Tyla thrills fans at Open'er Festival and hints at new music era

Express Tribune04-07-2025
Tyla has confirmed that new music is on the way and possibly sooner than fans expected.
During her vibrant set on the Orange Main Stage at Poland's Open'er Festival, the 23-year-old South African star took a moment between songs to hint at what's next.
'You all need to catch up because there's some new music coming very soon,' she said, introducing Breathe Me, which she described as her favourite track from her debut album Tyla, released last year.
She also shared a heartfelt message ahead of Priorities, telling the crowd, 'This is basically just about prioritising yourself… and it's something that I've been doing for a while now. I'm reminding my Tigers to do that every day, no matter what.'
Despite technical difficulties that affected her stage setup, including being unable to descend from a platform and having to run backstage to re-join her dancers, Tyla kept the energy high and the audience engaged. 'I know I'm supposed to be professional,' she joked, 'but the number of technical difficulties I'm having… we're still having fun.'
Her performance marked a long-awaited return after she was forced to cancel her 2024 appearance at the festival due to injury. Grateful for the moment, she told the crowd, 'I was very low today - my energy, my vibes. But I feel really good being here in Poland.'
Tyla's dynamic set, which included both male and female dancers, was met with a warm reception from fans, who she lovingly calls her 'Tigers'. Sharing the line-up with acts like J. Balvin, Lola Young, and headliners Nine Inch Nails, Tyla stood out as a rising global force ready to take her music to the next level.

Foo Fighters bring in Ilan Rubin as drummer

The Foo Fighters have officially enlisted Ilan Rubin as their new drummer, announcing the change this week after Josh Freese exited earlier in May with little explanation. The band confirmed the swap, which saw Freese return to Nine Inch Nails to join their upcoming Peel It Back tour. The post from NIN featured a celebratory image captioned: 'Let's fucking go.' Ilan Rubin, 37, has performed with NIN as their touring drummer since 2009 and became the youngest member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 with the band. He's also collaborated with Paramore, Angels & Airwaves, and Danny Elfman. Freese's departure followed a two‑year tenure with Foo Fighters, as the drummer who replaced the late Taylor Hawkins in 2023, and was described by the band as a shift in musical direction. Freese later expressed that he was surprised by the decision but held no ill will. It remains unclear whether Rubin's role is permanent or exclusively for the upcoming Asia 2025 tour, which starts in Jakarta on October 2, with appearances in Singapore, Tokyo, Osaka, and Mexico City. With the swap finalized, the Foo Fighters continue to mark their 30th anniversary, having recently released a new track, Today's Song. The song included a note of gratitude to Freese and previous drummers, highlighting the band's evolving legacy.

‘Tron: Ares' trailer explodes with AI takeover, Jeff Bridges returns

Disney has ignited fresh excitement among sci-fi fans with the official trailer drop for Tron: Ares, the long-awaited third installment in the iconic Tron franchise. The trailer not only confirms the return of Jeff Bridges but also unveils a dramatic new storyline centred around the collision of artificial intelligence and reality. Unveiled globally on July 18, the trailer opens with a chilling new Nine Inch Nails track titled 'As Alive As You Need Me To Be,' setting the tone for the film's techno-thriller aesthetic. Jeff Bridges reprises his role from the original Tron (1982) and Tron: Legacy (2010), while Jared Leto steps in as the lead, playing Ares, a powerful Program sent from the digital world into the real world. As AI takes human form for the first time, the lines between virtual and physical realms begin to blur dangerously. Directed by Joachim Rønning, the film features a stellar cast including Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan, Arturo Castro, and Gillian Anderson. Production credits include Jared Leto himself, alongside Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, and Steven Lisberger. Tron: Ares is slated for theatrical release in India on October 10, 2025, and will be dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and English, a strategic move to reach a broader audience across the subcontinent. With its fusion of legacy nostalgia and timely themes around AI, the trailer has already sparked a global frenzy. Fans are now eagerly awaiting character reveals and exclusive behind-the-scenes content in the lead-up to release. With Jeff Bridges back and reality under siege, Tron: Ares is shaping up to be Disney's most provocative sci-fi offering yet.

Hosted by rap legend Bun B, Jackboys 2 will feature 17 tracks, promising a collection of 'trunk rattling classics,' according to the promotional material shared by Scott. The album was first teased by Scott in March during a performance in Miami, and a subsequent trailer directed by Harmony Korine was posted on Instagram the following month. Featured artists on the album include Tyla, Waka Flocka Flame, 21 Savage, GloRilla, SoFaygo, SahBabii, Vybz Kartel, and Kodak Black. In the lead-up to the release, Scott also dropped the music video for '2000 Excursion,' featuring uncredited vocals from Sheck Wes and Don Toliver. Fans can now purchase different formats of the album, including vinyl and digital downloads, via Scott's webstore. Jackboys 2 marks Scott's first full album since the release of Utopia in July 2023, which went on to become one of the best-selling albums of the year and achieved double-platinum status. The upcoming project follows the success of Jackboys, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2019. The debut album featured collaborations with major artists like Rosalia, Lil Baby, and Pop Smoke. Jackboys 2 will be available at midnight this Sunday, adding to Scott's growing catalog of influential work.
