Enbridge says a new Alberta-B.C. pipeline would require specific conditions, including legislative change

Canada's biggest crude oil shipper says a lot needs to happen before it would propose a new pipeline to the West Coast. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has said she wants to see a pipeline running from her province to the Port of Prince Rupert, B.C., so that more oilsands crude can be exported to Asia by tanker. She told a news conference Tuesday that the province has been in 'active conversations' with pipeline companies and is 'pretty close' to having a one or more come forward with a plan. Smith has said the West Coast pipeline she envisions would test the Liberal federal government's new process to review projects deemed in the national interest within two years. Enbridge Inc. ENB-T, which has a massive pipeline network spanning Canada and the United States, says it will always assess market-diversifying projects, provided there is a demand from the producers it serves. It says in a statement that any new project would require careful consideration and real provincial and federal legislative change around carbon policies, regulatory timelines and Indigenous participation. 'We will be there to build what is needed for our shippers, for Alberta and for Canada – that's our job, our mission as a company – but only when the conditions make sense and the right framework is in place,' Enbridge said. Gary Mason: B.C. and Alberta are about to renew old hostilities. It could get ugly The CEO of federally owned pipeline operator Trans Mountain Corp. told reporters earlier this month that his company is among those Smith has spoken to about spearheading a new pipeline. But Mark Maki said 'optimizing the existing kit' is a priority over building something new for now. Trans Mountain flows to the B.C. Lower Mainland and is currently the only way Alberta producers can meaningfully access Asia-Pacific markets. South Bow Corp. SOBO-T, which operates the Keystone pipeline connecting Alberta crude to refineries in the U.S. Midwest and Gulf Coast, said in a statement it appreciates provincial and federal recognition of the need for increased pipeline capacity. 'South Bow carefully evaluates all opportunities, especially those that complement our current assets and strengthen our existing corridor.'

ARIANNE PHOSPHATE ANNOUNCES PARTICIPATION IN GRANT AWARD FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF QUEBEC Français

SAGUENAY, QC, June 25, 2025 /CNW/ - Arianne Phosphate (the "Company" or "Arianne") (TSXV: DAN) (OTCQX: DRRSF) (FRANKFURT: JE9N), a development-stage phosphate mining company, advancing the Lac à Paul project in Quebec's Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, is pleased to announce that Minister Blanchette Vezina, Minister of Natural Resources and Forests, recently announced the awarding of several grants totalling over $750,000 for R&D projects in the circular economy of critical and strategic minerals. As part of these grants, Arianne, with two other companies, received funding to participate in a project aimed at strengthening the supply chain for local integration of the Lithium-Iron-Phosphate ("LFP") sector in Quebec. For Arianne, the objective is to reduce the environmental impact and production costs associated with the optimization of inputs and processes association with lithium-iron-phosphate production using purified phosphoric acid. In 2024, both the Quebec and Canadian governments added the phosphate-bearing mineral apatite to their respective critical mineral lists. As well, in June of 2024, Arianne published a prefeasibility study on a downstream facility to produce purified phosphoric acid ("PPA") from high-purity phosphate concentrate. PPA is a necessary ingredient for use in both the food industry and advanced battery technologies. Considerable interest has been shown in advanced battery technologies and the growing use of LFP batteries in both electric vehicles and energy storage systems. In 2024, the LFP battery became the most widely used battery chemistry globally. Arianne's Lac à Paul deposit is geologically rare (igneous) allowing the Company to produce a phosphate concentrate that is ideally suited for integration into the LFP ecosystem and, the Company is widely regarded as having an opportunity to address the growing Western demand as supply chains shift from China. Discussions with industry players continue to advance and the Company has been active in this pursuit. Over the past month, Arianne has participated in several conferences and, is proud to be a Silver Sponsor and presenter at the Oreba3 battery technology conference to be held in Montreal July 6-8, 2025, to discuss the use of phosphate in the LFP battery and the opportunities for the Company. As well, Arianne has granted 600,000 stock options to Mr. Jeffrey Beck, CEO of Arianne Phosphate, in lieu of any salary or cash remuneration for his employment with the Company. These options entitle Mr. Beck to purchase one common share of the Company until June 23, 2035, at a price of $0.155 per share, this being the closing price of the Company's shares on the trading day of the grant. The options are subject to a vesting period and are also subject to regulatory approval. Mr. Beck added, "continuing to tie my remuneration to the future fortunes of the Company is a welcomed opportunity as prospects for the Company look very encouraging." About Arianne Phosphate: Arianne Phosphate ("Arianne Phosphate Inc.") ( is developing the Lac à Paul phosphate deposits located approximately 200 km north of the Saguenay/Lac St. Jean area of Quebec, Canada. These deposits will produce a high-quality igneous apatite concentrate grading 39% P 2 O 5 with little or no contaminants (Feasibility Study released in 2013). The Company has 213,714,811 shares outstanding. Qualified Person Raphael Gaudreault, eng., Qualified Person by Regulation 43-101, has approved this release. Ikea's offer of free kids' meals 5 days a week not coming to Canada

An Ikea store is seen in Dartmouth, N.S. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Andrew Vaughan A promotion billed by Ikea as an effort to reduce customers' 'cost-of-living pressures' is not coming to Canada – at least not as initially billed. Ikea announced Wednesday it was offering half-price adult meals and free kids meals Monday through Friday in markets around the world. The news release listed Canada as among the 14 countries involved. Yet in an email Wednesday afternoon, a spokesperson for Ikea Canada told that a portion of the news release was 'incorrect for Canada.' Instead, only Canadian customers who are members of the store's reward program, known as Ikea Family Members, will be able to get 50 per cent off during the week, with the caveats that this deal applies to 'select main dishes' only and is 'while supplies last,' Ikea's Alicia Carroll said in an email. Kids' meals are free, but only on Wednesdays with the purchase of an adult meal. This promotion runs July 10 through August. Ikea and its parent company, Ingka, billed the discount as a way to 'help people stretch their budgets.' But a food distribution and policy expert said the public-relations strategy comes 'probably a year or two too late.' 'If you look at the G7 (countries) right now, their food inflation is under four per cent. Canada is at 3.4, which is slightly above average,' Dalhousie University's Sylvain Charlebois said in a phone interview with Wednesday from Brazil. 'I think the message would have resonated even more two years ago when people were actually hurting. Right now, people are just coping, and they're accepting that food prices are going to remain high, but they've actually adjusted, they've made adjustments to their budgets accordingly.' Charlebois said it was likely a move to recruit new customers and encourage more frequent visits for existing clientele. While customers might only need furniture once a year or every few years, they do need to eat, so a food-based promotion is a way to bring in shoppers who aren't currently looking for furniture. 'If you can use food as bait and get people in more often, and generate more traffic, that's powerful,' Charlebois said, adding that chances are that once a customer is in the store they'll buy something, even if just smaller impulse items.
