administration continues to demonstrate its commitment to citizen welfare and institutional revitalization.
