Sunday World5 days ago

The show which was broadcast on Monday nights at 10.35pm started in January 2023 as a replacement to the Claire Byrne Live show.
This Friday will be Joe Duffy's final time on the airwaves.
Katie Hannon's Monday night RTÉ show will not return in September, paving the way for her to possibly take over the Liveline gig.
This Friday will be Joe Duffy's final time on the airwaves, after 27 years fronting the daily radio show and 37 years working with RTÉ.
Speculation had put Hannon as one of the front-runners for the coveted gig, given that she has filled in for Duffy so much in recent times.
RTÉ confirmed to the Sunday World that her current affairs show Upfront with Katie Hannon has come to an end and will not be returning in September after three seasons on-air.
The statement added that Hannon will continue as one of the anchors of the popular Behind the Story podcast, which will launch daily later this year.
This Friday will be Joe Duffy's final time on the airwaves.
She will also present a new TV series in the lead-up to the presidential election in October.
Katie Hannon said: "I'm very proud of what we achieved on Upfront. We managed to buck the international trend and actually grew our audience on linear television and our digital footprint. It was a privilege to work with our small team of talented and hardworking colleagues led by our editor Janet Traynor.
"I also want to thank all of those who came into our studio and trusted us with their stories and contributed to the national conversation on the issues that matter to all of us. I'm disappointed that we won't be able to keep that conversation going."
A spokeswoman for RTÉ said: 'The decision to wrap production has been made due to the prioritising of people and financial resources, as the organisation incurs significant change and becomes smaller.

Vote for Joe? - Labour Party has discussed Duffy Presidential run

The Labour Party has discussed the possibility of a Joe Duffy presidential campaign, we can reveal. A source this weekend said approaches have been made to staff up a potential campaign, if Duffy were to agree to be a left-wing candidate. The source told 'The Labour Party is looking to get people at a top level to help with the campaign.' It is not clear if the party was doing this before or after making an approach to the departing Liveline host. Joe Duffy presenting his final farewell show in Studio 1 at the RTÉ Radio Centre. Pic: Andres Poveda The Labour Party did not respond to requests for comment yesterday. However, senior Fianna Fáil figures said Duffy could be the party's 'great escape' if he ran for the Áras on its ticket. Although Duffy appeared to rule out a Presidential run when pressed on the matter on Friday, political watchers noted Duffy was not unequivocal in his response. And party sources claimed Fianna Fáil – which has yet to confirm a candidate ahead of the election – would also welcome Duffy with open arms. We'll save half a million quid and by the time the next election comes around [Taoiseach and Fianna Fáil leader] Micheál Martin will be a young 72 and probably be contemplating retirement from the Oireachtas.' Duffy was somewhat coy when asked about a potential presidential run on Friday. He told RTÉ he had not been approached but added: 'I was president of Trinity Students' Union; I still have the posters. But my face has changed a lot. Maybe my intellect isn't as strong as it used to be.'

Dublin Pride in pictures as tens of thousands attend parade

Over 100,000 attended Saturday's Dublin Pride parade along the streets of the capital. This year's grand marshall was ShoutOut's executive director Ruadhan O'Criordain while the Pride village main stage was hosted by Phil T Gorgeous and Paul Ryder. RTÉ reports organisers saying 12,500 people marched in the annual parade, while Dublin City Council said around 100,000 people were set to attend. The parade began at 12:30pm and lasted about two hours. Beginning at O'Connell Street, the rows of LGBTQ+ supporters marched to Eden Quay, Custom House Quay, Talbot Memorial Bridge, City Quay, Lombard Street, Westland Row, and finished up at the pride festival at Merrion Street Lower. Ryan Tubridy's fiancée shows off engagement ring at Joe Duffy's retirement party

The pair turned up to Joe's party in Dublin city centre pub The Duke on Friday night. A beaming Ryan called over photographers to where the couple were and said with a smile: 'I presume you want a picture of the ring?!'. Dr Kambamettu then proudly showed off the engagement ring, with the couple being congratulated by well-wishers. The former Liveline host, who left his show on Friday after nearly 27 years, was congratulated at the bash in The Duke by a collection of well-known faces and friends. Among those at the party were Miriam O'Callaghan, Aonghus McAnally, Brush Shields, Syl Fox, John McColgan, Mike Murphy, Marty Morrisey, Alan Hughes and Karl Broderick, Brenda Donohue, Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, Gay Byrne's daughter Suzy and her daughter Sive, and Charlie Bird's widow Claire Mould. Joe was earlier in the day joined on his final show by his wife June and their triplets, who are now aged 30. Former RTÉ Radio and Late Late Show presenter Tubridy recently confirmed his good news on his Virgin Radio show after 'miscommunication' between him and a Co Galway jeweller. O'Dalaigh Jewellers in Clifden said Tubridy had bought the ring for a 'very special lady' and the post, which was subsequently deleted, was accompanied by a photo of the jeweller Jonty Daly and the couple posing together outside the store. Tubridy proposed to Clare by the Atlantic shore, and the couple later celebrated in local hotels. Revealing the news on his radio show at the time, Tubridy told listeners: 'I have a little bit of news that I've been keeping to myself, to ourselves.' "I'm very, very, very happy to confirm I did get engaged to my partner Clare in the west of Ireland.' Tubridy thanked a number of listeners for sending in their well-wishes following the announcement and said 'it's a very beautiful feeling' and 'a very exciting time to be alive'. "We were surrounded by gorgeous people who we didn't know, strangers in the hotel, and people who were working around the place and got a beautiful ring organised, and the weather was gorgeous,' he said of the couple's time last week. "And it's just the accumulation of a lot of lovely things happening, and I just decided now is the time. More to follow in terms of details and all the rest of it. And by the more to follow, I mean I'll tell my family first. "It's a very exciting time to be alive. I'm a very, very lucky man, and I think it's one of those beautiful moments where the world feels lighter.'
