
1 found dead after house fire in Ajax late Friday night
Durham police say they responded to a home in the area of Taunton Road East and Salem Road North at 11:10 p.m. Friday night. They were investigating reports of a man who was armed and threatening members of his family.
Upon arrival, Durham police reported an active fire in the home. Police and Ajax Fire removed "several" people from the home and evacuated neighbouring residences.
One person was found dead in the residence. It's not immediately clear if that was the armed man.
There are no outstanding suspects.
The Ontario Fire Marshal is conducting the investigation.

The Winnipeg Police Service began its investigation earlier in July after its Internet Child Exploitation Unit was alerted to the situation. On July 9, officers took a suspect into custody in the area of Hargrave Street and Donald Street. During the arrest, police seized a cellphone and found child sexual abuse materials. Officers also searched a downtown home and seized additional electronic devices. A suspect is facing charges of possession of child pornography, access any child pornography and voyeurism. He was released from custody with conditions prohibiting access to the internet and contact with anyone under the age of 18. Police continue to investigate and ask anyone wishing to speak to officers to call 204-986-6172. Kitchener man charged following crash into hydro pole

First responders were called to the area of Ottawa Street North and Montcalm Drive around 4 p.m. Waterloo Regional Police said a Toyota sedan had crashed into the pole and broke it. No one was hurt. The area was closed as hydro crews removed the affected pole. A 51-year-old man was charged. Police did not specify what he was charged with.

Waterloo woman dead following crash in Woolwich Township
A 73-year-old woman is dead following a two-vehicle crash in Woolwich Township on Monday. A 73-year-old woman is dead following a two-vehicle crash in Woolwich Township on Monday. First responders were called to the area of Sawmill Road East and Arthur Street South around 4:45 p.m. Waterloo Region Police said the crash happened between a sedan and an SUV. A white vehicle was seen significantly damaged off the side of the road around 7 p.m. The woman was pronounced dead on scene, while a 19-year-old man from Woolwich Township was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The area was closed for investigation. Police have asked anyone who saw or has video of the crash to call them at 519-570-9777, extension 8856.
