Chicago White Sox promoting catcher Kyle Teel — their No. 2-ranked prospect — to the majors Friday

The Chicago White Sox plan to call up catching prospect Kyle Teel to the major-league club Friday, a source confirmed to the Tribune. Teel is the No. 2 prospect in the Sox system and No. 26 in all of baseball, according to rankings. He is hitting .295 with eight home runs and 30 RBIs in 50 games for Triple-A Charlotte. Advertisement Teel on Monday was named White Sox minor-league player of the month. He had a .333/.444/.613 slash line with six doubles, five home runs, 14 RBIs, 15 walks, 16 runs and a 1.057 OPS in 22 games in the month. 'I had a really good month at the plate,' Teel said during a videoconference call Monday. 'My approach was good. Started hitting the ball pull-side in the air, which is always good to see. That's where my power output came from. 'It was just working every day with the coaches in the cage and just being around a great group of guys. So we're just going to continue that and keep going.' The left-handed hitter has reached base safely in 38 of his last 39 games since April 10, slashing .326/.424/.525 with eight doubles, six home runs, 21 RBIs and 29 runs during the stretch. Advertisement Chris Cotillo of initially reported the move. The White Sox acquired Teel as part of the offseason trade that sent starter Garrett Crochet to the Boston Red Sox. Teel will be the second player from that deal to join the big-league club, following infielder Chase Meidroth.
