Former Barcelona coach Pascual named Pharaohs new boss - Omni sports
The 57-year-old former Barcelona coach replaces fellow Spaniard Juan Carlos Pastor, who had led the "Pharaohs" since 2023 but opted not to renew his contract.
Pascual's deal will run through to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the EHF said.
A highly decorated coach, Pascual guided Barcelona to numerous domestic and European titles, including the EHF Champions League crown in 2021.
Most recently, he took charge of Hungary's Telekom Veszprém, who won the 2024 IHF Super Globe, with Egyptian star Yehia El-Deraa among the squad.
Pascual's tasks will include preparing Egypt for the 2026 African Men's Handball Championship in Rwanda and the 2027 IHF World Championship in Germany.

Egypt Crowned 2025 World Squash Junior Champion
Taarek Refaat Egypt's junior squash teams continued the nation's reign over the sport, securing both the boys' and girls' titles at the Junior World Squash Championships, held at Black Ball Sporting Club in New Cairo from July 12 to early August. Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi attended the finals alongside Evyenia Sidereas, Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo; Zena Wooldridge, President of the World Squash Federation; and Amna Al-Trabulsi, President of the Egyptian Squash Federation. Speaking after the event, Minister Sobhi expressed pride in the young athletes' achievements, attributing the success to the unwavering support of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for Egypt's sports sector. 'This double world championship victory reflects the strategic planning of Egypt's squash system and its enduring global leadership across generations,' Sobhi said, adding that the triumph bolsters Egypt's ambitions for the sport at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The girls' team clinched their title after defeating Hong Kong 2–0 in the final, with the squad featuring Amina Arfi, Jana Galal, Nadine El-Hamamy, and Souhaila Hazem. The boys' team sealed their victory by overcoming the United States 2–0 in their final match. Representing Egypt were Mohamed Zakaria, Marwan Asal, Eyad Dawood, and Adam Hawel. Sobhi noted that squash has become one of Egypt's most prominent sports at all age levels, with national teams consistently dominating global competitions. 'The Pharaohs have left their mark on the sport, claiming victory after victory and raising the Egyptian flag in every arena,' he added. Egypt's clean sweep at the championships reaffirms its unmatched status in world squash, with both junior teams adding yet another chapter to the nation's storied history in the sport. read more Japan Stun Spain 2-1 to Qualify for World Cup Last 16 World Cup 2022: Get to Know Confirmed Line-ups of Japan and Spain Group E Decider Saudi Arabia Bid Farewell to World Cup after 2-1 Loss to Mexico Tunisia Achieve Historic Win over France but Fail to Qualify Tunisia to Clash against France in World Cup Sports Get to Know Squad of Group D Teams in World Cup Sports Al Ahly Gift EGP 70,000 to Players After Claiming Egyptian Super Cup Title Sports Bencharki Hits First 2 Goals with Al Jazira Since Leaving Zamalek Sports Arsenal Possible Line-up for Nottingham Forest News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Formula One: Norris on top as McLaren dominate opening Hungary practice - Omni sports
Lando Norris topped the times ahead of series leader and team-mate Oscar Piastri as McLaren ruled Friday's opening practice for this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. Norris, who is 16 points adrift of Piastri in the drivers' world championship, clocked a best lap in one minute and 16.052 seconds to outpace the Australian by 0.019 seconds on a dry and sunlit day at the Hungaroring. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc was third ahead of Racing Bulls' impressive rookie Isack Hadjar, seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton in the second Ferrari and rookie Oliver Bearman of Haas. Leclerc was two-tenths adrift of the McLarens and four-tenths clear of Hadjar. Mercedes' rookie Kimi Antonelli was seventh ahead of team-mate George Russell, four-time champion Max Verstappen, who on Thursday confirmed he will stay with Red Bull next year, and Lance Stroll of Aston Martin. The session began in bright and warm conditions, with rain threatening, at the Hungaroring, 20km north of the capital, with Felipe Drugovich among the early starters. Drugovich was called in to replace Aston Martin's two-time champion Fernando Alonso, who was nursing a muscle injury in his back. The Spaniard celebrated his 44th birthday last Tuesday. Norris clocked an early fastest lap in 1:17.63 to prompt Hamilton to ask how he, in eighth place, was a full second adrift and where. "Turns eight and nine"nswered race engineer Riccardo Adami. Ten minutes later, Hamilton – a record eight-time winner in Hungary – complained his "car doesn't feel good" as he dropped to 10th, unable to find a groove in his medium tyres stint. After half an hour, Paul Aron, in for Nico Hulkenberg at Sauber, stopped at Turn 13 having received a 'systems critical alarm'. The team advised him to switch off and his car was pushed off through the barriers. Having spent time on Thursday explaining that he felt the title race would be decided in favour of the driver who makes fewest mistakes, Norris's quickest time of the session was a statement of intent. And given his expertise at the tight and twisty track, Hamilton found a way to improve to climb inside the top five. UEFA Fines Paris Saint-Germain Over Champions League Final Incidents
Rana Atef The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced on Thursday that Paris Saint-Germain has been fined €148,000 for crowd misconduct during the UEFA Champions League final held in May. The sanction comes after PSG's fans stormed the pitch at Allianz Arena in Munich, celebrating the club's historic 5-0 victory over Inter Milan, which secured their first-ever Champions League title. According to UEFA's disciplinary and ethics committee, the charges against PSG included pitch invasion, use of pyrotechnics, throwing of objects, property damage, and displaying inappropriate banners. Match organizers reportedly struggled to control the situation as thousands of fans poured onto the field at the final whistle. In addition to the fine, UEFA also imposed a one-match ban on PSG from selling tickets to away fans in European competitions, though this sanction has been suspended for two years. It will only be enforced if a similar offense occurs during that period. read more Japan Stun Spain 2-1 to Qualify for World Cup Last 16 World Cup 2022: Get to Know Confirmed Line-ups of Japan and Spain Group E Decider Saudi Arabia Bid Farewell to World Cup after 2-1 Loss to Mexico Tunisia Achieve Historic Win over France but Fail to Qualify Tunisia to Clash against France in World Cup Sports Get to Know Squad of Group D Teams in World Cup Sports Al Ahly Gift EGP 70,000 to Players After Claiming Egyptian Super Cup Title Sports Bencharki Hits First 2 Goals with Al Jazira Since Leaving Zamalek Sports Arsenal Possible Line-up for Nottingham Forest News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
