DALLAS — LevelBlue, a leading provider of managed security services, strategic consulting, and threat intelligence, today released its 2025 Spotlight Report: Cyber Resilience and Business Impact in Healthcare. The findings reveal how the healthcare industry is protecting itself from increasingly numerous sophisticated attacks.
Article content
The new report found that 32% of healthcare executives say their organization suffered a breach in the past 12 months, and nearly half (46%) say they are experiencing a significantly higher volume of attacks. As artificial intelligence (AI) promises healthcare organizations unprecedented levels of efficiency, optimized processes, and enhanced automation, the report reveals that only 29% of healthcare executives say they are prepared for AI-powered threats despite 41% believing they will happen.

At the same time, the software supply chain remains a blind spot, with only a small portion of executives recognizing the associated risks. 54% say they have very low to moderate visibility into the software supply chain, and only 21% say they are investing significantly in software supply chain security.

However, cyber resilience measures are becoming more integral to business operations, with 61% of healthcare organizations now aligning their cybersecurity teams with lines of business, a sign that resilience is increasingly seen as a shared responsibility across departments. Moreover, nearly half (44%) expect to enlist managed security service providers (MSSPs) in the next two years to help them manage the increasingly complex and dynamic threat landscape, an increase from 30% that have done so over the past 12 months. Additionally, 59% of leadership roles are measured against cybersecurity KPIs, and nearly half (43%) say they allocate cybersecurity budgets at the outset of new initiatives – a critical step toward embedding security into innovation efforts.

'With the rising risk of AI-powered cyberattacks and vulnerabilities in the software supply chain, achieving cyber resilience in healthcare is more critical than ever,' said Theresa Lanowitz, Chief Evangelist of LevelBlue. 'Our research shows that healthcare organizations are no longer viewing cybersecurity as just an IT issue; it's now a business priority. Still, there is work to be done to properly prepare and protect themselves.'

Healthcare organizations are making progress in integrating cybersecurity across their operations, but there is still work to be done. When asked to what extent their organization is investing in certain measures to prepare for new and emerging types of cyber threats, healthcare executives say they are most likely to invest significantly in:

Based on these findings, LevelBlue recommends four specific steps to achieve cyber resilience, regardless of the industry: Push cyber resilience up the organization, embed cybersecurity responsibilities throughout the organization, be proactive (not reactive), and prioritize resilience in the software supply chain.

Tick treatment: N.B. pharmacist explains what to do if you've been bitten
Products used in the prevention and removal of ticks are pictured on a store shelf. Inside Ford's Family Pharmacy & Wellness Centre in Moncton, N.B., there's a shelf dedicate to tick-prevention and removal – items that Pharmacist and Owner, Peter Ford says are becoming more popular as tick bites rise across the Maritimes. 'I think we've done 12 cases so far,' said Ford. 'I think maybe last year we did two, so it's been pretty prevalent and they're even in people's gardens.' Ford says many clients remove the tick before coming into the pharmacy but it's not as simple as just brushing it off your arm or leg. 'Get a nice pair of tweezers or you can get a tick remover which kind of pinches the tick,' he said. 'You want to get the whole body out intact because that's how we evaluate whether or not it's a Lyme tick or not, or a deer tick, and how long it's been feeding by the size of the belly of the tick itself.' Ford says people need to preserve the tick in a jar, bag or vial so that it can be inspected to determine the proper treatment. 'The bullseye rash is not always present,' he said. 'Sometimes it's absent, like of the 12 that we've done I think I've only seen the bullseye rash once, so it's not always that common. Fever and flu-like symptoms are tell-tale signs of infection, said Ford. He said they monitor patients and prescribe dozycycline as necessary. The pharmacy follows up within 24 to 48 hours to make sure no other symptoms arise. 'It's a single dose treatment and that prevents the Lyme but we have to get it within three days of the bite,' said Ford. Ford says it's important for people to do a full inspection if they're near the woods, or even just outside. He says ticks are small enough to miss but people can look for a red dot – like a pimple – and any black colouration surrounding the area. James Donald of Hiking NB and Paddling NB says he tries to get out on the trail or the water at least twice a week. He said he's seen more people with the socks wrapped over their pant legs for protection. Both he and his wife have experience with ticks. 'She went through the whole shots, treatment and everything and then we were actually at a hike summit down in Nova Scotia, which they're actually a lot thicker down there in the southern part of Nova Scotia, and I had my first tick experience there.' Ford said the pants he wears now are treated with the tick repellant permethrin. 'The problem is when you're in long grass and things are touching your legs and stuff that's kind of where they hang out and then they grab on and hold on and try to climb into any nook and cranny they can find on you.' According to the New Brunswick Pharmacists' Association 'your overall risk of developing Lyme disease after a high-risk tick bite is approximately three per cent and the tick needs to be attached to your skin for more than 24 hours to transmit the bacteria.' The Association also says that clothes should be put in the dryer on high heat for at least 10 minutes or in a hot wash cycle to help kill off any ticks. It also recommends having a shower or bath to rinse away any that might not have attached yet. Ford says it's also important to check pets. He says you should check with your pharmacist if you're using preventative sprays or oils to make sure they are safe for every member of the family. Michaels completes acquisition of Joann's intellectual property and fan-favourite labels
NEW YORK — Craft labels from the now-shuttered fabrics seller Joann are making their way to a new home: Michaels. The Michaels Companies announced on Thursday that it had completed its purchase of Joann's intellectual property and private label brands — in an acquisition that arrives as the Texas-based arts and crafting chain works to expand its own fabric, sewing and yarn offerings. 'We're honored to have the opportunity to welcome JOANN customers into our creative community and are committed to delivering the selection, value, and inspiration they are looking for at Michaels,' Michaels CEO David Boone said in a statement. The deal, he added, allows the company to better 'respond to rising demand' among both new and existing customers. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The Associated Press reached out to Michaels for further information on Friday. With roots dating back to a single Ohio storefront in 1943, Joann had grown into a destination for generations of sewers, quilters, knitters and lovers of other crafts for more than 80 years. But more recently, operational challenges continued to pile up — with the retailer pointing to sluggish consumer demand, inventory shortages and rising competition. Joann announced it would be going out of business back in February, just one month after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection for the second time within a year. At the time, the company said financial services company GA Group, together with Joann's term lenders, had been selected as the winning bidder to 'acquire substantially all of Joann's assets' and conduct going-out-of-business sales at all store locations. Michaels on Thursday said that its purchase of Joann's IP and private brands included the acquisition of 'Big Twist' yarns, which had become a staple in Joann stores over the years. Those 'Big Twist' labels are now being developed as part of Michaels' portfolio — and will be available in-stores and online later this year, the company said. In the meantime, Michaels has also dedicated a landing page to welcome former Joann customers online. And as part of its overall expansion into fabrics, Michaels said on Thursday that its adding more than 600 new products from new and existing brands — including quilting supplies and fabrics, specialty threads, sewing machines and more. Michaels, founded in 1973, currently operates 1,300 stores across 49 U.S. states and Canada. Its parent company also owns Artistree, a framing merchandise manufacturer. Why Broadcom Stock Slumped Today
Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO), the semiconductor company that's profited so much from the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution of late, saw its stock slump 3% through 10 a.m. ET this morning after reporting that it beat earnings last night... just barely. Heading into the company's fiscal second quarter of 2025, which ended May 4, analysts forecast Broadcom would earn $1.57 per share in adjusted profits on sales of just under $15 billion. In fact, Broadcom earned $1.58 per share, and its sales were $15 billion. Broadcom Q1 earnings Sales grew 20% year over year in Q2, setting a new quarterly record boosted by 46% year-over-year growth in revenue from AI chips. Adjusted earnings grew twice as fast, up 43%, but generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) earnings did even better, more than doubling to $1.03 per share. (So while GAAP profits weren't nearly as good as non-GAAP, at least they're growing faster.) On the other hand, Broadcom noted that its free cash flow (FCF) in Q2 was only $6.4 billion. And while that represented 44% year-over-year growth, in line with adjusted earnings growth, it was apparently less than the $7 billion FCF that analysts had hoped Broadcom would produce. This realization seems to be outweighing the news of the earnings beat, and depressing Broadcom stock today. Is Broadcom stock a buy? Should investors be worried about this? Not necessarily. While I'm not usually thrilled to see such a large gap between GAAP earnings and non-GAAP earnings, Broadcom's generating tremendous free cash flow -- $22.7 billion over the last 12 months, or nearly twice reported net income. The stock's valuation is high; its price-to-free-cash-flow ratio is 52.5. But Broadcom is growing FCF fast enough that I think the valuation might be justified -- and Broadcom stock could still be a buy. Should you invest $1,000 in Broadcom right now?
