Bose's latest Ultra earbuds have some AI-powered tricks for navigating your noisy world

The earbuds are priced at $299 and will be available in Black, White Smoke, and Deep Plum colorways.
Bose expanded its premium headphone and earbud lineup with the launch of new Ultra models back in 2023. Its original QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds are still among the best wireless earbuds on the market, but the company has now announced an upgraded model that brings some noteworthy improvements to the table.
The new Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) may not look much different, but they promise better adaptive noise cancelation and voice pickup than the older model. The earbuds utilize an updated AI algorithm layered on top of Bose's proprietary CustomTune sound calibration technology to improve the ActiveSense experience in Aware Mode, offer a smoother transition between noise cancelation levels, and prevent audio content from being drowned out by environmental noises.
Bose has also equipped the second-gen earbuds with a new AI-powered noise suppression system to improve voice pickup with the eight built-in microphones. In addition, the earbuds leverage Bose's audio augmentation technology to further reduce background noise.
Unlike the previous model, the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) support wireless charging out of the box. However, Bose hasn't upgraded the battery. The earbuds are still rated for up to 6 hours of playback on a single charge without ANC and 4 hours with ANC enabled. The charging case offers up to three additional charges, with Bose claiming it provides up to 2 hours of playback with a 20-minute charge.
The Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) will be available later this summer for $299 in three colorways: black, White Smoke, and a limited-edition Deep Plum.
Along with the flagship earbuds, Bose has announced two Bluetooth speakers: the SoundLink Plus Portable speaker and the SoundLink Micro Bluetooth Speaker (2nd Gen). The SoundLink Plus is priced at $269 and will be available in Black, Blue Dusk, and Citrus Yellow colorways starting June 26. The SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) will be available in Black and Blue Dusk for $129 later this summer.

Why Paradigm built a spreadsheet with an AI agent in every cell
Anna Monaco has been building AI agents since before the term 'AI agents' was even a thing. After building numerous chatbots, she started looking for other types of interfaces that made sense for AI agents and landed on spreadsheets. 'I had this personal pattern, and I noticed that a lot of other people had this pattern, of putting very important CRM data in spreadsheets just because it was the most flexible thing,' Monaco told TechCrunch. 'But it was actually a pain to maintain. There's so much manual work involved. So [I] just went down this rabbit hole of building a product for myself and wanted to reimagine what a spreadsheet could look like with the full power of LLMs.' The result was Paradigm, an AI-powered spreadsheet equipped with more than 5,000 AI agents. Users can assign different prompts to individual columns and cells, and individual AI agents will crawl the internet to find and fill out the needed information. Paradigm works with AI models from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google's Gemini, Monaco said, and supports model switching. 'We want to support every single model because we want our users to be able to have the highest reasoning outputs when they need it, but also the cheapest outputs,' Monaco said. 'It's just a constant cycle of evaluating different models, working closely with model providers to make sure our limits are high enough, and then giving some of that power to our users.' The company launched a small closed beta preview in late 2024 and has been iterating on the product using customer feedback. Paradigm attracts users ranging from consultants to sales professionals and finance folks and operates on a subscription model with tiers based on usage. Paradigm counts the consulting firm EY, AI chip startup Etched and the AI coding company Cognition as early customers. Paradigm is now releasing its product to the public and announcing that it raised a $5 million seed round led by General Catalyst. The company has raised $7 million to date. Monaco said the funding will go toward executing on the company's 'extremely aggressive product roadmap.' 'I think that was a cool part of it. We found a lot of value from it internally and our investors, not even just our investors — other investors that we talked to — are still using it.' Paradigm isn't the only company looking to give spreadsheets an AI upgrade. Quadratic, which has raised more than $6 million in venture funding, is a three-year-old startup with a similar goal. Legacy companies like Google and Microsoft are also adding AI tools to their spreadsheet applications. Monaco said that she doesn't really consider the competition because Paradigm doesn't think of itself as an AI-powered spreadsheet. She said she thinks of it as a new AI-powered workflow that happens to be in the familiar form of a spreadsheet but won't necessarily stay that way forever. 'What I'm seeing in the most popular AI products now is this fine balance between present and future,' Monaco said. 'How do you build something that is really powerful and generates a lot of value now but also sets you up really well for the future? That's the question that I asked myself a year ago when I was starting the company.'

This $320 Kit Brings the BlackBerry Classic Back From the Dead
People are bored of their phones. So bored of their big, boring glass and metal slabs that they can't help but dump all over phones like Nothing's Phone 3 that don't look like boring-ass bricks. But apparently people are so bored of their phones that somebody went and made a whole-ass kit that replaces the guts of the long-dead BlackBerry Q20, or 'Classic,' with new components and effectively modernizes it with Android. Beloved for its QWERTY keyboard and BlackBerry OS (who remembers BBM?), the BlackBerry Classic launched in 2014 and lived a short two years before it was discontinued in 2016. Falling fast behind iPhone and Android, BlackBerry, fresh off its rebranding from RIM in 2013, replaced its aging mobile OS with BlackBerry 10, which could later run Android apps. Alas, even with Android apps, BlackBerry 10 couldn't catch up to Apple and Google's mobile ecosystems. Enthusiasts refuse to give up on the BlackBerry Classic, though. A company called Zinwa Technologies is selling a $320 kit called the 'Q25 Pro set' that replaces the Classic's core components—the CPU, RAM, storage, cameras, battery, and even the charging port—with a feature set that is more up to date. You need to bring your own Q20 donor for the mod, but if you've got one that you're willing to prep for surgery, the upgrade kit gives you a MediaTek G99 chipset, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, NFC, and LTE. It's Android 13 from 2022. Responding to an X reply calling out the old version of Android, Migicovsky said, 'What does it matter? Is there a noticeable difference between 13/14/whatever we're on now?' Maybe not for basic apps and phone use like calls, messaging, and web browsing, but an old version of Android may not have the latest security updates, which is pretty important in 2025. Still, it's great to see enthusiast startups go so hard on such a niche phone. There's been a wave of nostalgia for retro tech, particularly phones with physical QWERTY keyboards. Recently, Unihertz announced the Titan 2, a BlackBerry Passport-esque phone with a QWERTY keyboard (and a funky second screen on the backside). Tech reviewer Michael Fisher, aka MrMobile, is still chugging along with Clicks, the company pumping out QWERTY case accessories for the iPhone. Clicks recently released a version of its keyboard case for the 2025 Motorola Razr Plus and Ultra foldables. Anybody got the phone numbers for former BlackBerry co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie? I'm dying to know their thoughts on the Q25 Pro kit.
