's July 28 order staying Calcutta High Court's earlier decision to halt the implementation of a revised list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) notified by the state government.
WBJEE board chairperson Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee told reporters that the results will be declared on August 7.
"From today (July 31), candidates will have to upload details about their caste category certificate in the relevant section of WBJEE portal till August 2.
The board will sort out the data and incorporate updates of every candidate before coming up with the results," she said.
"We are sure the process (of uploading details) will be over by the stipulated time and the results will be published on August 7," the WBJEE chairperson said.
A senior higher education department official said, "The decision to update every candidate's profile with caste category details have been taken after consulting legal experts."
The WBJEE exams were held on April 27.
On July 28, a Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justices K Vinod Chandran and NV Anjaria, while hearing the state government's appeal, vacated the high court's stay and noted that "prima facie, the high court order seems to be erroneous."
On June 17, the Calcutta High Court ordered an interim stay on notifications issued by the state government with regard to reservations to 140 subsections under OBC-A and OBC-B categories made by it.
The state had prepared the new list after the high court, in May 2024, quashed the inclusion of as many as 77 communities in the OBC list.

'The Mercedes currently being used by the Governor has completed its service life. We have decided to procure a new vehicle for him," said Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan. Shukla is presently using a Mercedes 350 acquired in 2019 during the previous BJP regime. Before that, the Raj Bhavan used a 2013-model Mercedes 250. A Raj Bhavan official said a formal proposal was submitted to the government after a mechanical inspection of the current vehicle. 'So far, we haven't received any official response," the official added. The decision follows a recent public disagreement between the Governor and Chief Minister over drug-related issues in the state. In other key decisions, the Cabinet approved reservations for Other Backwards Classes (OBCs) in upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) elections. Previously, reservations were limited to SC/ST communities and women. A dedicated commission will soon be formed to collect ward-wise OBC population data to allocate seats accordingly. Himachal has 76 ULBs under the Urban Development Department. The last elections were held in March 2021, and the next are due in 2026. The Cabinet also recommended convening the state Assembly's monsoon session from August 18 to September 2. SC stays HC verdict restoring protected status to Kanjurmarg landfill
MUMBAI: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the Bombay High Court verdict that had restored the status of the Kanjurmarg dumping ground to a 'protected forest'. The stay order has paved the way for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to continue to dump solid waste at Mumbai's only active dump yard The Supreme Court order was delivered on a special leave petition (SLP) filed by the state government, challenging the May 2 verdict of the high court, which had set aside a 2009 decision of the BMC to denotify the protected forest status of the land, so that they could use it as a dumping yard. On Friday, a division bench comprising Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran took note of the submissions by solicitor-general Tushar Mehta, appearing for the state, that the landfill had been incorrectly notified as a protected forest. As a result, the state contended, it had de-notified the 118 hectares in question in 2009, so that the land could be used as a dumping ground. 'We will stay the order,' said the apex court. When a lawyer representing the state government opposed the order, the bench asked, 'You tell us where the garbage can be dumped now.' The original PIL, filed in 2013 by non-profit Vanashakti, had challenged the environmental clearances given for the setting up of the landfill on protected forest land. It argued that the 2009 de-notification of the plot violated procedure as noted in the Forest Conservation Act, 1980. When restoring the protected forest status of the landfill in May, the high court had also given the BMC three months to comply with its order. The state then filed the SLP in the Supreme Court on July 26, arguing, 'The impugned judgment (…) would have a disastrous effect on the city of Mumbai, as there being no other similar waste disposal ground and landfill. If… it is to be discontinued, the entire city of Mumbai would be deprived of a solid waste dumping area and its residents will have to suffer unnecessary and untold hardships and major health risks.' It further clarified that only 20.76 hectares of the 141.77 hectares that were de-notified had a mangrove forest on them, and that they had not been impacted by or included in the waste-processing site in the decade and a half that the BMC had been using it. The SP argued that the plot's original notification as a protected forest was erroneous. Stalin D, director, Vanashakti, said they had been provided with a copy of the SLP on Thursday, only a day before the hearing in the Supreme Court, leaving little time to have their lawyers reach Delhi or prepare for their submissions in court. 'The SC stayed the HC order within two minutes, without hearing us or opening our file. We fought for 15 years against all odds, got a good judgement, only to have it overturned in a few minutes, where we weren't given a fair chance,' said Stalin.

No resumption of MGNREGA work in West Bengal despite HC order says PBKMS
Despite an order by the Calcutta High Court, to resume MGNREGA in West Bengal from August 1, there has been no resumption of 100 days work, Paschim Banga Khet Majoor Samity, a union of agricultural workers, said on Friday (August 1, 2025). Hearing a petition of PBKMS a division bench of the Calcutta High Court headed by T.S. Sivagnanam on June 18 directed the resumption of the scheme from August 1 'Yet, even after this landmark victory for rural workers, both the Central and State governments have chosen to brazenly defy the Court's order. Instead of preparing for the resumption of work, block offices in multiple districts are refusing to even accept job applications. This is a deliberate attack on the right to work of the state's poorest,' a press statement by PBKMS said. The union also added that job applications by people made under MGNREGA have been rejected. 'In just four days, between 28th and 31st July 2025, 2,092 job applications were submitted across block offices in Purulia, South 24 Parganas, and North 24 Parganas districts. Meanwhile, job applications from 1,349 workers were illegally rejected in 9 block offices across 7 districts,' the union said. A representative of PBKMS said that when they contacted the NREGA Commissioner, he clearly stated that no work will begin unless the Central Government issues fresh instructions - a position that clearly undermines the authority of the Calcutta High Court. Alleging willful inaction by both the governments, the union stated that the Central Government is equally guilty and by hiding behind Section 27 of the MGNREGA Act, 'it continues to block the release of funds and work, systematically depriving Bengal's workers of their legal right to employment'. The workers union also claimed that in Nadia district's Krishnagar-II block, when a member of the union accompanied workers to submit job applications, the BDO and several panchayat pradhans responded with abuse and threats, calling him a 'Bangladeshi' and threatening him with arrest and punitive action. Demanding the immediate implementation of MGNREGA work in West Bengal, as per the High Court order, the PBKMS stated that this blatant 'non-compliance with a High Court order is illegal, unjust, and unacceptable and it continue our struggle for the right to work in every village and every district'. Before the Lok Sabha polls in 2024, the Trinamool Congress along with MGNREGA workers held protests in Delhi demanding payment of wages and resumption of work. However, West Bengal's ruling party response to the High Court order has been lukewarm. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said her government has started Karmashree Prakalpa to provide at least 50 days of wage employment to each Job Card holder household in a financial year. The scheme, however, is not visible at the grass roots level .Work under MGNREGA had stopped in the State since December 2021 which has resulted in widespread rural distress and migration.
